why do people drink?
Why do people drink if it tastes so bad?
I personally think it tastes disgusting, like I'm drinking some sort of household cleaner. Do they just not care and suck it up I guess?

Everyone's pallete is different.
Example, I hate beer. It all tastes disgusting, even the really good micro brewed kinds.
But I love liquor. A good tequila, bourbon, or rum, on ice or with a good mixer, is always enjoyable.
I can tell you one thing, if you're on this site asking this I'm willing to bet you're under 21. In my experience, people under 21 buy really crappy liquor. Skol and everclear were pretty common as I remember, and yeah those both taste absolutely terrible.
Thats what happens when you're young and poor and underage. You get the tablescraps. Not that I'm encouraging you to drink them.

Some people actually like the taste and others drink it to be cool. Sometimes people even just do it to get drunk so they don't remember the stress in their life. Drinking is not a good idea. It only causes problems. Hope I helped =]]]]

Well, some people actually like the taste. Some people like getting drunk.
I used to drink a lot. Just quit two weeks ago. And my reasons were more that I would drink when I was bored or pissed off. Which pretty much ended up in my being drunk every day. I didn't mind the taste. The scary thing is that the more you drink straight vodka the more it tastes like water. Barely notice it now.
Also, people drink because they think it makes you more social and fun to be around.

Well I drink..and here are my reasons.
+ Beer. Some beers are nice, some are not...I just love the taste(of the good ones)
+ The randomness when you're drunk
+ I have a high alcohol tolerance level, so I can drink a lot, and still not be drunk
+ Vodka. I can mix it with a lot of drinks and it tastes amazing
Basically, I enjoy the taste of most alcohols, and it's just some people's opinion that it tastes horrible and such :P

Personally, I defeintely don't drink, but there are a ton of reasons people actually do it, regardless of it's icky taste.
-It's a social thing. Not to say it's a bandwagon thing, so much as if the people around you are doing it, it seems more fun.
-To simply get drunk--regardless as to whether it be to forget something, or just have fun, to get drunk.
-It seems like a sign of maturity. Some people drink to show those around them that they CAN.
-Some also do it to keep up with others around them. To prove they can hold alchohol--this is something that usually happens more with females.
Basically, the taste isn't what attracts people, it's the affects.

I drink with different mixers (any type of fizzy drink/apple or orange juice tastes best in my opinion). It gives it a kick whilst tasting nice at the same time.
I don't like the taste of some things so I just flat out don't drink them.
Everyone is different.
Some people drink to be sociable, some people drink just for the hell of it.

the taste can be hidden if its in a mixed drink (like juice and Vodka) or other people just like the taste

well once you've gotten use to it, its actually not that bad. its an acquired taste. you have to be able to find the part of it that tastes good. and i'm assuming you've never drank household cleaner, so you can't exactly compare that to it. besides, even if it doesn't taste good, its all about the feeling you get after, so yes, most people do just suck it up.
