Unsure about using protection

Question Posted Thursday February 27 2014, 9:36 am

Hi! So I'm 18 & my boyfriend is 19, we've been dating for about 9 months now & we've started talking about having sex! I'm a little nervous because we are both virgins, but I really want to expierience this with him. He has a genetic disease called cystic fibrosis & because of this he is infertile. Even though I know this, I'm still scared about getting pregnant. We talked about it & he suggested that he just pulls out before...you know. But I'm still unsure... Any advice?

Nothing's every wrong with waiting.I know the two of you are pretty much mature individuals with a strong bond/ relationship.

At the same time, if you feel the two of you are ready to experiment(REALLY SURE--),Then Please use protection.

I hope my advice was useful, give me a rating!

Condoms do not only protect against pregnancy but STIs (sexually transmitted infections) which even innocent couples can get from having sex with each other.
Also due to your age I would be cautious about anyone claiming that they are 100% infertile no matter what diseases they have. You do not want to get pregnant after your first time so always take precautions and maybe go to a family planning clinic to discuss your options together as a couple.

I suggest you definitely use a condom unless you are positive he is not having sex with anyone else not only for pregnancy reasons but also std risks. If you choose not to use a condom then you should use another form of birth control if for no other reason peace of mind for yourself. You wont be able to fully relax and enjoy the experience with worry and stress the whole time. Please dont rely on the word of anyone when it comes to your own safety and wellbeing. You must protect yourself because know one else has to walk in your shoes. Remember you are important and your life matters. Dont jump into anything you are unsure of. Trust me, as a mother of 3 young children sex is not all it's cracked up to be. There is so much more enjoyment that can be shared with your boyfriend. You guys can plan trips and travel, you two have a wonderful life ahead and sex is just one special activity that will always be there. So, listen to your head and love with your heart and be smart about it. Children are a lifetime commitment that you can enjoy later after you experience life.

Use condoms. Or visit a doctor or clinic to talk about other contraceptive measures.

As Ninja said - not every man with cystic fibrosis is infertile. The pull-out method is not reliable, at all, especially not when the guy who is trying to use it is inexperienced.

You wont have fun if you have fear of pregnancy, and even if that fear is absurdly small, unless you boyfriend has had a doctor confirm for him that he is personally infertile, your fears are completely legitimate.

Most men with CF are infertile, but not all of them.

The bottom line is, if you're worried about pregnancy you won't enjoy yourself. It's not worth the hassle and the inevitable pregnancy scare when using birth control in some form could save you from all of that.
