my mom has a REALLLLYYY old microwave that doesnt stop making that.. cooking noise that microwaves make even if you open it. i dont know if when i open it and get my stuff out if its like.. hurting me or not. i have like a brandnew really high tech one.. i dont know if they both have the same likliness of hurting me or what? its not a very common concern cause i cant find a whole bunch on it.. so any bit would be helpful

Microwave ovens are safe. The Microwave (it's name says it all) is a short, intense wave. A microwave is not strong enough to cause the cells in your body to divide abnormally but can hurt you if you could some how stick your body into one. You could always test the site on your own computer. If it's a static web page then it's no problem. Static basically means your pages does not need to communicate with a server in a complicated way. If you are using a text editor like notepad, just save your HTML files with a .html extension. If, you are running scripts you can still test it on your PC. I've been using this "testing server app" since 2003, it's called The Uniform Server found at:
http://www.uniformserver.com It has lots of features and add-ons and you can even go "live" with it, if you wanted to. This will allow you to install scripts and test them out before showing the world.

Is it okay to put the car in park or neutral at a red light ?
LOL yeah it ok, ok as in it wont hurt your car. Well, it'll slow you down a bit when you need to go, to shift back into gear. But it wont hurt the transmission. Why? Is the car stalling? I'd put into neutral. When you shift into park, from shifting from drive to park, you pass reverse and you're backup lights will come on briefly. It could possibly frighten the driver behind you.

So i want to get my belly button peirced and i have a few questions.

hi! im planning on transferring to a public college in illinois. i currently don live in illinois and i attend college in my home state. but i was wondering how long i would have to live there to get in state tuition? or if i go there and pay out of state tuition for one year, then the 2nd year commute from an apartment i buy in illinois, will i be able to get in state tuition?

You'd be better off if you asked them personally. They can give you all the juicy details. I attended a public university in Texas that was a few miles from a state line. We had folks go there from out of state but then again it's all to do with your ability to pay. For financial aid, the requirements vary college to college, state to state. You might want to consider looking in to a scholarship too. Ask the counselor what they have and if you qualify. Any amount would help if you are desperate enough to attend.

any good high schools there? im moving there next year cause my dad is making a business around there so we'll move there from hillsborough, new jersey. um im kinda nervous cause i want us to find a good school but a lot of high schools there are behind our curriculum (i go to hillsborough middle school now in 8th grade) and i dont want to go there and have to go to super super advanced classes. ugh why does texas have to be like that? i expected it to have a similar curicculum as it. and i dont want to be put in dumb classes either cause they dont have any good ones there. or any good private schools as well? with school websites too perhaps? and with good sports and sport teams? i play volleyball, soccer, and basketball btw. my dad's business like hes still making but its been going successful so we'll probably make a good amount of money if we have to go to private school. and do they all have uniforms? and ugly uniforms to boot? gross. any pics of these uniforms? and thanks. :) 13/f
Hey, I live in the DFW area (Dallas Fort Worth) I think you'll fit right in. The school you go to will depend on what district you live in. Private school is probably best, although I'm speaking from experience. I was a flunky until my folks put me in private school and there I made honor roll. However, you'll more than likely be required to wear a uniform. Also, certain schools will require you to wear a uniform but once again that depends on the district you are moving to. Knowing what I know about NJ (my best friend is from there) you'll not have a problem, other than your accent but folks here will get a kick out of it. Although, I sometimes have to ask my friend to repeat himself more than once. The biggest thing will be the shock of open space, long roads and few buildings. It's different here but most of us are friendly and welcome progress. I hope your dad succeeds in his venture and tell him I said, "good luck and welcome to Texas!"

I have a guy friend although we are not going out but in a friendship like hanging out. My girl friend told me not to keep in touch with him
because he dress like a grandpa but she was joking though. Well, i told him about the joke and so the next day he told me that he was waiting for a parking space for hr. and half. and some boy took his spot while he was waiting first. He got mad and came out of the car and said he get your dam car out of the my parking space. and that boy was rude and wouldnt so punched the car and almost got a fight with the boy was in his teen
but security came and told them both to leave. The teenager wanted to call the cops too. Anyway, he doesnt seem like that kind of person
and he told me he never lost his cool like that before. He told me was cuz he couldnt get his new cell phone and his credit card had some problems and he was thinking about what my friend had joke about him and affected our freindship which added up the anger. that same day of the fight was that i remember he asked me out but i made up 3-4 excusese not to go.
Well, i recall he also told me in the past he used to teach a kid esl and told me i have patience with seniors but not with kids. He made me mad and i gave him a lecture.
When we hungout last wk. He got a bit irritated when i talked about other guys and didnt walked
beside him and didnt want to sit down to have a drink together. He may sense that i dont really like him but i jsut treat him as a casual friend cuz we're not at that stage.

Sounds like he may have the potential for being violent. But what worries me, is why. He obviously feels vindictive for a reason. Maybe he was just having bad day that day. I know I can get angry sometimes at what I feel are inconsiderate, thinking they are the only ones alive people. Overall, I'm a good guy and would give the shirt off my back to you but I'm old-fashioned too. I believe opening the doors for the ladies and helping old folks out too. I'd dump him if he got violent with you or aggressive. If you "dig" him and he digs you then you'll not have to worry about anyone messing with you. However, if he tries to control you then take that as a warning.

Google indigoperl, you can run your perl program on apache on your desktop but make sure to "start" the service first, it's self explanatory. Works with Windows XP but not sure of other operating systems.

my dell laptop is broken.. like it kinda works but not really, the problem is with the hard drive. so i was wondering if i just got a new hard drive that is compatible with the laptop then everything will be like new? would that work? if not what should i do?
If you got a new drive and can install it, go for it. If you can't install it, take it to someone who knows how. It should run like it was when new. Just make sure you have an OS to put back on it.

I think my transmission is going bad in my car. I drive a 1999 ford taurus. I'm not too farmilar with transmissions in general but I'm pretty sure there's a problem with it. When I excelerate I notice there's a sound like my transmission just drop. Excelleration is the only time this happens but it happens almost always. How do I go about getting it checked? And how much are new transmissions? ( I assume a lot of money) But I'm in college so I need to know a good estimate. Any advice?
First off, I gonna need more info, what does it sound like, does it "lag" during brief moments of acceleration, like when passing? I don't understand what you mean by "drop" does it make like a clunking noise or something? Could be a few other issues rather than the transmission. Could be the fuel filter, fuel pump, or possible it just needs a tune up, plugs, wires, air filter etc... For a 1999 front wheel drive the transmission is not what's going to cost you, it'll be the labor with it. You'll be looking to spend anywhere from 800-1500 dollars depending on where you go, and yes it can vary that much, shop to shop. (we were quoted that for my brother's 98 Taurus 3.0lit) Hopefully it's something simple as a tune up and cheap too.

Okay, this is kind of a dumb question, but... How do you change the font on your column to be bigger, or bold, italic, etc.? I've been here for like ten months and still don't know how to do it. Thanks in advance. : )
Unfortunately, if you have a free account then you can not change the font size of the page. You'll need to upgrade to be able to do that. However, you can change the boldness and italics on your bio, located in "profile settings" and you can change the font color of links and text on your page and background color by going to "column settings."
By the way, I tried using BBC code and HTML to change the font size and it doesn't work but I did manage to change the boldness and the italics on my page.
The most common colors are
#000000 = black
#FFFFFF = white
#0000FF = blue
#FF0000 = red

I was born in Canada and English is the only language i can speak but it's been 16 years and sometimes when I talk, sometimes it's not clear to hear unless you're right beside me and in some occasions I have a bit of an accent. And even though I was born here, i always say "me and her" instead of "Her and I". Will I over overcome it or will it always be like that since I'm not caucasion?
I don't think being white has anything to do with it. I'm half Navajo Indian and I've lived in Texas all my life so, I've got a southern draw. (yee haa) My best friend is from New Jersey and he is 38 but moved to Texas at 16, he still has an accent and every so often I've got to ask him to repeat himself. It's annoying on both ends of the conversation. My advice, is just be proud of who you are and where you came from, even if I don't understand ya. :D Because I don't think that your accent is going away anytime soon. You'll get used to the common phrases and pronunciations of the area you are in. Heck, one day you may move from there and have to "fit in" again. Maybe you don't get accused of being Mexican like I do sometimes LOL.

As yourgrandma says, use protection! I'd wait a week or so if it doesn't start then get tested. Just a quick note too, even if you use birth control you can still get pregnant. Ask my wife! I have two wonderful kids now that her birth control did work! Not to sound like a prude, but abstinence is best. If you are pregnant, it's ok, not the end of the world. Your child will love you like no other person could ever.

My best advice to you would be hang out with friends. Unless you are a social drinker and would think that would cause a problem. Go buy yourself a new outfit, go get dressed up and make yourself beautiful. For every guy you've dated that's an asshole just remember there's another guy that is willing to take his place and make you happy. Far as know there's no fast way to get rid of one, maybe some ice but if you are a girl (even a guy) try using some makeup, that matches your skin color. You could also try wearing a turtleneck if it's low enough for it to cover and perhaps if you do use make up and it's not an exact blend, try not to make it as noticeably by placing your hand over the area or turning your body when speaking to others and not letting them get close. I hate to say but, "been there done that!" Just don't do it more than once!

Real as in it looks like what a snowflake would look like under magnification. But since the very website is for artist then I'd say someone used a picture editing software to make that. By the way, since snowflakes are ice crystals that have their own pattern, no two ever look exactly the same.

Not so much technology, but definitely advicenators.
I've been reading questions recently, and noticing more and more that someone will post an answer, and the next person will say something like "I would like to point out to [insert advicenator's name here] that this person was not asking THIS, he/she was asking THAT." or "[insert advicenator's name here], you're WRONG."
If an advicenator is wrong about something like a definition, it shows in the rest of the answers that come up - it's unnecessary to tell them they're wrong.
Does it bother anyone else when advicenators bicker, or pick on other advicenators' advice?
I dunno, I just thought this was a site for people to help each other.

No, I think you are right. I only answer topics if I've had a similar situation, experience or something I've been taught. I don't know about anyone else's qualification but my own. So if I happen to answer someones question for an example, about a choice in what college to attended then I'll base my advice on what I know about attending college. There's no point in arguing unless that person who says "you are wrong" has some sort of credentials to back it up, like a doctor who is correcting someone's bad advise. More than likely over half these answers maybe found online elsewhere, but people chose to come here to ask and that's fine, that's what the Internet is for. Most of the time there's no right or wrong answer only experiences lived by others.

someone is hacking onto my screen name and changing my profile and talking to people. i changed my password already and its so good i almost forgot it. how can i stop this??
Well, could be a couple of solutions, you'll have to try. First all, make sure there's no one around you in the room when you put in your password. After data is submitted you have little control over it. If you are on say, a network at work someone maybe using a packet sniffer to get your info. I doubt they'd be able to sniff your ISP's network with out hijacking a service you are already running, which maybe your case. Usually done by have the user unknowingly install a Trojan. I'd start off with installing a firewall like COMODO pro (it's free) and running a virus scan. Now, if you do have a firewall make sure it's enabled and not corrupt. I've seen in certain cases a firewall that was enabled was actually not working at all. Make sure your computer is updated with all the patches too. Also if you have a third party firewall and you are running XP with it's firewall, disable Window's firewall. It's not a true firewall in the first place. It doesn't monitor incoming traffic and really doesn't do much for outbound either.
One other thing. I assume you are using Windows. You could try and see if anything is running on your computer you don't know of, making connections to the Internet. Let me say this, that if you do find something you are unaware of, Google it and you may find out.
If you are running XP, go to start then run. If you don't see "run" press and hold the Window's logo key and press the R key.
Type in cmd
Type in netstat -ao This will display all connections and listening ports and the process IDs belonging to each connection.
Next open task manager CTRL+ALT+DELETE the go to the processes tab then on the menu click "view" then go to "set columns" check the box named PID. Then reference the ID numbers with what you have in the command prompt window. If you are sure you can disable that process, if not then Google it.
