about

I've been away for a while due to a serious illness and subsequent health issues.

Favourite quotes of the moment:

The children of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years - Even in biblical times men wouldn't ask for directions!

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. whatever we do to the thread, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. - Chief Seattle.

We spend the first 12 months of a child's life teaching them to walk and talk. We spend the next 12 years telling them to sit down and shut up!

As you slide down the bannisters of life, may the splinters never be pointing the wrong way.

May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

I've been very happily married since August 1980 to a wonderful man and have beautiful twin girls, now aged 31. Both are married to wonderful young men and one of our girls has recently made us grandparents to a beautiful, smart and feisty granddaughter. I studied geology with the Open University. I am retired from being a manager in a large UK based insurance company which I actually quite enjoyed. (How sad is that?). I love anything to do with the environment and wildlife and try to do my bit for preservation and conservation. I would like there to be a decent world for our grandchildren to inherit. I also have CFS so find life a bit of a challenge at times but always hope for better health in the future.

I have a deep interest in the spiritual and the paranormal worlds, having experienced several incidents myself, and have been involved in meditation groups and groups that (safely) explore the paranormal. There is more to this life than we would normally credit, so an open mind is always the best option. You're not so likely to get caught by surprise!

I have a deep fascination for anything to do with Ancient Egypt, as you can probably tell by my name. I have statues and paintings all around the house. As my hubby has a similar interest in Native Americans, we tend to have a lot of unusual wall decorations, like a tomahawk.

I love cars, especially vintage ones, but my all time favourite has to be the Bugatti Chiron, what a car!

I have had a lot to do with animals over the years. I have fostered many, helped to set up a wildlife charitable hospital and raised a diverse range of young animals from bats to fox cubs and different species of birds, even a baby deer! I have had great pleasure in sharing my life and home with a number of animals over the years, most of them rescues. I am currently sponsoring an Amur Tiger, they are such beautiful cats and desperately need help, there are so few of them left. I was lucky enough a couple of years ago to meet some Aye-Aye's and Livingstone's Bats, a truly wonderful experience. We now have three cats, Oliver and Mollie, a brother and sister, he's a ginger and she's a tortoiseshell and a black and white called Daisy. She arrived in a taxi and was left on our doorstep in a cat carrier with the message that 'they knew we loved cats and would be good to her'. She has settled down well and gets on wonderfully with the other two.

If you have a pet that is showing ANY signs of illness or distress, please, please, please take it to a vet! Even if finance is an issue, work that out later. It is cruel to leave an animal suffering for any reason. Most animals do not show signs of illness until they have been ill for some time, basic instinct tells them it is a display of vulnerability, and certain death in the wild. Their instincts have not caught up with domesticity.

I do feel that we should all treat others as we would wish to be treated. Bad karma comes back to haunt us.

advice

Hey iam 17 and I get a dissability check becouse I have add which is attention defficince disorder and Iam getting a special ed diploma and I wanted an afterschool job,but iam afraid i'll lose my check is it possible for me to lose my check if I get an after school job?

You need to ask advice from whoever sends the cheque, they will probably need to know anyway if you do get a job. They will have come across this query many times before so don't worry about asking them.
If it is likely to affect your money, you will need to decide if it is then worth having a job, especially if you are still in school and need to study. There will be plenty of time for a job later on if it is going to impact your cheque.
Hope that helps and good luck.

okay i twisted my ankle a few months ago. i was wondering, what other damages can you do to your ankle?? i can walk/run on it but i use an ace bandage when i run just incase. im getting it checked out soon, but it's weird. when i walk it doesn't hurt, but when i move it in any direction it does. its sore, extremely swollen, and a bit discolored. what could i have done to it that i can still walk on it?? i mean, if it's broken you wouldn't be able to, so what are my other options??

thanks!!

You could have damaged a tendon or the soft tissue. Both of these can happen if you twist your ankle. It is very unlikely you have broken it if you are still able to walk on it, unless you have fractured the cuboid bone, (in the middle of the ankle). This is very difficult to diagnose as it does not show up too well on x-rays. You can also still just about walk with this injury but it is painful and hard to break with just a twisted ankle. You do need to have it checked out, as some injuries need to be rested and some need to be used in order for them to recover successfully. You also may need physiotherapy. Damaged ankles can very painful and take quite a while to heal.
Hope that helps and good luck for an early recovery.

i don`t know if i`m obsessive compulsive , but maybe , i always have to have like even numbers of things and like everything i do has to be like evened out , i`m really crazy about having everything even . can someone tell me if that`s kind of obsessive compulsive or am i just not normal . lol ..

It could be OCD, do you get very agitated if something is not even, as this is one of the symptoms? Is there anything else worrying you at the moment that could cause you to feel this way?
If you are that concerned you should see a doctor, they would be able to diagnose you correctly and if you do have OCD arrange for suitable treatment to help. If you are really worried about this I would suggest seeing a doctor as soon as you can, as the longer you leave it the more stressed you are going to get.
Hope that helps and good luck.

This question doesn't even relate to the Rolling Stones, but you've seen their tops; they have the tongue!
My realy question is, can you roll your tongue?
I want to survey how many people can and can't. Answer this if you can or can not.
If you are an 'expert', can you tell me how? How long does it take?
I'm taking Spanish 1: Do you need to roll your tongue?

Thanks so much!
Anything will help; and you might get a points!

I can roll my tongue but I'm not sure if it's something you can learn how to do. You've either got it or you haven't. If you can't, blame your parents! :)

hi, has anyone on here ever gone from total unsatisfaction to loving their lives and not wanting to trade their memories for anything in the world?? what was it that made that change? new awesome friends? a bf/gf? some kind of amazing experience?

what changed your outlook on life?

I was having a pretty awful time of things, then I met my husband, had my kids and got some animals. Sounds corny, yes, but it did it for me and I've never regretted it.

I have a problem with my cat.

We feed him a sachet of food in the morning, leave some biscuits down for the day and give him another sachet of food in the evening. This is normally enough for him. When we first got him, I checked with the vet, who agreed this was adequate.

The problem is that over the last few weeks in particular, he seems to be starving all the time. He's getting into our kitchen and living room bins and dragging old empty sachets and leftover food out of them! He even took out two pieces of garlic bread during the night and ate most of them!

I'm worried there might be something wrong that is increasing his appetite. There don't appear to be any other symptoms so maybe it's just seasonal. I'm not sure.

I will take him to the vet but I thought I would ask to see whether anyone could suggest what might be wrong as there's no point putting him through going to the vet if it's likely to be normal!

It could be worms, he should be wormed every three months. You could check for white flecks that look like grains of rice in his poo. They would be portions of tape worm.
It may be that if he is a young active cat that likes to roam the neighbourhood, he is using more energy and subsequently getting hungrier.
There is also a possibility that his thyroid gland is overactive. If it is, tests and tablets from the vet will sort this out.
Try a worming tablet/course first, if you're still concerned take him to the vet.
Hope that helps and good luck.

i think i have this asthma problem but i am not sure if it really is asthma or something similar.

reasons why i think this: i'm overweight but i eat fairly healthy; i love fruit and dairy products; and i exercise daily, in total of an hour a day (with slow exercises and at a steady pace). but everytime i run a short distance, even walking, i start breathing so hard it's difficult for me to inhale. i stay out of breath for a miniumum of 3 minutes and a maximum of 5 minutes.

and even when going up just ONE short flight of stairs (like 5-7 steps) I breathe soo hard and so loud. in gym when running just one small lap around the gym i felt like i was gonna pass out because of my breathing.

is this asthma? some kind of lung/cardiovascular problem? or from being overweight? please give an answer with an explaination with some suggestions. thank you =)

If you wake up coughing at night, there is a good chance you do have asthma. The best thing really is to get yourself checked by a doctor. Particularly if this is a sudden, recent occurrence. If it is asthma, it has the potential to be life threatening, but that's usually only if it's serious and not being managed correctly. If it is due to a different health problem, again, the doctor is the best person to see about it.
I would always recommend seeking medical advice if there is any doubt about a health issue, as if there is a problem, the sooner you are seen the more chance there is of dealing with it.
Hope that helps and good luck.

What is the type of English accent that is used in the Peter Pan movies? Cockney? Also, if you know which one it is-is there a good site that would tell me the characteristics of it and how to speak it?

There are so many English accents, not a standard one. In the film there are accents from different areas. Also different regions have different pronunciations on words, so it would be hard to advise how to speak it. Even the news channels don't have the traditional 'BBC' voice now.
I would tend to agree with the previous advice, just listen to as many English accents on TV as you can, it is easier to copy an accent you hear than trying to follow directions on a website.
Just a note, Dick Van Dyke does NOT do a good cockey accent in Mary Poppins, and we do not all speak with BBC or cockney accents.
Hope that helps and good luck.

hi, i was just wandering how much a small animal would cost? i live in the uk, and there are only 2 shops that sell live stock. one only sells birds and the other sells fish, small animals, and birds. the first is really crappy and in poor condition. the other is really good, and big. i was just wandering how much a small animal like rats, hamsters, gerbils will cost? also, how long can a fish live in a plastic bag for(with water obviousely) thanks. please answer back because i need to know by wednesday. thanks in advance

Never buy from a pet shop that is in poor condition and the animals look unhealthy. Report them instead.
The cost of small mammals can vary according to whether you have a common type or a specialist breed. Generally though, you would be looking at £5-£10. You also need to keep in mind suitable caging and toys as they tend to be very active and rats in particular are very intelligent so need to have things to occupy them. Food also needs to be considered in the pricing.
As to the fish, it's best to not leave them in a plastic bag for any longer than the time it takes to transport them and acclimatise them to the water in their new home. If you need to keep them in a plastic bag, depending on the size of the bag, you will to open it every couple of hours to allow more air in or they may die.
Hope that helps and good luck.

hi,i know this is long, but you'll be helping innocent creatures instead of me. well today i went in to a pet shop that i have only ever been to once before. i never knew that they sold livestock, untill i heard biirds chirping for the first time. i went over and saw wide but short cages holding birds. first i saw somethings called a "rainbow pennat rosera" or something along those lines. it had a medium cage but was all puffed up, and it actually looked really dirty, like it had been rolling in dry dirt, and its feathers were all puffed up. i dont know if they are supposed to look like that as ive never seen (or heard of) that breef before. next i saw budgie, about 10 of them in 1 cage, it was maybe 3 feet wide and really short. next i saw about 5-8 cockatiels in the same type of cage. the bird would have hit its head on the top if the perch was any higher. i dont know if these are signs of a bad shop, but they seem pretty bad. is there anything i can do for these creatures who deserve a better home? my friend thought of a really crazy idea, where he records the birds on his phone and if they tell us not to record, they are hiding something. should we try it? also i thought i would add that there was a healthy looking green parrot on the counter, that was chirping away. do you think that they put the 1 healthy bird in a big cage at the front so people think its of high standards?

You could try contacting your local RSPCA branch, but they don't always act if there is 'evidence of food and water'. You could also contact your local council, they may be able to do something as licences have to be granted in order to sell livestock. Another option if these fail is to speak to a local wildlife organisation and newspaper. The paper might be interested in covering this if any of the others want to act on your information. If your friend is able to record evidence, this may help with any possible prosecution, as quite often, if the RSPCA decide to visit premises, they notify the shop first, this gives them time to clean up.
'Puffed up' birds are not well or happy and the cages should not be dirty. Budgies and cockatiels like company but the size of their cages sound far too small for that number.
It's an old trick to display a healthy bird to give the appearance of high standards. I would say most definitely try to do something about this, even if you're not successful, at least you will know you have tried.
Hope that helps and the best of luck to you.

Are there any foods that are impossible to get food poisonign from, and foods that are really hard to get it from? If you could list them in two different categories that would be great. :]
Thanks!

It is possible to get food poisoning from any food, either directly or indirectly.
Directly would be due to things like being past the expiration date, not cooked properly, not refrigerated at the correct temperature, defrosting and freezing again etc. Indirectly would be through cross contamination, so a food that would not normally be associated with food poisoning, eg fruit or vegetables, coming into contact with a contaminant like uncooked chicken.
If you want to avoid getting food poisoning, always ensure that you wash your hands before touching food, after touching raw meat and before touching anything else, it is also a good idea to have separate (and different coloured) chopping boards for raw meat, and food that does not need to be cooked. Always check expiry dates, ensure food is cooked correctly and hot all the way through, no blood visible in 'danger' meats, like chicken or pork, keep raw meat on the lower shelves of a fridge and cooked meats above, NEVER the other way round. Make sure the fridge is at the correct temperature. Never allow something to defrost and then refreeze, particularly important with meat, fish and icecream. Never defrost, cook, then refreeze, then reheat anything. Always follow manufacturers guide lines for cooking food. Wash fruit and vegetables before eating them, particularly salad items.
If you go abroad, always follow the health and safety advice for that country.
Hope that helps.

Ok, i hope you all understand how hard(as in embarrassing) for me this is to ask, but i dont have any other option really. one of my nipples has gotten all hard and dark, kind of like a scab. im really scared, is this a disease that could really affect me? or just some infection that could go away. i already told my mom, and she said we'd go to the doctor next month, because we're quite busy these days. im 16/f if that helps. i have no idea wat this could be. so if anyone could tell me wat it is, thx.

thx a lot. and please, no stupid comments to make me feel scared or stuff like "you're gross"

If you're that scared, don't wait a month to see a doctor, you'll have a horrible time stressing for four weeks. See a doctor as soon as you can. It may be nothing but on the off chance it isn't, the sooner you see a doctor, the sooner something can be done about it. If it's nothing, at least your mind will be put at rest.
Hope that helps and good luck.

Hi there. This is the first time asking advice like this. First let me start by saying. I am a 31 years old man.

now for my problem.

I have been with the same woman for 12-13 years. we have had 2 children together, one of whom passed away last year and the other that was just born this year. Lately we've been going throughsome rough times. She has been playing with my emotions. A virtual rollercoaster ride. One day i try to cuddle get intimate, and she'll say "We shouldn't do this" the next she's kissing me pationately. The problem i have, is that i have feelings for her how ever dwindled that they are, while exhibiting feelings for another woman. One who has captivated me over the last few weeks.

My issue is i don't feel that the relationship i am in is going anywhere. but with my new born baby i am kind of in a bind. thus my title. I am torn between 2 loves. Or three if you add in my newborn.

please help me figure out what i should do.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, there is nothing more difficult to bear than the passing of a child.
How have you and your partner been dealing with this? Have you both had bereavement counselling? If not, perhaps you should consider this. It sounds as though your partner is still having tremendous problems with your loss. Maybe she feels that having lost a child she is not entitled to be happy, which is why she reacts the way she does. If she in some way also feels guilty for the loss, even if there was absolutely nothing you or she could have done, guilt is going to be a natural reaction, she may be thinking she is betraying the lost child by being happy for a while. There will be other times when her natural passion for you will temporarily over ride these feelings, then she could feel bad about them again.
It is a perfectly natural reaction on your part to look for an escape from all this, as you too, must have been through a truly terrible ordeal.
You need to ask yourself, with the history you and your partner have between you, whether your feelings for this other woman are the real thing, or is it that you are just having trouble coping with your current situation. You do need to take into account the baby of course, but if you eventually decide that there is no way back for you and your partner, any difficulties between you will have an effect on the child. It is not always the best thing to stay together for this reason.
I would suggest marriage counselling as well as bereavement therapy, as there are a lot of issues here and the happiness of several people involved. Please don't make any rash decisions until you have tried all other options. It is very difficult to go back when you have made such a life changing decision.
I hope that helps and I wish you all the very best of luck.

How would i meditate? oh and how do you know so much about this? Give me a site if it is online.

I have been meditating for many years and have been involved in a 'spiritual' way of living for around the same length of time. I have read many books and attended a lot of courses. I am a qualified healer and I also do tarot, numerology, crystal therapy and I make crystal jewellery. I have also held meditation sessions. Just to add, tarot is not 'evil' it is an ancient method of divining, numerology was devised by Pythagoras the Greek mathematician and philosopher and crystal therapy is also well rooted in history.
Successful meditating is not something you will be able to achieve overnight, it takes time to learn how to clear your mind and find a tranquil space within you. Gentle meditation music can help, it's something you would need to try.
I would recommend that if you have never done this before, to find a local group to join. If there are any new age shops near you, they should have details of these. A beginner meditating alone will no control whilst they are 'away', so it is best to have someone overseeing a group to ensure that the space is kept clear of any lower entities. I say this only to warn you that it is possible for a novice to be vulnerable. Your safety is very important.
Successful meditating gives you a calmness and a confidence to deal with the everyday frustrations of modern day living and a good starting point if you want to go on to explore other spiritual avenues. However, if you do go on to try other things, you MUST always do all of this for the greater good. At all times remember - Harm to None. A spiritual life is one of love and helping others.
Some recommended books to read would be the James Redfield series of books called the Celestine Prophecies. They will give you a further insight.
I have included some on line sites to give you more information, but it is really trial and error to find the right method for you. Meditation is now so popular some corporate companies run courses for their executives to destress them.

All the steps say is to charge your physical body with energy. it does not say anything about what kind of energy.

Ok, let's assume it's spiritual energy, not muscle balancing you need and go for the Chakras first.
Chakra is Sanskrit for wheel and there are seven main ones:
Muladhara - Red - Base, which is where the sexual organs are, representing energy, sensation, sex, fear and anger.
Swadhistana - Orange - Sacral area, this is where the reproductive organs are, representing socialiability and ambition.
Manipura - Yellow - Solar Plexis, this is across the stomach and diaphram area, representing thoughts, intellect and change.
Anahata - Green or Pink - Heart area, this is for security, the vital force within us all, possession, jealously and power.
Vishuddha - Sapphire Blue - Throat, communication, mental conceptions, authority and reverence.
Ajna - Indigo Blue - Third Eye (Forehead), intuition, sensitivity, envy or admiration.
Sahasrara - Violet - Crown, imagination, shame, wonder, connection to the spirit world.
Although this is just one view of the Chakras, as with most things, opinions can and do vary.
Now having explained the basis, there are a few ways to charge yourself with energy.
The simplest is to wear red on the red chakra, this should not be done for more than an hour or two as it could then provoke the negativity of anger or jealousy.
Another way is ensure that all the chakras are balanced, as if any of them aren't, it could cause energy leakage, like holes in a bottle. This would need to be tested by someone experienced in this field, but as a quick test, if you have problems in any of these areas, or the emotions connected to these areas, it usually means you have a 'leak'.
Another, simpler way, is to find a quiet space, where you can meditate. If you are able to do this, you could visualise golden energy falling on you like soft rain, filling you up from feet to head, through all the chakras. You then feel the power of the energy radiating out from you, with a tremendous sense of well being, and calmness. This may not happen the first few times you try it, like most things it needs practice.
If it's kinetic energy you're after, I've enclosed a couple of web sites that may help.

http://www.starstuffs.com/articles/telekinesis.html

http://home.xtra.co.nz/hosts/Wingmakers/Kinesis%20Abilities.html

http://experts.about.com/e/p/ps/Psi_Abilities.htm

At all times I would urge caution particularly if trying any of these methods on your own or if you are inexperienced. A good solid protection is always a good idea.
Hope that is of some help, and good luck.

Does anyone know how to charge your physical body with energy? If so please let me know as soon as you can.

Do you mean charging your chakras with energy, or removing blocks to energy or charging your aura?
There are different methods for doing all of these, so with a bit more information on what the problem is and in what way you want to try to charge it I can give you some suggestions.

i asked the question about turtles, but the thing is it would be the miniature turtles that are only about 1 inch big.

so would they be alright in a fishtank? becuase the fish are about 1 inch big too

Aside from the possibility of when the turtles grow they may try to take bites out of the fish, there is still the problem of terrain. Fish need an all water environment and turtles need a place to land. It may look cute having them all together, but you would want them all to be happy wouldn't you?
The web sites I gave you earlier gives you all the pros and cons for mixing the two species. If you need any further advice, try a local reptile/aquarium specialist. They may be able to give you some more pointers.
Hope that helps.

i have a fish tank (a 10 gallon with little fish like guppies and goldfish and kissing fish)

so, i was wondering, could turtles live in there or not?

The turtles would possibly eat smaller fish. The other problem is that turtles need a land area, fish don't. However I have included a couple of web sites that can give you more information.

Is there any way to make your nose look smaller, like with makeup or something?

If you want to give the impression of a slightly smaller nose, you could use foundation and blusher to contour down the sides of it. You could use two different colour foundations for this, or one foundation and a blusher.
If your nose is narrow at the top and with wider nostrils, you could sweep the colour round the nostrils and on the tip. If your nose is long, just add a touch of contour around the tip.
If you are used to wearing make up every day, you could balance the contouring on your nose by doing the same to your jaw and/or under your cheek bones, this should really enhance the shape of your face.
Another trick is to highlight along the bridge of your nose, going from the top of it out in a triangle to your temples, where the light hits your face naturally.
All this will need practice and the honest opinion of someone you trust so that you know you've got it right. It is not easy, but generally worth the effort.
You could also have a chat to a hair stylist to find out what hairstyle would be the most flattering to your features.
Hope that helps, good luck.

Okk so my dad booked a european cruise for us and i'm really nervous because of what recently amost happened in london. Now i'm even more nervous because we're flying to London as one of our first flights. I'm so nervous! I'm always nervous of plains even though I fly to australia every summer! Is there any way to make me less nervous?

I'm flying out of London in 9 days so I understand what you mean. However, try to keep in mind that Heathrow is the busiest airport in the world and very well guarded. So too is Gatwick etc. As these people discovered it is not easy to slip past the security systems they have in place. There are even more security checks going on now, so in theory it is even safer to fly in/out of these airports at the moment.
Please try not to let this stop you from enjoying this fantastic trip in front of you. Europe is an amazing place and well worth the visit. Make sure you have things to occupy yourself and if necessary, it is possible to get some herbal calmers, but I would suggest you check with your doctor first.
Hope that helps and have a great time.
