What would yall do to prepare for the auditions of american idol? i really want to try out next year (cant this year because i wont be 16 in time) and i know that i need to lose weight and take voice lessons of some sort (never had voice lessons but im pretty good for someone who hasnt). all i know is im lost and i need help...can anyone help me out?

From a singer's stadpoint, I would do vocal warmups daily, choose my audition song now, along with like 5 other songs in very different genres, and practice. For any audition, it's always best to be prepared. Make sure that you eat well and maintain your health. If you're going to take voice lessons, start now. Drink tea with lemon and honey, and gargle with warm salt water. Please see other music questinos on my column for more tips.

i am 15 years old going into my sophomore year and i have never been kissed and only had 1 boyfriend which we hung out but it wasnt like a real boyfriend, i use to do modeling and i was on the cheerleading team in middle school i know i am not ugly and people think i am pretty, some guys do like me and guys ask me out but i always turn them down, i have 2 older brothers and a little sister, my brothers are protective so i never want to have a guy around me or bring any guys to my house. is there something wrong with me? when people find out i havnt kissed a guy or done anything like that think i am weird or not likeable. but i do want a boyfriend i just have a hard time getting one i like, is anyone else like this? i dont know what to do!

No, there's nothing wrong with that. I'm "saving" my first kiss for someone whom I really care for. It will mean so much more later. I could have gone and just kissed away. But why would I do that?

Just a quick question ..I have a 14 years old niece and she wants to get a job(to buy some extra clothes,make up etc)...But is this right ??...she may loose focus on her studies...I saw another nieces of mine work at this age and some of them the parents loose control over them becuase they think they work and have everything they need so they think they do not need their parents anymore...On the other hand it stimulate them to work for what they want but...it may leed them to fatal distractions working at so young age..just for buying extra clothes etc etc....

I began work at 11 and a half. I have over 1000 hours of work experience, and I just celebrated my 14th birthday. I was paid minimum wage, and some money I didn't take becuase I wanted to do community service. I haven't alienated my parents. I'm so much more responsible becuase of it. It really depends on the person.

I have my own songs, a music maker, and microphone/soundrecorder and CD burner on my computer. I've made one song all by myself before and I wanna make a demo CD.
SO... the big Q is...

How do I found out WHERE to send the demo CD?
What will the people I send it to be looking for? (i.e. 3 of my own songs, 1 of my own songs and one of someone else's, just one song of my own, just 1 of someone else's.... etc)
And CAN I sing someone elese's song because my voice rocks at it just for the demo CD and not have the artist get ticked at me (and not be breaking a law???)????

You cannot send a demo CD. You need to have an agent or manager to represent you in order to send the CD to record labels. You should not approach anyone via MySpace. It is very unprofessional.

You should send no more than three songs. I would suggest two of your songs and one of someone else's. Make sure that someone else plays the music for you live. The three songs should all be different genres. Maybe a pop-like song, a hip-hop song, and a ballad/gospel song? You want to really showcase your voice, so choose songs that have your lowest and highest notes in the song.

ok well i babysit for 8 or more hours i get there at 8 and then leave around 2,3,4,5 and im soooo bored! i dont know what to do like they dont have T.V basically and there computer talk about old no internet im so bored of reading a book and my sister wont let me like listen to her ipod sometimes and im affraid to call ppl you can hardly hear ppl. so what do i do there. the kids dont do ne thing most of the time and well i need to get that ipod next week i can stand it! ne more!!!! oh ya and my b.f is like grounded form the computer so no Iming or w.e

When I last baysat, I brought a huge bag full of things to do. I had crafts, books, board games, and a couple outside toys. We didn't touch the TV, and we used all of the stuff in my bag. The kids had a great time!!

My 17 year old daughter quit school, does not have a job--and does NOTHING around the house. She
does have money in savings which she has been blowing like crazy, but that's almost gone now. She lied to me about last night, said she stayed at a friends to babysit younger siblings, and I found out differently. The friends Mom doesn't even care that our daughters weren't there, so she is not much help. I don't know where my daughter is right now. When she comes home, I am going to tell her she cannot stay anywhere from now on. (she did this one other time and was grounded) I am prepared for a big fight from her, and she will probably leave without my permission. I am going to tell her that I will report her as a runaway.

She might turn the story on me and say she is abused. (Which of course she is not) but she plays the role of the victim well, and threatened to call CPS another time when I put my foot down.

Her BF is 19 and lives in a bordering state, but is it against the law if he takes her across state lines? She is (17) and other people seem to think that would not be against the law because she is over 16.

So my questions are.

Is a relationship between a 17 yr old and 19 yr old legal?

What happens when a 17 yr old is reported as a run away?

Does CPS automatically believe a teenager who plays the victim?

If he takes her across state borders, you could have him arrested for kidnapping.

So i made a music video for my friends birthday and it's fine and everything, but when i burned it onto a cd, there was nothing!! Only the audio [music] worked, you couldnt see the video or pictures or anything!!!

This might be too late....but burn it onto a DVD-R disc. You can get these pretty much everywhere. I hope your party is/was fun!!

How tall are you?

If you aren't at least 5'9'', then kiss your famous modelling career goodbye. All runway models are pretty much that tall and a size 0 or 2. There are a couple of exceptions, of course, but this is for the most part.

You should never, ever, ever pay for a portfolio. Your agent should cover that. It's a scam if they ask for money up front.

Acting is a very tough business. Most casting calls are in Burbank, California for TV shows, and everywhere across the globe for movies. You have to have an agent. They get you casting calls. You will be turned away if you just show up.

Agents are thousands upon thousands of dollars/year.

Acting classes might help, but most people are born with natural talent. you can usually tell who is natural and who's had coaching.

High school drama is a looooot different from real-world acting. Just so you know.

Anything that asks for money up front is a scam.

Hey im trying to write my own songs and i just cant seem to get the "flow" going. And i dont know what to write songs about. I cant get a rhythm of the song either. Or beat even. I know it sounds pathetic but i have no idea where to start! Please help!! I'll rate 5's!!!

I have written only a few songs that are actually worth singing.

The best time to write is usually when you're in the moment. I've written about boys, parents, other drama, teenage shallowosity, everything. But it only works while you're experiencing it, or at least it's that way for me.

Most people can't just sit down and write a song.

Adding to Mousy's answer, in the iTunes store, you can search for them and download them to either your iPod or just to iTunes. They should automatically update when you plug in your iPod.

i'm doing a dance piece and i love the song dangerously in love by beyonce but i don't know what type of dance would be best for it because it has an R&B feel, but it's pretty slow. my options are ballet tap jazz lyrical and hip-hop. please help! thanks!

Ballet is so classic-so elegant. It would be a challenge to do ballet, but I think that it would pay off.

I've been singing for about 7 years now, and I think it's time I started taking voice lessons. My mom insists that I have no natural talent. She's only heard me once, and at the time, I was so nervous that I didn't sound good. My mom said that if I had natural talent, then it would show up when I was a little kid. However, my choir teacher tells me I'm an incredible singer, and she's the type that never lies to make someone feel good. When I was a little kid, my chest voice wasn't so great and I didn't know how to use my head voice. I'm 13 right now, and a mezzo-soprano (though I have almost a three octave range). So do you have to be talented as a little kid to be a talented singer?

I, too, am a singer and also a vocal coach. Don't let my age deceive you. I started young.

If you are in choir, there isn't much else voice lessons will do. A voice lesson is probably a lot like your choir class, except for the fact that it's one-on-one. Your teacher should be happy to help you outside of class, anyway. But I digress.

No, you don't have to be talented as a little kid to become a talented singer. While this is often true in acting and modeling, it is not so in the music industry. Vocal lessons (or choir classes) often teach you about pitch, intonation, etc. This can help you infinitely.

If your choir teacher really likes your voice, ask her for a solo song (I mean a song with a solo in it.) and audition for the solo. That should convince your mom, eh?

Ok, so I have too many hobbies that take up too much time and my mom said that I need to think about next year and what I want to do and what I have time for. My two main concerns are I won't have time for my horses and my grades will slip. I'll list the activities (not including hanging with friends, homework and, oh yeah, sleep!) and time they take...

Riding: I try to make it out 4 or 5 times a week when I have my pony. Shows are all day either Saturday or Sunday.
Cross Country & Track: Every day for a few hours a day. Some meets during the week but others are all day Saturday or Sunday (already see a problem?)
Marching Band: Monday and Friday nights.
Girl Scouts: Every other Friday
Band and Chorus: In school except for a couple mandatory rehearsals right after school.
Private drum set lessons: Every Thursday night.
Spanish Club: One day after school each week for an hour.

Sorry that was so long but I guess my questions are how much can I do and how do I decide what to do? (I know only I can make the final decision but strategies would be helpful)

I actually have a similar problem.

I think that you should choose either xc or track and field. While that sport is going on, you should not ride as much, and then when track or xc isn't in season, then you can ride more.

I assume that you're going into high school? If so, teachers don't care about why you are failing. They'll try to help, but they try to teach you to be more independent. Your grades will slip. Maybe not a lot, but you'll feel overworked if you do this and then you'll be sleeping in class, etc.

I actually have two of these, and I wouldn't recommend buying them. You are just paying for the (hidden) label, so it really isn't worth it. They aren't stretchy,so if you grow, they will be too small. I got mine at Loehmann's, and while they are last season, they are still worth it. They were about 25 or 30 dollars each.

Heyy. I just wanted to know what clothing stores you reccomend. I'm looking to buy new clothes for summer. Maybe links and such. Just cute clothes from different sotres that you like. Just not super duper expencive. I like Delias, but I can't fit into they're jeans (too big), and I like forever 21. I even like Abercrombie. I would aslo like to know some stores that you might think I could fit into they're jeans. I'm rather small. 00's don't fit me, unless they run small.

I recommend American Eagle and Hollister for clothes for summer. Hollister has jeans tthat run really small. I normally wear a size 0 or 2, and it Hollister, I'm a size 5. Pac Sun also carries really small jeans. When I was a 00, I got jeans there.
