Extreme tiredness

Question Posted Thursday April 20 2006, 7:23 pm

For the past couple weeks or so, I've noticed that I am REALLY tired.

Even on nights when I sleep well, I tend to find myself in class struggling to stay awake or even falling asleep.

When I get home from school, I also find myself falling asleep even though I did not intend to take a nap.

Other than that, I generally feel fine other than headaches that feel like 'sleep headaches' - you know, the kind you get when you haven't slept.

I fall asleep around 10:30 at night and get up at about 6 every day, which seems like plenty of sleep.

Any idea why I may be feeling like this? Are there any medical concerns with this -- like could this be a symptom of an illness even though no others are present?

Teenagers do need an awful lot of sleep as so much is going on in their bodies at this time. However, it could be the start of something like mono or M.E., both are treatable but you need to see a doctor as soon as you can, just to rule out anything serious, and to get treatment if it's necessary. This is particularly important if you develop any other symptoms. Good luck.

It could just be a normal teenage thing. I'd advise you see a doctor if it continues, just to be on the safe side.

I would suggest mono but you don't mention a sore throat or anything like that.

I will give you the website anyway so you can check it out for yourself if you'd like.

It is probably just a hormonal thing or something but do check with the doctor if it continues. :)

it could be anything, including lack of eating. worst case scenario is that you have mono, because a lot of fatigue is the number one symptom of the disease, but don't freak. just go to your parents or a doctor if it continues. hope this helps

Well if you a teenager then the problem is that teens need extra sleep so my advise is to do what i do sleep on school nights like you normaly do then on the weekends sleep alot more than normal.

If your not a teen and are an adult then you probly should see a docter for better advise.

Well if you're a teen, the answer is simple. Your body is growing and consuming a lot of energy. If not, it could be your bed. Maybe comfort is an issue here.

I have the same problem, though, I have been staying up until 4-5 on weekends since I was about 10 so I am used to it now on weekday when I need to get some reasonable sleep.

Though I try to fall asleep at 1030, it never works out. I find my self still laying there trying to sleep at 1130, even 12 and beyond.

Some nights I do get a reasonable amount of sleep though. The reason I feel more tired, I believe is because of a term called "sleep debt" where you body loses sleep and then when you get a chance to recoup, you're even more tired.

I can't tell you if there is such a thing as sleep debt, though. Just something I personally believe in.

it doesn't really seem like a medical concern, because school can make you tired & stress could too. are you in any sports er other activities? that can also make you tired. 10:30 might be a bit late to sleep. if you can go to sleep earlier, maybe around 9-10 range, you might feel more awake during the day. if not, you'll have to adjust. if it doesn't get any better in a week er so, then try going to your family doctor.

-hope that helped!♥
