As John Lennon once said, "Life is what happens while you're busy making other plans." So true.Giving advice is sort of second nature to me. I use to have a column on here but ended up deleting it. Now once again I have decided to give advice again. I value people and their problems and try to help them the best I can.
No question is a silly question. Every question has importance. I sometimes feel like some of my questions I want to ask are viewed as pointless but have comed to realize that this isn't entirely true.
My biggest pet peeves are bad spelling, grammar and punctuation. It's silly, but I mean it's not that difficult to tell the difference between you're and your. Or even their, they're and there. No offense if you do any of this, but we learned all of these when we were younger in 5th grade (give or take).
Personally one of my favorite quote is by Eleanor Roosevelt. "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
If only people would truly realize this, the world would be so much happier.

Hi there,
I am on Cilets, birth control pill(21 pill with a 7 day rest).
I took it back to back due to holiday reasons.
A week before my period i had brown bleeding for about a week (old blood), then i started my period as usual on the correct day, although my period was heavey it only lasted three days heavey and two days very,very light. Is this normal? I usually have a period last 4-5 days heavey Sorry if it is a dumb question.
By the way i took one pill late by 9 hours(within the 12 hour limit).

It's most definitely normal. Since you didn't take it that's why the the heavier flow lasted three days and the two days were very light. I have a flow kind of like that with my birth control. So it's truly normal, even if you took the pill late. I do that, and take it immediately when I can.

Totally agree with the first answer. MAC cosemtics has the best examples on how to use two different eyeshadow colors. They always apply two different colors for the most part. Look at the looks part of their site.

Okay, So im on the softball team & im a sophmore.
Ive NEVER played softball in my life.
& today was the first day of summer workout and today I realized that Im reallly out of shape.
I'm sore and everything on my body is killing me.
When my muscles ache, it causes me to get sick and run a veryy high temperature.
I dont want to quit the team already after one day. But I dont want to come home everyday and be sick.
Should I quit or suck it up?

Honestly I did that freshman year, but I played softball earlier in my life but stopped after 6th/7th grade and didn't realize how hard it would be to get back into it.
What I did was I just gave up. I felt exactly how you felt, and I know you're thinking you want to make the team, but honestly there's no point if you'll be sick. Honestly, just don't join the softball team. You'll be better off since sophomore year can be a killer if you don't really realize it. It'll turn out for the best anyways. I ended up doing better with my grades than I would have with playing softball. It'll look better for college probably, in the long run.
If you want, try going again and see how you feel. If you're not comfortable again, just quit. There's no point in being uncomfortable there.

Hey I have a question about clothes. What kind of clothes should I wear to be more attractive to girls. I have most of the basics of dress down but just wanted some tips. Any advice is appreciated. 16/M
You could totally go down the road that a lot of the other girls said and go with Abercrombie, Hollister, American Eagle, so on and so forth with layering the polos and all that. Some of guys where I live do the look I'm going to tell you to go with. And I think (my opinion so no offense if someone disagrees) that these looks can look better than your average polo and jeans. (Even though that is a good look too)
Personally I like guys who shop at Express and Armani Exchange. Button down shirts, regular tees, paired with great jeans can make any guy look really good. Polos from Abercrombie and Hollister are good too, but I mean so many guys are wearing that. I love it when guys are different than that and wear something like a button down and a good pair of jeans. (Some people might be like button down are you kidding? But if you look at the websites for Armani Exchange and Express they have nice examples in the pictures of the button downs that don't look cheesy at all). Plus Express and Armani Exchange are about the same price (maybe a tad more) than the other places, but depending on where you live people might be wearing Abercrombie and Hollister and it might be a plus to be different and wear Armani Exchange.

Plus you could pair the shirts with a nice jacket besides a hoodie, so you could have a hoodie for one day and a nice jacket for another. Seriously though, the Abercrombie look, American Eagle look, and Hollister look, are good looks with the polos and jeans, but I totally think a lot of people wear that. Individuality is what stands out to me, so try going with the stores I mentioned. You'd stand out if where you lived everyone wore Abercrombie and Hollister.

whenever i am introduced to a new guy or meet a new guy they are always really weird around me, like they stand a few feet back and don't really make eye contact with me. the guy friends i have now say before i met them i came off intimidating. i don't see why, really. i'm not really loud and obnoxious or anything. and i'm 5'4'' (i guess that's like an average height) and i'm not huge so it doesn't look like i can beat up someone. whenever i meet them i'm always pretty friendly and smiling and stuff...what's the deal?
I just had this talk with my friend. Guys get intimidated so easily. They can look at you, and if you have a pretty face they'll just get intimidated since you're pretty.
He meant you intimidate them by your looks. Guys are afraid to approach some girls that they think will reject them on an instant. They don't want to be rejected by you so they think avoiding you and being intimadated will just save them the trouble of rejection.
You could be gorgeous and guys will just be intimidated. It's not anything you're doing, like being obnoxious or even loud, but if that's how you look, they'll just be intimidated. That happens with me all the time. I'm the total opposite of being loud, and obnoxious, and I'm always friendly and even sometimes shy, but from how I look some guys get intimidated and don't approach me.

im 14, and i want to buy my own cellphone and i have the money for everything; cellphone, plan, etc
however my parents are very strongly against cellphones and although they will drive me to the verizon store to buy a cellphone, they refuse to sign anything

If I were you, I would get a prepaid. They're just as good with no contacts. If you don't like the service at Verizon you can, say, get T Mobile or Cingular. Pre paids I think are sometimes better anyways since you don't have that contract and control your bill in a sense.
The only thing you really pay for is the cell phone, and your minutes.

Okay. Well I'm going to be a sophomore this year... I need to get straight A's... How hard was your sophomore year? What grades did you get? Any pointers?
I think it depends on your school. I just went through sophomore year, and it wasn't too bad. You need to keep up with the homework during the year. It seems dumb, but that's what everyone said to me going in, and it helped a lot. Don't slack off with homework.
My average was a 92 all year, and went up at one point at the second trimester. So it's obtainable to get all A's. Just as I said before don't slack off. Chemistry I think was the hardest subject for me towards the end, since it was easy in the beginning and got somewhat more difficult. So be careful if you're taking chemistry.
All in all I didn't think it was bad. You can get good grades, a lot of people slack off and do badly. As long as you do homework, and take good notes you'll do fine.

I've liked this girl for as long as I can remember.We went out once but it just kind of ended.Since then she's gone out with a bunch of guys,and I get sort of jealous every time I see her with someone else.She's the one person that fully understands me and everything and it feels like we should be together,but I have doubts.
Should I ask her or is it too late?I'm afraid that after the years of building our friendship,it could get in the way.I just don't know what to do and I know I won't be satisfied until I at least let her know how I feel.
Try talking to her about it. You can't go on wondering what could have been if you don't do anything. Just ask her, it's never too late for anything half the time in life. Even if you ask, I don't think it's going to affect your relationship. But if she does change, then she wasn't really worth your time or effort since she should be able to understand where you're coming from. Tell her, just do it. You'll feel so much better if you do. You won't be carrying that weight around trying to figure out what to do.
Life wouldn't be life if we didn't have to take risks. Take the risk and ask her. She might just surprise you and tell you that she feels the same way.

Mederma is really good to get rid of old scars. I think there's something else too which is like a tape you can put on your arm to get rid of the scars. It's like a scar healing patch. I got one from a dermatologist, but you can get one from a regular doctor if you ask.

What is/are the best college guidebook/s? For example, Princeton Review and Fiske? I'm looking for reviews of colleges (I know I can look at the collegeboard or princeton review sites, but i'm interested in a book,) statistics and also how to get accepted (what those colleges look for, etc.) Basically an all-in-one college book (or if thats not possible, the best of all of the side-categories.)

The College Board makes a huge huge book. It breaks up the colleges by states, and shows you the requirements like GPA, SAT/ACT scores, class rank in freshmen admitted. Plus they show majors too, and give you admission dates and such. The book's huge though you'll never miss it.

Honestly, I have the Princeton Review book for the Northeast, and the College Board book. The College Board book goes into what you can major and minor in, and the Princeton Review book tells about what the student body is like, and what students think of the school. When I was in Barnes and Noble I thought those two books were the best ones.

I don't think I'm beautiful back home. Maybe pretty sometimes.. but not pretty enough to get compliments or stares from guys. that's saved for the real beauties.

Please I've noticed that too, since I live in NY. A lot of guys in other places will stare, but back home it's like "what's wrong with me?" Since no one there looks at you.
I think half the time, guys can be superficial when they're from states like NY, or Cali. There's a ton of gorgeous guys and girls, and it's always like you can be beautiful but they won't look your way if there's someone they consider "beautiful".
Honestly I think it's different preference in the state away from your home, and that the guys where you are (not at home) aren't as superficial as some of the guys in Cali.
I'm sure you're gorgeous, and I know what you're going through. It's the place, not you. In time things will change. You'll notice more guys staring at you where you live in Cali as time goes on. Some guys break the mold of being superficial.

There are these Brite Smile pens that you can buy, they really brighten up your teeth and make them pop. One pen lasts like a month. For 3 I think it costs $60 so it's a pretty good deal. Go to HSN, I know they sell them. Or you can go to the Brite Smile website.

i have the wet 2 straight hair straighenter and it's wearing out. the metal part is rusting, i think it's from using it while my hair was wet. well that's what it was meant for. but anyway, i need a new straightener. i have easy hair to work with and it takes me 30 minutes to do my hair with the wet 2 straight hair straightener. but i need a new straightener. please give me good ones that will do my hair in even less time but a reasonable price to buy.
Okay, well there's a few I can recommend. I'm not sure what your budget is, but you said reasonable price. I'm going to give you a sort of budget straighteners I'd use or have used in the past of the ones I'd totally recommend for you to use (the one I use, and the one used at m salon). Just remember sometimes you get what you pay for, and if you get a good straightener that might cost a lot, it'll be well worth it than replacing a new straightener. Food for thought, but I know how pricey they can get. (I'd never recommend non-ceramic. They're so so much better)

Honestly, I'd go with the more expensive ones. I got my T3 at Sephora, so I didn't have to wait for the flat iron to show up in the mail. You get what you pay for, so you might want to invest in a better straightener if the other one broke on you. Truly it'll last longer too, and you'll not have to buy one more frequently like a cheaper flat iron. My T3 takes seconds to notice my hair to get straighter and I have wavy hair, and an added bonus, you'll not have to wait that long for it to heat up like other irons.
If you want to wait a while and then buy a good one, go with either Conair or Remington. Both are pretty reputable and cheap.

My boyfriend broke up with me about 7 or 8 months ago. We only went out for a little over a month. He broke up with me for another girl and it took me a while to get over because i still liked him. We managed to stay friends because we chill with the same group of people. It's okay for you to get upset with this, I would if I was in your position. The only reason, he can think of, why he went out with you was because you had a "huge rack" and a "nice butt". It's like he totally eliminated getting to know you at all, and just wanted to go out with you because of your looks.
The best thing you can probably do is call him on it, and ask him if it's true. If it is you need to say that it's not right for a guy to go out with a girl just because of how she looks, and that's it's totally pathetic and immature. Does he seriously think if every girl who lives in your town found out that's why he went out with a girl, that no other girl would want to even talk to him? How dumb.
Honestly, there's a ton of guys out there that are the total opposite. They're hard to find, but they're out there. Keep that in mind. Know not all guys are like him. For now though get you're feelings out and don't keep them inside. Please don't wallow if you're hurt, that's totally not worth it.

Don't cut out carbs. Just switch pasta, bread and rice for whole grain pasta, bread and rice. Just don't cut out carbs because female bodies don't react with that, like male bodies do. Eat a lot of diary like Light and Fit yogurt for calcium. Soy milk like Silk is good for both calcium and protein. All of it will help you burn fat.
Do cardio to burn fat up. Walking or jogging on a treadmill or in the street will definitely help you lose weight. The cardio will make a difference greatly.
Well crunches on a stability ball will help. Self magazine has a lot of different exercises you can do to do it.

I'd do the cardio first to burn fat first, then start doing crunches and ab workouts. Start doing them now, and continue them for basically months. Do the workouts 3-5 times a week.

I'm 15, female. I used to be an outgoing, bubbly cheerleader .. I got along great with everyone! I was confident in who I was. Lately, I'm not sure whats happened. I've limited myself to a few friends and my boyfriend. I barely trust anyone, and I always think of the negative side. No matter how hard I try to stay positive, things get to me and break me down. I'm not near as happy as I used to be, I get jealous so easily.
I want to get back to my oldself, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I've tried "just being myself" or talking to old friends but it always ends up me alone again. What should I do? I miss my perky and fun life. Help.
Try to think of positive things about yourself. It sounds so stupid but do it. Next try to come to terms that things change, and people change and there's nothing you can do about it. (That's going to help with the trust issue) Trust is such a hard thing to re-establish. You need to realize that there's many different people out there, who are loyal and even disloyal. It'll take time to repair that aspect of your life. Give it time, things will change for you. Stay positive though, many times you'll just get such a personality change from that alone.
There's books out there like Self-Help books that might be able to help. One I'm reading is Nobody's Perfect. It's like short stories and poems and such.

Walking is really good to lose weight. It'll get you started and motivated. Then you can move up to running when you're ready. Get a pedometer if you're going to start walking/running, so you could count your steps and calories. Some watches have pedometers and calorie counters built in.
Winsor Pilates is really good. I use them and some of Self magazines DVDs they have.
