**EDIT** Yes, you can get it at Walgreens, Walmart, a pharmacy, etc.

Personally, I would suck it up, because I had a lot of fun playing softball when I was in school.

Get yourself a bag of Epsom Salts and put them in a warm bath. It has all the directions on the bag, and tells you how to use them if you don't have a bathtub to soak in.

It will help ease your aching body until it gets used to the workout.

You should suck it up.

Pain just just weakness leaving body.

But if you have fevers, brain damage, heart attacks, etc. from the work outs.. I think quitting is okay.

Whether you quit or not is completely up to you. if you don't enjoy the sport, don't really have any friends on the team, then I don't see the point of staying on the team.

However, if you really want to prove to yourself that you can do it, which you can, then I suppose staying on the team would be a good idea.

I can tell you that although how painful it may be, it is helping, not harming your body. The human body was meant to take an extreme amount of physical activity before giving out. All of the pain is just a mental problem you can easily overcome if you put your mind to it.

If you choose to stay on the team, here is some advice to help with the pain.

1. Stretch after practice. When you get home, if you watch TV or something, stretch whatever muscles may be sore and hold the stretch for 30 seconds. Your quads, calves, back, etc... are all good muscles to stretch. Do these stretches consistently after practice. This should relieve soreness the next day because it gets oxygen to your muscles.

2. Consume glutamine, which is an amino acid. You can get this through a whey protein shake, or just by eating protein rich foods such as meat. Also eat bananas if you can because they are rich in potassium which helps relieve soreness.

3. Generally, the third day is the hardest when it comes to doing intense physical activity for the first time or if you're out of shape. By hardest, I mean hardest physically. Chances are it will get harder mentally throughout the season.

4. Ice is also your friend. Make sure to ice any injuries you have. If your team has a phyysical trainer, I would talk to him or her about any injuries. Also, if you ever get light headed or get chest pains during exercise, STOP what you are doing.

5. As for the heat, there are some clothes that can help with that. I know underarmor has a type of shirt that allows heat to escape the body. If you're interested, just go to your local sports store and ask about it.

Best of luck to you.

Dear Ouch,
The sucking up is or quitting is your decision, but there are things that you can do. See getting sick is just your body's reaction, your sore because your muscles are growing and so is your endurance. Things will get better in a few weeks. Maybe running around the block at home, could help you. Just a lap is all you need. And make sure to get PLENTY of rest and fluids, come to think of it, you may be dehydrated. Make sure your drinking at least five or six bottles of water a day. And make sure to get to bed early, this means no late summer nights! Make sure you get MORE than eight hours of sleep. And eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
Train your heart out!

Honestly I did that freshman year, but I played softball earlier in my life but stopped after 6th/7th grade and didn't realize how hard it would be to get back into it.

What I did was I just gave up. I felt exactly how you felt, and I know you're thinking you want to make the team, but honestly there's no point if you'll be sick. Honestly, just don't join the softball team. You'll be better off since sophomore year can be a killer if you don't really realize it. It'll turn out for the best anyways. I ended up doing better with my grades than I would have with playing softball. It'll look better for college probably, in the long run.

If you want, try going again and see how you feel. If you're not comfortable again, just quit. There's no point in being uncomfortable there.

Hope this helps you, and good luck with your decision. Message me if anything. :)

Definitely don't quit.

I played basketball this year for the first time, and was so out of shape it's not even funny. I was behind everyone else on the team and knew that when I was going in. Everyday I wanted to quit, but that's just taking the easy way out. Eventually, I got used to it, and all the extra working out helped me out in the long run. I'm glad I didn't quit, because now I think it helped me. Plus, college's might look for it. :]

Stay strong!

I believe the right category for this would be "physical fitness", because that's exactly what the issue is.

Don't quit. You just have to get back in shape. Work out every day to build up your stamina. Once you work past the hardest part, you won't have the problem anymore. If you quit, you won't get into shape. Just, do the workouts the best you can and sometimes if you don't have a workout, you can exercise on your own. Run, do tae-bo, things that get your heart rate up. Eventually, your muscles won't get sore and your body will get used to the activity.
