About Mara
Hey, I'm Mara. I love dancing. It's practically my favourite thing to do. I love House, R&B, pretty much everything with a good beat, and Benny Benassi is my hero; that's why my column is a shrine to him. I graduated this year and am now in my first year of college where I'm trying to pick a major. Chances are you'll see some of my Psychology questions floating around somewhere here. I'm also extremely interested in Political Science too because I, like half the people living in Canada, somehow want to change the world. I particularly want to find a cure for poverty, corruption, cancer, AIDS and George Bush because honestly, I think those are the biggest problems we have right now. I have decided that maybe I should take the time to live a little before I start though because I have a good fifty years ahead of me to fix all the issues there are. Currently my life consists of: studying, working, socializing, eating and ocassionaly sleeping. I spent practically all of my high school life being a delinquent and partying to huge extents until I discovered my brain sometime in the middle of my senior year. I still like to have a good time every once in a while but you always need to find that balance (I haven't exactly found it yet but I'm getting close). Unfortunatley, a habit that has stuck with me from school is my obsessive gossiping. I just can't stop and you know, an article in Cosmo says that gossipers are healthier people because they bond over it? Who would have thought? Anyway, I do have my limitations and I don't condone nasty, brutal gossiping and I don't gossip about anything my friends have told me in confidence or something about someone else that they have slipped to me, however, if I find you in a washroom at a random party making out with my bestfriends's boyfriend, a few people are probably going to hear about it. Actually, more than a few people will hear about it because one of my absolute pet peeves is parties where the all the bathrooms are occupied due to sexual activity or... puking activity. Sooooo what else is there to know about me? My favourite thing in the world is shopping and my worst fear is existantialism. I am OCDey in a clinical way so you can ask me questions about that. You can ask me practically anything you want except for dumb questions but I'm not going to answer them in my little column here because it's a huge waste of space when I could be writing about myself (Click 'LookIt' on my menubar for answers to dumb questions so you don't have to embarass yourself asking them and getting bitched out from me). What I can do, is offer you three pieces of truly inspirational advice. Firstly, never live your life by what others want of you, cherish yourself and everyone around you, and never beat yourself down about anything you couldn't have avoided. Secondly, donate at least ten percent of the income you earn in your life to someone who needs it. Lastly, never get into a bulldozer when you're under the influence and start driving it towards a poor freshmen (I am never going to another kegger ever again... ever). Ok, I'll shut up now. You can start asking me stuff, if you haven't hit the back button already.

Yesterday I lost my virginity to my boyfriend. I didn't bleed and it didn't really hurt (but then, I WAS drunk.) I ride horses a lot, I use tampons, and I DO masturbate. He asked me seriously if I was a virgin before that and I told him yes, but I don't think he believed me...Is there any way I can convince him?
Ask him why he thought you weren't a virgin. If the answer is vague, just explain to him that tons of girls break their hymen before they lose their virginity and you probably did because horseback riding is a pretty intense activity.
If he still doesn't believe you, there isn't much else you can do other than that except reanalyze your relationship to see why it isn't ticking right.

Okay, my friend is getting married, so a few of us decided that we would but her a vibrator as a gag gift. We've been looking around the place and the cheapest one we can find is one for 49.00, but we don't wanna spend that much. Does anyone know where we can get a cheap vibrator?
Either online or go to a porn store. That's pretty much where the only places where they're available.
I've seen vibrators for $10.00. I'm fairly sure you won't have a hard time. Ask a sales associate or something. Maybe you've just been looking at the wrong stores.

I messed around with a girl's myspace. Meaning, I moved her top friends around and posted a picture of her ex on her "who I'd like to meet" section. I didn't change her password or anything. When she changed it back to how she had it, I'd change it to how I had it. I did this for less than a week. I never posted anything degrading. She put on her about me "F*** you, [insert my name], I don't care that you change around my top 8. Grow up.
So, she decided to press charges WITH THE POLICE against me (she went to the school police officer). I haven't been notified of her doing this yet, I've just heard. Anyways, is could there be a legitamite charge pressed against me? And if so, what would be the process of this happening? I have a clean record.
I KNOW none of you are lawyers, I'm just asking if anyone knows.
This kind of thing happens all the time. Don't worry about it, the cops have better things to do than worry about high school grudges. Anyway, she has no solid proof that you went on her account. You probably didn't even impersonate her. You could say it wasn't you or even claim she gave you her password if it ever comes down to it, which it won't.
The police officer probably laughed at her. The worst you'll get is a counselor talking to you and you can easily make up some story.
She's a dumb girl and she won't get anywhere but you should stop messing around with people's accounts. That kinda of stuff always asks for drama.

I know this is a kind of personal question, but I've always kind of wondered what girls think when a guy gets a hard-on dancing with them. So basically, I only want girls to answer this question. Do you like it? Does it freak you out? Is it more of a compliment or is it offensive? Basically, just tell me what you think about when you feel a guy get hard when he's grinding with you, etc. thanks.
It isn't a compliment. Usually my girlfriends and I end up making fun of the guy once the dance is over with. Guys who get stiff when dancing are associated with being desperate sometimes, especially if they do it with multiple girls. If we don't really know the guy we're dancing with and were hesitant to dance with him in the first place, it's more of an "eww get away from me" moment and could get pretty nasty.
It kind of varies though depending on the situation. Like, there was a platonic guy friend I was dancing with and he got a hard on. It was pretty awkward later and it sucked for him because that's how I figured out he liked me and honestly, getting an erection isn't the classiest way of trying to get a girl and he knew it.
However, if I'm dancing with a guy and our relationship is already lusty and it's gets steamy, I'll probably understand. It won't effect me either way except to confirm what I already know. If I'm actually hot and bothered, only then will I get interested.
I'm hesitant about it because in some ways it's kind of disrespecting the girl. Unless she's rubbing her ass all over you and you're fairly sure she wants to jump your bones right then and there, I would try to not do it.

she never eats around me and our other friends. we never ever see her eat. she's constantly drinking coffee or tea or water or chewing mint gum or smoking. she always seems a little shaky or sleepy or vague. it seems like she's been losing weight. what could be going on? i'm really worried...help?
She has an eating disorder. You and one or two more friends need to go talk to her about it.
Dr Drew has a pretty good article on how to go about doing that > http://www.drdrew.com/Topics/article.asp?id=720

I'm in a really small university class (only 31 of us in my year of my program).
Lately I've had a really bad rough patch; I was helping one friend out of an abusive relationship, and another friend out of an accidental pregnancy, so that was stressing me out. Added on to this was the fact that I suffer from depression, I'm having serious financial issues, and I've been fighting a lot with my boyfriend (who I live with).
I've had one prof who has really been amazing. When I missed a lot of class, he e-mailed and even called, to make sure I was allright. He's copied out notes that I've missed for me, and he isn't holding my absence against me. He's been really concerned about me, and it's meant a lot to me.
I really want to do something nice for him, but I don't know what. He's in his fifties (I think) and he's a math professor.
The only problem is that I can't really spend much, so storebought gifts are pretty much out of the question.
Any ideas for what to do to thank a professor who goes far beyond his regular duties as an instructor?
I'd say make him food; cookies, tea cakes, anything. It'll really express your appreciation because he'll know how much work you put into it.
If you're in a stretch for time, something simple like flowers will do too.

i have a really suckish hair straightener and it never straightens it that well and i really want to get a super good hair straightener that'll make my hair SUPER straight. i heard some kind of chi straightener works really well and that they're expensive and all. if you could give me links to some good straighteners that'd be awesome. thankss! :]
The CHI iron is pretty amazing. I don't personally have it but I've used my friends and it is hands-down the best one out there.
Another straightener worth looking at is the Babyliss line. They're not as expensive as the CHI but pretty high up there anyway. You can check out their site here > http://www.babyliss.co.uk

I'm in love with a grown man, sometimes it feels as though he may like me too, but I can't do much about it because he's one of my teachers and I just found out he was married while overhearing a conversation he was having with someone else... he's never mentioned it to me... but I love him, and this hurts and being around him hurts and i can't stop thinking about him and he's such a sweet guy and we get along great.. i've tried avoiding him, but that messes up my whole day and I feel like shit. What can I do?
19/f
What can you do? You can find it in your heart to get over him and find someone else for yourself.
Seriously, look at it critically. There is a very very small chance that you two will end up together. He probably loves his wife and he may even have children. You don't want to be the other woman in that situation.
Figure out why you actually like him. What is it in him that attracts you to him? Maybe you're looking for mature men and because you can't find anyone who fits that criteria, you're looking towards him. Find out what traits you're looking for in a guy, use him as a base model and when you go out trying to meet guys, keep that model in mind. You should learn from this experience.
Before going out into the world, give yourself soem recovery time to get over him. You don't want to repress all your feelings for him because eventually they'll burst.
You seem like a smart girl and I bet before you know it, you'll realize that you've moved on.

I'm a 19 year old girl.
I'm going to see The Phantom of the Opera on Saturday, and I'm really excited!
Thing is, I have no idea what to wear. I've been to the theatre before, but never to a more formal show like this... to give you an idea, I've seen Mamma Mia, Da Kink In My Hair, and Beauty and the Beast.
I have two different outfits that I could use;
1: Dress pants, nice tank top, 3/4 length heavy cotton jacket (kind of dressy)
OR
2: Black halter chiffon dress, knee length, with black shoulder scarf
If it helps at all, my boyfriend's wearing a black suit with a white shirt.
Thanks for your help!
I'd go with the dress especially since your boyfriend is wearing a suit. Usually people dress up for plays, not as much as they used to but it's still a little more formal.
And even if you do show up and no one else is wearing the dress, you can just be satisfied with the fact that you'll probably be the hottest lady sitting in the audience.

I was talking to my friends like an hour or more earlier and they were at one friends' house hanging out. Since they were going to leave his house soon, they told me they were going to another friend (he lives like 2 minutes walk away from me)to watch a movie and that they'd call me when they get there so i can go over. They told me they'd call me in 10 minutes but they didnt, so i called them like 5 minutes ago and they were like "oh yeah, we're watching the movie right now". They didnt even invite me or remember that they were suppose to call me or anything. Needless to say, Im annoyed and slightly hurt. I don't know if i have a right to be. There's like five of them and not one of them bothered calling me or asking me if i was coming over. My friend was like "Yeah we're watching the movie.. why are you calling us?" I didnt feel like explaining that I thought i was invited... apparently i wasn't? I dont know. So now I'm quite upset.. my question is do I have a right to be? Or am I just overreacting?
Yeah, of course you have a right to be upset, you thought they invited you out.
Tomorrow, just lightly be like, "so what went on yesterday, I thought you were gonna call me to come over?" if even that. Don't make a big deal out of though, unless it happends again.

I really want to know if I have ADD/ADHD....According to every online test I do..or it's likely that I do. My parents dont want to bring me to a phycologist. So how could I find out for sure?!?!?!
You should talk to a guidance counselor at school. They can point you to the right resources and might be able to help you get diagnosed properly.

okay so this boy that i have loved senc like pre k hates me now and I don’t know why well i think i do but I’m not sher cuse one night we were aiming and talking and then we got to talking about myspace pic's and he was all like you need pics of you in a bikini and i am so self conscious about the way I look and he was like no you'll look fine and then out of no were he became this person I had never seen b4 like he kept trying to presser me into taking the pics and i was like look don’t make me do this and now he blocked me on aim, deleted me off myspace and in school when ever we see each other we act like we never new each other and I hate it what do I do how can I fix this?? help me=[[
He likes you and he's really confused about it. He's angry at you because you won't take the pictures and he's angry at himself because he doesn't understand why he wants to see the pictures. He's acting like a jerk because that's how hormonal guys are.
You should just talk to him and tell him you're sorry you made him mad but you're just not comfortable in a bikini. Then if you have the guts, tell him you like him and ask him out because there's a very good chance he'll say yes.

theres a song By eminem called Just Lose It and in it it goes
"whats your name girl? whats your sign?"
what does that mean??????????????
i tried Urban Dictionary but they dont know what it means
It's a cliched pickup line guys use as an icebreaker, i.e.
"Do you come here often?"
"Where abouts do you live?"
"What's your sign?"
So actually, they don't care if you're a leo. Some guys may ask because they want to judge your personality type but for the most part, they just want to talk to you.

okay so ive had sex for the 5th time already. the first time was march the 5th okay. well we did it twice that night. then a day after we did it 3 more times. and it still really hurts and im not getting any pleasure. can u please tell me whats wrong or should i see a doctor i mean what should i do? what could it be?
You need a break. When you first have sex, you should give yourself at least half a week so you won't feel so sore. It'll also get you body to start getting used to the fact that you're going to be sexually active.
After that, when you decide to have sex. Make sure you're relaxed and are turned on so you have enough lubrication going on. Take is slow and be considerate of your body.
I wouldn't be having rough sex until at least two weeks from now. I actually don't know how you can still walk :)

Where can I buy vintage pins like this, http://i21.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/8f/ff/1333_2.JPG
They can be of anyone, I just need to know some places to get them. Thank you.
I'd say you'll probably only find it online but other than that, your best bet would be the Salvation Army or make your way down to a consignment/thrift store. You could also try advertising on www.craigslist.org to see if anyone in your area has any.

I like this senior boy and im a freshman. We just spoke and now i am wondering if hell say hi to me the next time he sees me!! Like we spoke and alghed, it was me and my friend and him. it wasnt anything special but it happened!! i dont no what to do to get closer being that popularity is a main thing and he svery ang im but a meir freshman!!! hopefuly hell say hii!!! what do i say? i wanna talk to him more, but not be to needy and not make to much small talk!!!!
I wouldn't jump on him, if I were you but next time you see him, just smile or say hi. Don't ever lose that. When you're walking by the hallway, the least you should do is nod at him.
After that, it's up to him because you don't want to look dumb. Being a freshman = being vunerable so you need to protect yourself.

what is oral sex? and what is cumming and wanking?
Oral sex is a form of foreplay where one partner goes down on the other one (i.e. a blowjob)
Cumming is an orgasm. Wanking is usually when boys masturbate (sometimes can refer to girls).
I don't know if this will help you, but maybe you should check out www.urbandictionary.com

Windows:
You know how there's the address bar, and when you start typing, a drop down list will appear under the address bar? Well i went onto a nasty site a while ago, and its on the drop down menu. is there any way i could get it off?
First of all, click the clock on the top of your browser button until a screen on the left opens. Open the icon for "today", find the site and delete it.
If that doesn't work, you're going to have to delete your entire history so take the following steps until it goes away:
1. Tools > Internet Options > History > Clear History
2. Tools > Internet Options > Content > Personal Information > Autocomplete... > Clear Forms and Clear Passwords
3. Tools > Internet Options > Temporary Internet Files > Delete Cookies
4. Tools > Internet Options > Temporary Internet Files > Delete Files
---
Ok, I guess your browser doesn't support that. So to reach that screen, instead of clicking the clock button go:
View > Explorer Bar > History
or do it the keyboard way:
Ctrl+H
