about

I've been away for a while due to a serious illness and subsequent health issues.

Favourite quotes of the moment:

The children of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years - Even in biblical times men wouldn't ask for directions!

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. whatever we do to the thread, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. - Chief Seattle.

We spend the first 12 months of a child's life teaching them to walk and talk. We spend the next 12 years telling them to sit down and shut up!

As you slide down the bannisters of life, may the splinters never be pointing the wrong way.

May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

I've been very happily married since August 1980 to a wonderful man and have beautiful twin girls, now aged 31. Both are married to wonderful young men and one of our girls has recently made us grandparents to a beautiful, smart and feisty granddaughter. I studied geology with the Open University. I am retired from being a manager in a large UK based insurance company which I actually quite enjoyed. (How sad is that?). I love anything to do with the environment and wildlife and try to do my bit for preservation and conservation. I would like there to be a decent world for our grandchildren to inherit. I also have CFS so find life a bit of a challenge at times but always hope for better health in the future.

I have a deep interest in the spiritual and the paranormal worlds, having experienced several incidents myself, and have been involved in meditation groups and groups that (safely) explore the paranormal. There is more to this life than we would normally credit, so an open mind is always the best option. You're not so likely to get caught by surprise!

I have a deep fascination for anything to do with Ancient Egypt, as you can probably tell by my name. I have statues and paintings all around the house. As my hubby has a similar interest in Native Americans, we tend to have a lot of unusual wall decorations, like a tomahawk.

I love cars, especially vintage ones, but my all time favourite has to be the Bugatti Chiron, what a car!

I have had a lot to do with animals over the years. I have fostered many, helped to set up a wildlife charitable hospital and raised a diverse range of young animals from bats to fox cubs and different species of birds, even a baby deer! I have had great pleasure in sharing my life and home with a number of animals over the years, most of them rescues. I am currently sponsoring an Amur Tiger, they are such beautiful cats and desperately need help, there are so few of them left. I was lucky enough a couple of years ago to meet some Aye-Aye's and Livingstone's Bats, a truly wonderful experience. We now have three cats, Oliver and Mollie, a brother and sister, he's a ginger and she's a tortoiseshell and a black and white called Daisy. She arrived in a taxi and was left on our doorstep in a cat carrier with the message that 'they knew we loved cats and would be good to her'. She has settled down well and gets on wonderfully with the other two.

If you have a pet that is showing ANY signs of illness or distress, please, please, please take it to a vet! Even if finance is an issue, work that out later. It is cruel to leave an animal suffering for any reason. Most animals do not show signs of illness until they have been ill for some time, basic instinct tells them it is a display of vulnerability, and certain death in the wild. Their instincts have not caught up with domesticity.

I do feel that we should all treat others as we would wish to be treated. Bad karma comes back to haunt us.

advice

I`ve been very interested in wicca for a long time. I was wondering if anyone here new more about wicca or sites I could figure out more about wicca. I am very interested in becoming wiccan

Wicca promotes an affinity with nature and harm to none. It advocates not interfering with free will, even if it appears to be for the greatest good at the time.
You will need a Book of Shadows, this can be a proper book, a notebook or even a 'book' you keep on computer. You only use it for the craft, not for anything else. In it, you record spells, incantations, rituals etc.
You will need to study hard and read everything you can on the subject and it is a huge one.
I've included some websites that can give you more information and a place to start.
Good luck.

heyy! soo i was wondering which would kill my hair less..like not giving it more split ends and making it unhealthy?! putting gel in it..as in scrunching it lol or straightening it? because i either have to do one of those each day and im TRYING to keep my hair as healthy as possible..because it just doesnt seem to grow and i am tryin to get it long! well thanks :]
i will rate anyone who answers 5!

Applying heat to hair will never be good for it but you can help to limit damage by using a good protein conditioner. This helps to restore/keep the elasticity of the hair that is lost through styling.
Straightening is going to be worse for the hair as you are using more heat and in a more concentrated area. If you want to straighten it, use the protein conditioner after washing your hair and as you straighten each section spray it with a good hair protector like GHD. Good luck.

ok, i have a stye on my eye, and it hurts really badly. I can't blink without feeling pain. What can I do to make it go away? What are the causes of styes? Also, I have an eye doctor appointment tomorrow (4/24). Is the stye going to affect it? Will my doctor still be able to do all the tests he needs to do (its just a regular check up).

13/f if that helps.

You should go to the doctors for treatment, or a pharmacy if it's not too bad. Don't leave it or it will get a lot worse. Also try not to touch it then touch the other eye as you could pass the infection on. Good luck.

ok heres the situation. your 15 yrs old. u never liked your dad, you hated him and you had this huge fite. and then he beats you wif a wooden stick until it broke. your mom was yelling at him and everything. and he hits your mom because she tries to stop him from hitting you. and then and then... a couple days later they act like nothings happened. yout mom doesnt want anyone else outside the family to kno this so she doesnt calls the police. you realli cant stand it that everyones living on fine and you get mad seeing your bruises. wat do you do?

That's child abuse and you seriously need to tell someone about it. It sounds like your mum is in a difficult position as well but you need support. You are entitled to a room in the house, even it's shared with another family member. It doesn't sound as though you have much to lose by moving out and a lot to gain, but don't do anything without speaking to either a teacher or counsellor first. They should be able to help you in this.
At your age there are certain things you have a right to expect, and a big one is to not live in fear. Good luck.

Has anyone on here ever played with a weegee board? If you have what was it like? Was is weird?? Honest answers please!

It's called a ouija board from the French and German for yes.
Things can happen, like table shifting and answers to questions but I would not recommend using one unless you have a VERY experienced person with you to control things. If there is a weakness in the link it could let in lower spirit forms and that can be bad news for all involved.
They are not always very reliable either. If you have someone you really want to speak to in the spirit world, I would suggest a highly recommended medium instead. Hope that helps.

Hi. I was wondering, does anyone know anything about cleaning your syster from sugar and stuff I guess? Because my cousin's boyfriend (who works in a hospital) said something some time ago about how he has been drinking water for a month and is trying to clean out his system. Can you do that by drinking only water? How much water a day? How long does it have to be? OK, thanks!

Drinking water does help to cleanse the system, but you also need to stop eating the foods that are unhealthy as well. You find out the amount of water you should drink each day by taking your body weight in pounds, dividing it by two, taking one of the sums and turning it into fluid ounces. Doing it this way stops some people from drinking too much water, yes it is possible, and others from not drinking enough. As with most things it's all relative. Good luck.

why is my poop bloody sometimes?
i havent started my period yet if this helps

You don't say if the blood is bright or dark red. If it's bright red it's probably because you're a bit constipated and have strained to evacuate your bowels, causing a small tear. This is easily solved by including more fibre in your diet and drinking more water. If it's dark red it's come from further up the alimentary canal and should be investigated by a doctor. Basically the darker the blood, the further it has travelled. Dark blood could be caused by a variety of things so it does need to be checked out. Good luck.

my neighbor that is jewish says that if you drop a torah in a "sanctuary" like a temple you have to fast for 120 days! you have like a 99.9 % chance of dying though! is this true?

Dropping a Torah is a serious matter but it seems that the fasting is for only 40 days and applies to all who witnessed it as well. I have included some web sites that can give you more information. Hope it helps.

For the past couple weeks or so, I've noticed that I am REALLY tired.

Even on nights when I sleep well, I tend to find myself in class struggling to stay awake or even falling asleep.

When I get home from school, I also find myself falling asleep even though I did not intend to take a nap.

Other than that, I generally feel fine other than headaches that feel like 'sleep headaches' - you know, the kind you get when you haven't slept.

I fall asleep around 10:30 at night and get up at about 6 every day, which seems like plenty of sleep.

Any idea why I may be feeling like this? Are there any medical concerns with this -- like could this be a symptom of an illness even though no others are present?

Teenagers do need an awful lot of sleep as so much is going on in their bodies at this time. However, it could be the start of something like mono or M.E., both are treatable but you need to see a doctor as soon as you can, just to rule out anything serious, and to get treatment if it's necessary. This is particularly important if you develop any other symptoms. Good luck.

I am possibly thinking about going on an airplane in the near future and would like your advice/opinions about Airplanes. I would like to know who has been on one, How do you like flying, What do you love about Flying, what do you hate about flying and what advice you would give to me if I were to fly. Feel free to answer my question and really good advice in great detail will get a 5.

Flying is great, the best way to travel, I love it so much I've started taking flying lessons. Planes get you places more quickly than any other form of transport, it's safer, the food is generally ok, depending on who you fly with, and duty free is brilliant.
If you're going short haul, you don't really have much time to do anything, so take a book or a magazine. Long haul you usually get in flight movies and programmes to watch, you get fed and watered, the toilets are not great though. Be nice to the flight attendants, I've heard some horror stories of what they can do if they're upset with a passenger. Take some chewy sweets or gum for when you take off and land as the change in air pressure can make your ears feel weird for a while. Most airports have high security now so get there at least two hours before you fly and be prepared to take your shoes off to go through security, some even want photos and iris ID pictures, so you do need the extra time. If you or anyone travelling with you has difficulty walking, you can ask for a transporter car to take you to embarkation, and for an extra fee, you could also use the luxury lounge with free tea/coffee/snacks/newspapers, and board first. This saves you having to wait around in line with everyone else.
I guess one of the most unpleasant things about flying, (if you don't have a strong stomach or nerve), is if the plane hits an air pocket or bad weather. Air pockets can cause the plane to suddenly fall a distance and bad weather can cause turbulance. The pilots are well used to all this so can handle it but it can make some passengers panic.
On top of all that, the arrivals department has to be one of the best places to be, everyone is so happy, the atmosphere is on a permanent high. So go enjoy the experience and have a wonderful time. Just be prepared to get hooked. Good luck.

i have never been allergic to anything or had allergies. but i haave heard its allergy season and yesterday during the day my eyes got really watery, my nose was stuffy & i didn't have a cold. i know these are symptoms of allergies.. so do i have them? thanks

It does sound like an allergy. If it happens again but you are sure you do not have a cold, you should go to the doctors just to get it checked out. They will be able to prescribe suitable medication for it, for example, you don't say how old you are, but some allergy remedies recommend you don't drive when you are taking them, you also would be unwise to drink whilst on these remedies. Hope that helps.

in zoo tycoon 2, the box says you dont have to hire a zoo keeper to clean the exibits and feed the animals, you can do it yourself.how do you clean up the animals poop without hiring a zoo keeper to do it?i know how to place food and everything, but i dont know how to clean the exhibits(the poop).

Go to guest view, hold down left mouse button, move to area that needs to be cleaned, a lighted circle will appear when you reach it with the question, do you want to clean the poop? The same will happen to replenish food and water and to groom the animals. Hit the spacebar if you want to say yes and it will be raked up. Hope that helps.

oookayy so i have dark eyebrows and my mom thinks i should buy bleach and make them lighter.. they dont really bother me but i have no problem making them lighter. but i dont really want to do it myself bc i dont want to mess them up even more. what should i do?

Well if they don't bother you, leave them alone. If you start to bleach you will either have to keep doing it or wait for them to grow out, and that might look strange.
They're your eyebrows so you should make the decision. If you have dark hair, they may look odd lighter anyway. Good luck.

Why does it seem like that teenagers do bad stuff like smoking, drinking, drugs, and stuff like that when they get stressed out?

It's not just teenagers that do it, adults do as well but I guess the younger you are the more noticeable it is.
Sometimes stress can cause someone to need a crutch to lean on, it gives temporary relief or a diversion from the pain/anguish. It is the easy option and a way of avoiding dealing with the real issues. Talking to a friend, parent, teacher or councillor may be difficult to start with but a better way to go as then the problems stand a chance of being resolved.
Also teenagers are more susceptible to peer pressure, so it's easier for them to give in to these ways of dealing with stress. I would think that most adults got started in this way. The availability can also make it harder to resist.
I don't think for one minute that teenagers are worse than adults, they just have an awful lot more pressure on them now than a few years ago, so it's hardly surprising a lot of them crack and look for some sort of relief from their problems.
Hope that helps.

can you have a miscarrige cause the baby does not get enough food? also what are some reasons miscarriges can happen plez help only answer if you know for sure plez thanx alot

Some web sites that may help you, but generally the baby will take all it's nutrients from the mother, so the mother will suffer before the baby. Whilst it is still in the womb, it will act in the same way as a parasite ( in the nicest possible way) making sure that it will be fine. It has a very strong survival instinct.

I am always getting the hiccups. Always! Sometimes when I hiccup its only just once then i get them again and then its just once. Then at different times when i get the hiccups i get several and they dont go away for quite sometime. I know this sounds stupid.. but could this be a bad thing?

It's not usually a serious thing unless you can't stop for a very long time, then you need to see a doctor. It's your diaphragm going into spasm. It could be caused by indigestion etc.
If you want them to stop, a method i've found always works is to fill a glass or cup right up to the brim, bend over it and drink from the opposite side of the glass. Don't go down so far though that the water goes up your nose instead of down your throat. It works due to the compression on the diaphragm from bending over, whilst using your swallowing reflexes. Good luck.
