Theres no real point. Your car will be idling between 500 and 1000 rpm in whatever gear. But its not neccesary and wont save gas. I would argue against park just because if you miss a green and try to shift fast you could end up shifting into the wrong thing. Say, slamming into reverse and into the car behind you.

I used to drive a manual, so its a bit different. Sweet car, Id shift to neutral coming to a red then into 1st once I was stopped.

Its okay. The only thing about it is safety concerns because you might shift back to rear or something and that would be bad. My dad told me it saves gas but I don't know whether that's true or not.

There is certainly no law against it.
I'd go with putting it in neutral rather than park. Like Nova said, your back up lights flashing on may alarm motorists behind you.

Nothing will happen but it is normal to keep your foot on the break

it won't kill you or anything, but it's normal to just keep your foot on the brake. if you need to put it in park for some reason, then it's fine, but generally you don't shift gears at a red light unless you drive a stick shift or something.

LOL yeah it ok, ok as in it wont hurt your car. Well, it'll slow you down a bit when you need to go, to shift back into gear. But it wont hurt the transmission. Why? Is the car stalling? I'd put into neutral. When you shift into park, from shifting from drive to park, you pass reverse and you're backup lights will come on briefly. It could possibly frighten the driver behind you.
