Increase libido in women

Question Posted Saturday March 1 2014, 2:45 am

I started a new medication and I am just not feeling it anymore. :( Is there any way to get that drive, that desire back without going off the medicine that is probably keeping me alive?

The long and short of this problem is that certain lifesaving drugs have this type of side effect. My wife had early detected breast cancer she has for the last five years taken a drug that practically erases her estrogen. So of course her sex drive is nearly nil and she has a problem with dryness.

The dryness is overcome with a good lubricant. The libido is something we deal with as suggested by her oncologist. I'm not going to say what his suggestion was as different doctors have different ways of dealing with this situation.

Fact is you are an adult and this is something you should be able to discuss with your doctor in the privacy of his or her office. You’re not going to shock the doctor in anyway by saying you’re sexually active or that sex is an important part of your life. They have heard it before.

The goal of your doctor is to make you healthy and happy. If an active sex life is part of being happy the doctor will do all possible to give that to you. But you must speak with the doctor for he or she knows what works best with the medication you are taking and your illness. We do not and therefore should not be making any recommendations.

This is a matter to discuss with your doctor.

Loss of libido, while not life-threatening, is one of the worst side effects I've experienced. There are different ways of tackling it that don't require you dropping medication altogether.

When you talk to your doctor, let them know that it's an issue. Sometimes you may be able to switch to a different medication, or there can be supplementary medications you can take. For example, I take a psychiatric medication that causes low libido. Because of that, I've been put on an antidepressant that counteracts that symptom... it works like a charm! I can't recommend it, though, because I don't know what your situation is or whether it would interact with your current medication. Your doctor will know how to deal with the situation and can help you work towards a solution.

Unfortunately there are several medications which cause a decrease in sex drive. I myself take a medication that has affected me in the same way and I found medical marijuana in small amounts to help out tremendously. I do not advocate illegal use of any substance but if medically prescribed or legal in your state you may want to look into that. Another thing I found helpful was having sex on a near full bladder. I do not know the science behind this but several people both men and women as well as myself have noticed an increase in arousal when their bladder is full and a noticable decrease after going to the rest room. I'm not sure how often or what time of day you take your medication but you may want to time your dosage in a way in which the least amount of active medication is in your system during the most optimal opportunities you foresee wanting an increased sex drive. Lastly but perhaps the first suggestion you may want to ask your doctor and do research on your own of a possible substitution to your current medication or perhaps ask if there is something you can add to counteract the problem. I wonder if the medication you are taking is blocking normal blood flow to the area which I imagine could be the problem. If so, I would gather it is affecting blood flow to other areas that could cause other issues. You might want to bring it to your doctors attention if for no other reason to be sure it is simply a side affect with no health risks associated. If blood flow is the cause perhaps you could try applying heat or doing stretches to get the blood flowing. Hang in their and I wish you the best.
