Q: How do I get a haircut like Ms. Hathaway? I know that starts have different looks at different times, so I am not sure exactly what to tell a stylist? I don't have much experience with beauty places so I guess I am also afraid they will mess up my head. Any advice? :)
Your best bet is to bring pictures of hairstyles you like. Even if you just like part of a haircut you see, a good stylist will be able to see common elements and help you figure out a cut that looks good on you. It's never a good idea to get someone else's haircut exactly, because you're not the same person!

Make sure to specify what your restrictions are... and be honest! If you don't want to use more than one product in the morning, tell them. Or if you don't want to have to come back for frequent cuts (pixie cuts are pretty bad for this) your hairdresser can make modifications to accommodate. You won't be happy if your hair doesn't fit your lifestyle.

Q: A represents a counting number. What does A equal if:

A+A=1
A+A=3

If you won't give me the actual answer at least tell me how to solve it. I'm in 5th grade, and I'm in a high math group. Me, nor my parents and my friend who's also stumped on this problem can't solve it.
This looks like a typo to me.

As far as I understand, a counting number is just a positive, non-fractional integer. The problem is that there's no whole positive number that, when added to itself, equals an odd positive number.

A+A = 2A, right? There's no way you can multiply a whole number by 2 and get an odd number. Looks like someone either made a mistake or intentionally wrote an impossible problem to get you thinking.

Q: I've smoked [weed] a couple of times now and so far I've only smoked by myself once. The one time I had fun and laughed and watched funny videos, had food and drinks etc. But when I do smoke with friends or other people, I tend to not enjoy it or feel like I'm about to green out (to feel as though you are going to vomit) I feel like I do like being high like everyone else, but I'm always cold so I get tremor (to continually twitch in various places randomly) or because I'm surrounded by people I'm not very comfortable with since people tend to smoke me out (for people to allow you to smoke their weed as long as it is with them) So do you think I'm just surrounded by bad things or do I just not like being high?
My best guess is that the reason you don't like smoking with others is the same reason I don't like drinking with people I don't know well. I don't like not being in control, and I can't relax if I don't completely trust the people around me.

Also, your friends may have a different source for their weed. It can be laced with different chemicals or drugs, or different strains can have a different effect.

Really, it sounds to me like you're not having a good time with it. Add that to the fact that it's quite possibly illegal, depending on where you live, and it is just a good idea for you to stop. You're not getting anything from it other than putting your body and mind at risk.

Q: Can anyone tell me if fullmoneysystem.com is a scam or a real way to make money online? I watched the video and it all looks really good but seems to good to be true, you know what I mean? I don't have a lot of money so I don't want to risk this if it looks like a fraud to any of you. I am not very smart about these things, so can you help me?
Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any information on it other than stuff that the company itself had put out there, but I can tell you this: if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Keep in mind that someone is making money from this system. Chances are, that someone isn't the guy at the bottom of the totem pole. If you have a low risk tolerance, this isn't the opportunity for you. You're better off putting your money into a stable, legitimate investment.

Q: I just found out that my Mirena IUD has been recalled! I am terrified and I don't know what to do at all. Do I need a lawyer to sue my doctor? Do I go to the same doctor to take it out, or not trust her since she is the one who put the defective IUD in me in the first place? What would you do if you were me?
From what I can tell, the Mirena has been falling out of use due to some people suffering adverse effects, but has not actually been recalled yet.

You have no reason to sue your doctor. She's done nothing wrong, and you haven't had any problems. If you did suffer from severe side effects, you would sue the manufacturer of Mirena, not your doctor. They are under fire right now because despite many women suffering from severe side effects, they are not issuing a recall.

Your doctor has to trust the company that the device it's putting out is safe to use, just like she would have to trust that a drug she prescribes is safe and effective. If it isn't, that's the company's fault, not hers. There's no reason not to trust her. If you are concerned, you can absolutely go back and tell her you're not comfortable with having the Mirena any more and that you want to explore other options.

Q: What are the best places you have found to shop for clothes online? I don't really know which sites to trust. I mean, do you only buy from places that you have near you so you can go in if your order is messed up, or can you buy from stores that aren't in your area and still do ok?
You don't really mention your age, size or clothing style, so it's really tough to make specific recommendations!

When shopping online, I usually try to stick to stores that are located within my country. Otherwise, duty fees can really add up, and you can be charged sales tax upon delivery.

If I do venture out of country, and in general, I stick to stores that have a good reputation, like Land's End or Asos. You want to make sure that there's a good returns policy in case things don't fit or aren't flattering, too.

The key is to make sure to follow the size charts given by the site. Take your measurements, because you can't go by just the size number and there's no trying different sizes on.

It can be handy ordering from stores nearby so that if something doesn't fit you can go in to the store to return it. If you need to return elsewhere, there's often a fee.

Q: i sent you two question earlier today but you have not yet recieved them anyway if you do get this question what will your answer be becuase i looked sevrel times in your advice colum but did not find them did you quit the site or you still using it .
From what I can see, you sent your questions at 9:00 at night, and this question at about 10:30 ( in my time zone). You have to keep in mind that I do this on a voluntary basis, and that I have my own life to live with its own commitments. Sometimes that means it will take me 24 hours or more to get to a question. I try to keep it to less than 24, but I can't guarantee that I will always be online and have the time to answer immediately.

I have answered one, but have already informed you in a previous answer that I will not be touching the other topic because it is already being dealt with by DangerNerd.

Q: last year i asked a question called How to Contact the Icon Music Series and i have waited for answers but still dont have any so if you are Ninjaneer can you please answer this question and then answer the question i was talking about you ll find it its on this site but was left unanswered thank you .
Unfortunately, I can't find the question you're talking about.

Having done a quick search on Google, I'm still not really sure what you're looking for. As far as I can tell, the Icon Music Series is a set of discs of famous artists, not the artists themselves.

Q: I started a new medication and I am just not feeling it anymore. :( Is there any way to get that drive, that desire back without going off the medicine that is probably keeping me alive?
This is a matter to discuss with your doctor.

Loss of libido, while not life-threatening, is one of the worst side effects I've experienced. There are different ways of tackling it that don't require you dropping medication altogether.

When you talk to your doctor, let them know that it's an issue. Sometimes you may be able to switch to a different medication, or there can be supplementary medications you can take. For example, I take a psychiatric medication that causes low libido. Because of that, I've been put on an antidepressant that counteracts that symptom... it works like a charm! I can't recommend it, though, because I don't know what your situation is or whether it would interact with your current medication. Your doctor will know how to deal with the situation and can help you work towards a solution.

Q: What meds seem to be most effective for those with bipolar?
There's no single answer, even when it comes to what meds are most effective for one person with bipolar disorder.

In trying to get on a good medication routine, I've had to try 6 or 7 meds in different combinations. Some worked temporarily, or some only covered one symptom. Some gave me terrible side effects that I couldn't live with. I've had continuous adjustments to dosages. It hasn't been easy, but my doctors have led me through the process.

Bipolar disorder isn't like a headache: you can't choose a medication based on a general consensus. Your doctor will select medications for you to try based on your body chemistry and what your particular needs are. For example, I'm a student so there's one that's effective that I haven't been prescribed because it causes difficulties with reading comprehension. Medication is on a case-by-case basis. If you're put on a medication that isn't working for you, then let your doctor know that a change is in order.

Q: I just got engaged and I am scared about the whole church wedding thing! Is there any way to have a wedding without religious overtones, or is that the only way you can get married?
I'm a married atheist, so I feel that I can answer your question.

To get married, you need an officiant. Depending on the laws where you live, that can be pretty flexible or more difficult. In some areas, you could even have a friend get certified. It is entirely possible to hire a non-religious officiant, but the most common by far are religious leaders.

We had a priest perform our wedding ceremony, but at our request there was no religion. We had several readings and that was it. The key, if you do end up going with a religious officiant, is to find one that doesn't have issues with being flexible on the level of religion in the ceremony. Some will let you write the whole darn ceremony, like ours did.

Q: i clicked on the link you posted and that was the wrong question that question was called how to get a show on Disney Channel canceled not how to get a program taken off netflix i was just wondering but if you dont have any links to the question i was talking thats okay i was only curious to know if it was on here or rejected .
I wasn't sure, since the question, TV show name and wording were similar. Otherwise, my quick search didn't turn anything up.

Q: Hi! So I'm 18 & my boyfriend is 19, we've been dating for about 9 months now & we've started talking about having sex! I'm a little nervous because we are both virgins, but I really want to expierience this with him. He has a genetic disease called cystic fibrosis & because of this he is infertile. Even though I know this, I'm still scared about getting pregnant. We talked about it & he suggested that he just pulls out before...you know. But I'm still unsure... Any advice?
Most men with CF are infertile, but not all of them.

The bottom line is, if you're worried about pregnancy you won't enjoy yourself. It's not worth the hassle and the inevitable pregnancy scare when using birth control in some form could save you from all of that.

Q: Its great that in the face of epic injustice and daily misery which you outlined in your postings, you find that life is worth living, or, that it is your duty to live (??). Its great that you have that perspective and choose life.
Its likely a good thing that you encourage you readers to 'live' at any cost, after all you wouldn't want to seriously engage with the subject at a deep level, or feel liable for someone's passing, very wise.
However, i think you strip others of the depth and width of their character, life experience, intellectual capacity, spiritual or cultural references, personhood (just for starters) when you suggest they should live, as you choose to do, in abjectness, if you're to be believed. It may be hard to believe but some folk have had an even more eventful and destructive life experiences than yourself, others feel simply that they have lived and learnt enough etc etc... or that they are not quite where they should be.
In addition if one is to be a Material-rationalist (i roughly mean 'this is it, so make the most of it'), but also insist on the duty to live (an expensive and often zero sum game for oneself and wider society), I see this position as incongruent and complex to maintain (but very interesting and engaging, hence me tapping out a few words).

Anyhow, don't blow a gasket, its just a few words which you're welcome to ignore.

There's one big thing that you miss when it comes to our advice; we don't have a full picture of a person's life, experiences, culture or character. We have only what they tell us, and that is all we can work with.

People who come to us with questions about suicide are very, very rarely thinking rationally. They are often quite young. Sometimes it's because of a difficult life situation. Other times it's because of mental illness (those are the questions I tend to answer most because of my particular life experience). Our goal is to lift the fog that conceals the light after the darkness using our own life experiences as an example.

Many years ago, I posted an anonymous question to this website. It was a simple question on how to commit suicide painlessly, the same sort of question we get here on a regular basis. I gave no background, and I got several generic answers. Do you know what's funny about those generic answers? They were enough to tell me that someone, somewhere cares enough about me to take time to try to save me at a time when I felt the opposite was true.

By assuming that everyone has the same needs that you do and discounting our advice, you are depriving them of their individuality. What works for you will not necessarily work for them. You may need indepth discourse, but maybe they just need someone to tell them it gets better, or someone to tell them that it's possible to live a happy life with mental illness.

Q: i have to have my wisdom teeth removed and i am scared silly! can you tell me roughly what this will cost and if you have had any major dental work done, would you give me any tips you have for surviving this? thanks!
You will likely be scheduled for a consultation before your removal to discuss the options and the pricing for each.

I had two of mine removed within the last 6 months, one at a time. I went under IV sedation where you're not fully unconscious, but you really don't remember anything from the procedure. They gave me large amounts of benzodiazepines and I don't remember anything up until they were stitching me up. For the removal of one tooth, the nurse's fee, sedation and one cavity being filled it cost $780 each time. That was the most expensive option; I could also have had either local anesthetic or laughing gas, but I'm a wimp so I had them knock me out as best they could. It was a good option for me because you don't have to go through the recovery process from a general anesthetic. Since you're never unconscious, you never have to regain consciousness. I walked out feeling great.

Survival tips:

Make sure you have lots of soft food like soup around. I was put on T3s and antibiotics for both extractions, and they made me queasy unless I had something in my stomach at all times.

On the note of food, you won't be able to eat anything really hot or really cold for a while... I had one pulled last month and that region is still sensitive to cold. Also really think about whether something is a) crunchy b) pointy or c) has tiny lumps that might get caught in your socket (like ground beef). I made the mistake of eating a tortilla chip once. Not good.

Do yourself a favour and get hold of a couple of soft ice packs. For at least the first day, you'll be icing on and off pretty constantly. I found that it was hard to get my single ice pack to refreeze fast enough. The hard ones are uncomfortable to hold in place and don't mold well to your face, so I suggest the cold ones.

Tea bags are your friend! Not only because you're going to be stuck drinking warm stuff for a while, but because you'll need something to stop the bleeding the first day. It took me a couple hours the first time, and about an hour the second time. They'll give you gauze to clamp your jaw down on, but it feels kind of gross in your mouth. I was told I could substitute a damp teabag instead. I strongly recommend peppermint tea. The first time I used black tea and the taste was less than pleasant. The tea bag trick really worked, and the mint flavour was pretty nice.

Plan to relax for at least a day or two after. It's a great time to sit and play a mindless (but not too exciting!) video game or read a trashy novel. You don't want to do anything too strenuous either physically or mentally. It's pretty exhausting to go through.

Do exactly what the dentist tells you to. If they tell you to swish with warm salt water, do it. Whatever you do, don't drink with a straw. There's a reason for their instructions! It will help you heal faster and more comfortably.

Most importantly, remember that you'll be fine! Millions of people go through this and survive. The pain you'd experience leaving them in place far outweighs the pain you will experience for a week now.

Q: I ordered an iPad case off of etsy ten days ago. The receipt told me it was expected to ship on the 21st. It is now the 25th and it still says not shipped. I checked today, it still said not shipped but underneath it told me I could write a review for the product on the 26th (tomorrow) so does she expect me to have it tomorrow? Do you think she just didn't change the status of the package? Regardless, I'm getting impatient and angry so I messaged her and told how I'm disappointed that it didn't come yet because every review she got said that she ships her packages in great time. She didn't reply and that was a good 4/5/6 hours ago. She already took the money out of my account, too.

What do I do if I don't get it and she doesn't answer my messages? I'm getting to aggravated now. Help!
The great thing about working through a reputable third party is that you have recourse if anything goes wrong.

This article from Etsy's website walks you through the complaint process from start to finish.

Q: i read the answer to why do people constantly focus on sex and you Ninjaneer said that there was nothing wrong with masturbation actually there is and another thing did you know when people focus on sex they watch porn and dont you say that theres nothing wrong with porn there is something wrong with porn people who like porn are perverts supporting is not the right thing to do and porn sites are dangerous not safe for kids or adults and plus pornography is an awful addiction so is drugs pot and alcohol and why would you say there is nothing wrong with masturbation masturbation is disturbing and pornography is not a good addiction to have it will lead to nothing but trouble um anyway just so you know this not an attack question its a question to tell you that masturbation is a sick thing becuase you could have had worse answers like pornography is a great addiction but its not pornography can really harm you it can also harm your computer if go to porn websites if you answer this question you will say there is nothing wrong with porn seriously porn can damage your computer
Keep in mind that I can only offer my opinion when responding to questions.

Personally, I feel that masturbation is part of a healthy sex life. It allows people to figure out what they like, and it's 100% safe; no pregnancy, no STIs. I am aware that some people have religious or cultural reasons for being against masturbation, but I do not believe that it is harmful and will always fully endorse it.

As for pornography, people can become addicted to it. It allows for people to develop their own ideas about sex based entirely on fiction. Some people use it as a substitute for real intimacy. Then it's absolutely harmful. However, when used properly it can be part of a healthy sex life, whether single or in a couple. It's just like alcohol in this way. A little can be delicious and you can have a great time. Too much can make you sick. When it's used over prolonged periods of time to escape some facet of life, it becomes an addiction. I won't comment on illegal drugs because, well, they're not legal.

Yes, going to the disreputable parts of the internet can give your computer a nasty virus. There are other ways of obtaining pornography, and there are also reputable places online to get it.

Remember, your opinions are your own. You can feel however you feel about a topic, but people will hold their own opinions and you have to respect that.

Q: i asked severel different questions on a various of things and some of them came to the open forum and some as private questions and when i asked a few others i could not find them in anybodys advice colum or anywhere on the this site so im asking this to Ninjaneer if you get this as a private question can you tell me why this is whic i hope this does make in your advice colum
If you can't find a question, it may have been deleted. There are several reasons a question may be deleted; if it has a low rating, if it is offensive, if it uses excessive chatspeak or if it's been asked too many times already.

Otherwise, I find it can just be difficult to find them after a certain time period. If you're missing an answer, ask again and we'll do the best we can.

Q: it makes no sense to me that most people like to think about sex all the time as in masterbating boobs nudity and ect that is just plain sick and ps im not one of those people that do think about that crap hollywood even making cartoons that show that kind of stuff why is it so popular now .
Sex has always been a popular topic for us humans. In the ruins of Pompeii they've even found vulgar graffiti and mosaics!

There's nothing wrong with sex, masturbation, or the human form. It's a perfectly natural part of life, and one that you'll eventually come to terms with in some form or another. It's something all mankind has in common.

My Personal Forum

My name is Amanda and I'm 26 years old. I'm currently studying electrical engineering. Armed with a fairly odd sense of humour and a sunny outlook on life, I'll take on just about anything. I'm also cussedly stubborn, which has its ups and downs. Things get tough sometimes, and I've never been one to run from it.

In my last 8 years with Advicenators, I've gone from honours student to failing out of university (and getting back on top again!), from single to married, from tenant to homeowner.

Until lately, I have been struggling with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and OCD, which had basically ruined my life and taken just about everything from me. I'm thankful every day for every experience I've had because of this ordeal, because it's helped to make me who I am today. Things like that really make you appreciate what you do have. Now that I'm back in work and school and starting to become myself again, I couldn't be happier. I credit Advicenators with saving my life back when I was a teenager, which is a big part of why I'm still here.

I won't necessarily give you the answers you want to hear, but I'll always be honest and do my best to help.
