ok, i have a stye on my eye, and it hurts really badly. I can't blink without feeling pain. What can I do to make it go away? What are the causes of styes? Also, I have an eye doctor appointment tomorrow (4/24). Is the stye going to affect it? Will my doctor still be able to do all the tests he needs to do (its just a regular check up).

It shouldn't affect your opticians appointment too much, as long as you explain to them that it hurts when you blink. As far as I know, there's no real treatment for styes and you usually have to let them disappear in their own time. However, your optician might be able to shed a little more light on this and he may have a way to treat it so let him know what's wrong and see what he says. The Dr may be able to prescribe something for you to help it heal faster. For now try a warm moist washcloth for 20 minutes at a time. This will help releive the inflammation and the pain.
Styes can be caused by staph bacteria so be careful not to touch it with your hands. Sometimes a small oil gland will get plugged which will create the swelling and redness. [ Nallie's advice column | Ask Nallie A Question ]

When You Go To Wall Mart Or Something I Recommmend That You Pick Up This "Sterile Lubricant Eye Ointent" Called STYE. It Works Very Well! Hope You Get Better!

I have a web site for you that will help you out.
The best person to tell you about sty's is your eye doctor! So seeing him tomorrow is great!
It probably won't affect the rest of your eye tests and he can probably give you something to help with the sty. If it is even still there, many are gone the day after you get them. If that happens mention it to the eye doc anyway. :)
isis answered Sunday April 23 2006, 1:25 pm: You should go to the doctors for treatment, or a pharmacy if it's not too bad. Don't leave it or it will get a lot worse. Also try not to touch it then touch the other eye as you could pass the infection on. Good luck. [ isis's advice column | Ask isis A Question ]
duudee_advicer answered Sunday April 23 2006, 12:17 pm: hey hey :)
my best friend had one for quite a while cause she shared somebody else's eyeliner. Yeah, well she went to the doctor and got antibiotics to kill the infection cause hers was pretty bad.
I'd call the eye doctor, and just let them know whats up and see if it'll be a problem. It depends on the doctor if it'll be a problem, some say it will, some say it wont. So just give them a heads up :)
PunkieFreak4690 answered Sunday April 23 2006, 11:39 am: Stye eye just means you got an infection in your eye. It's common and I had it before. What usually works is just put a clean, warm-hot wet towel or rag on the eye several times a day and it usually goes away within a day or two. Commonly the stye eye won't effect you afterwards; it's just a little infection caused from getting soap in your eye, from eye makeup staying near your eyes for a long period of time, or rubbing it too much. It's like getting pink eye. But you don't need to worry much about it unless it persists or worsens after a few days. Then seeing a Doctor would help as well.
