Hello! I am studying esthetics at an Aveda Institute after spending years in retail. I am proof that nothing turns out how you think it will, and that's a good thing. When you think you've got it figured out, you don't. Life would be boring otherwise, right?
Makeup, skincare, and psychology are my passions and I'm also happy to give advice on relationships, particularly for teenagers (so many things I wish I could have told myself a decade ago!) I'm happy to help fellow abuse survivors as well.

I'm getting braces and i want to be prepared b/c my friend told me that they hurt the second day that i get them on. And i want to know what i should do if they start to hurt!

Had eight years of braces, they really don't hurt all that bad.

Buy some wax (in dental section of drugstores, etc) in case they poke, and have advil and soft foods ready. (smoothies, applesauce, yogurt, soup, etc).

Theres this guy at work that I really like but I'm kind of shy and don't really know how to get a conversation going with him, and plus, I don't know for sure that he is single. Does anyone know a subtle way to find out if he is seeing anyone?

Best thing to do is start by talking to him about work- not like "isn't the ____ fascinating?" but like make a joke about it or ask him something.
A good way to find out if he's single...mention a girlfriend.
Like, let's say...i don't know, he admits that he, say, loves shopping. (Not realistic, i know, but go with it)
You say, "Really? Your girlfriend must love that."
Then if he's not single, he says "yeah, we go shopping all the time".
If he is, "Actually, I don't have one."
Which leads to more conversation ("Really? I can't believe the only straight male shopper on the face on the planet hasn't been snapped up yet") and is a hell of a lot less awkward than directly asking him.

i want my hair and body to smell like vanilla. Is it safe to put vanilla extract in my hair when i'm shampooing/conditioning? or will it cause a chemical reaction and bleach my hair or something
is it also safe to put some im my bath?

I wouldn't do it. It's mostly alcohol so you might end up smelling weird, and alcohol dries out your skin and hair.
Try Victoria's Secret Vanilla Lace, smells amazing.

Why do people drink if it tastes so bad?

I personally think it tastes disgusting, like I'm drinking some sort of household cleaner. Do they just not care and suck it up I guess?

Well, some people actually like the taste. Some people like getting drunk.

I used to drink a lot. Just quit two weeks ago. And my reasons were more that I would drink when I was bored or pissed off. Which pretty much ended up in my being drunk every day. I didn't mind the taste. The scary thing is that the more you drink straight vodka the more it tastes like water. Barely notice it now.

Also, people drink because they think it makes you more social and fun to be around.

im going to the movies with the guy i like. its not really a date. me and my bedt friend were like hey we should hang so we decided on the movies. but we both like each other and we know it. and we both have been saying we need to hang. and im not really suure on what to wear. i dont want to look like a whore. or look like a 12 year old girl. im 16 if tht helps. some ideas would be great. and tips for anything as in flirting and dating.

Well, dress like you would with your friends, then make it a little nicer.

Like, usually with friends I'd wear a babydoll cami with jeans, flats, and maybe a cropped sweater.
So for a half-date(lol) I would wear the cami, jean, heels, and earrings.

My family is going to the movies this weekend and I was wondering which movie is better for little kids? I know Iron Man is in the lead in the box office but I was wondering which would keep him more occupied watching it?

Iron Man is definitely not a kids movie.

Speed Racer is really trippy (colorful, etc) so he'll definitely be more occupied.

idk if this was really in the right category but.. it has to do with clothes. anyways - my prom is in 4 days and i was planning on risking it and not wearing underwear. i just didnt want any lines while i was wearing my dress and i didnt want my boyfriend to feel anything while we are dancing and stuff, you know?

problem is that i just got my period soooo, any suggestions on what i should do now?

I've had pretty good skin up until this year, a little more acne and my skin's splotchier. I'm SUPER fair, also. I need help figuring out what products to get.

Acne isle- What face washes/cleansers should I get to clear up my acne and would make my complexion better?

Cosmetics- What foundation (I like powder foundations) could I get that would hide my imperfections without making me look like a porcelain doll? I used to use this product-http://www.beautyrose.com/pressedpowder.html
and it did the perfect job but it's a little too expensive.

Try L'oreal Bare Naturale makeup. There's concealer, foundation, glow, blush, and finishing veil, but obviously you don't have to do all that.
The concealer is absolutely amazing. I'd recommend that with either the foundation or finishing powder (finisher if you feel like your skin is oily). Evens your skin out and makes it look amazing.

You'll feel a lot better if you look decent. I take a six hour trip every summer to New Jersey and having worn everything from a suit to PJs I've found somewhere in the middle works best.

I like wearing a casual sundress, cropped sweater, and flip flops or flats.

Wear shoes that can be taken off easily for security (probably not flats since they can make your feet smell).

i have my prom coming up in 2 weeks & a day i just cuts my nails yesterday because they were horrendous not realizing prom is 2 weeks away being stupid.. but now i want them to grow really long are there any ways i can do this in 2 weeks ? help ASAP!

You could also try getting french tips. It costs the same as a manicure, looks amazing, and lasts a lot longer than nail polish.

ok so people told me that all 3 of the presidential candidates are Christian but (not trying to offend anyone here) how can you be a Democrat and a Christian?? Democrats are for stem cell research (using developing babies for science!! thus killing them, etc.) and they are for abortion (basically murdering a baby) and they are ok with gay unions and marriages and such. i mean those things definitely go against God!! its right there in the Bible!! im NOT trying to offend im just truly puzzled by how they can support this when it is so clearly not the wish of God. thank you :)

My auntie's brownies group is going away on a trip and she asked me to help out. Their having a happy potter themed fancy dress party on the first night and I've been told I have to dress up lol but I dont know who to go as.

I'm in a business class where part of our grade is to run the school store. We do it during lunch periods, so we can't sell food because we aren't allowed to "compete with the cafeteria" as our principal says.

So far, we've come up with paper notebooks, pens, pencils, cheap nailpolish, index cards, and cap erasers. We give away paw-print stickers with every purchase (our mascot is a bulldog). We can't sell school-spirit items because that's what our student council/leadership committee does... it's their territory. Other than food and school-spirit items, we can sell anything.

Other ideas I've come up with but have yet to tell my teacher:

Mini handsanatizer, tissues, 5-stick packs of gum (people are ALWAYS asking me for those).

I guess I'm asking is other suggestions. If you have a school store, what items sell the most? If you don't - what would you buy if you did?

At the end of the semester, we're donating our profits to Habitat for Humanity (each year our school chooses a cause and any money we raise goes to it).

I would love if my school sold:

- Gum (orbit specifically)
- Mirror compacts
- Lip Smackers or chapstick
- Batteries
- Hair ties and headbands
- Binder paper
- Magazines
- Coin purses
- Body spray/mini bottles of perfume
- Travel size items like hairspray and brushes
- Crystal Light

How do I add money - wages, etc, into my bank account?

Also if employers pay their employess through their bank accounts? how do they do it? what do they need to be able to add money to your account.

You would deposit money into your account, probably using a deposit slip, or cash a check into your account.

Most employers offer direct deposit, which is what you're talking about. You give them your account number, and they automatically deposit the money in your account on payday. It's a lot more convenient.
