Is it bad to be on Atkins while exercising?

Depends on the exercising- if you're a bodybuilder then it might not be a wise choice, but if you're the normal casual dieter and exerciser it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Is walking for an hour equivalent to jogging for a half an hour? eh?

No.

ok i want to buy the ab lounge but does anyone know the difference between a regular ab lounge and the ab lounge ultra? like, what makes the ab lounge ultra better? i'm just curious cause if there's not that much of a difference, then i'm just going to buy the regular one because it's $94 (the ultra is $140). also, can anyone tell me if it's any good, and do u get good abs from using it? and for how long?

thanx. :]

The difference between the regular and the ultra is the price and the bullshit they try and hit you with. It's an overrated, ineffective piece of equipment so I suggest you don't waste your money.

Don't you think if it was such an amazing piece of equipment you would see them in gyms everywhere? :-D

Will taking chromium picolinate supplements really help boost my metabolism?

Please only answer if you actually know for sure.

Thanks!

I'll tell you for sure that Chromium Picolinate is garbage. It caught on heavy in the mid to late 90's as a popular supplement but time has shown it to be very ineffective, about as ineffective as Colostrum.

That's why it's so cheap. CLA is a better choice.

does anyone have a story about their use of steroids that would let me use it as sort of an interview for my research paper?
it doesnt have to be your story but maybe a friend or something??
it would be greatly appreciated

I know plenty of people who have used and although I've never used- I am no slouch with steroid knowledge. My view is a bit different from the general masses who think they know what they're talking about yet never spent time in a real gym in their life or even saw steroids up close.

All I'll tell you is this: When taken with extreme care and detail under supervision by a mature person who understands all the risks involved and not like a 17 year old jerk off "I want to bench 500" attitude filled idiot they really aren't as bad as many make them out to be. They aren't physically addicting and unlike other actual PROBLEM drugs they were originally developed to help people.

However you get these stupid ass kids who get their hands on them, take them carelessly get hurt and steroids become the devil- hey if you take too many aspirin it will kill you, same with steroids. When not taken the correct way- make no mistake they can mess you up and cause a slew of problems. And I am sick of hearing this "Roid Rage" theory- if you're a tough guy wanna be asshole before you take them- you're definitely going to be the same or even worse while you take them.

If you're not an adult, don't have a respectable amount of time under the bar (Try like 10 years minimum) and not ready to take the risks involved- don't take them; if you do then you'll wish that you never did.

I'm 17 years old turning 18 this year and have about 23% body fat... yeah I know that's a lot... anyway, I used to be a swimmer for about 11 years and then I decided to do marching band... not much of an equivalent excersize system. Well i've been reading about whey protein and am wondering if I should invest my money in it. So far I know there are two types Isolate and concentrate and both are good except isolate is more expensive and higher quality whereas concentrate is cheaper but still good... what I'm looking for is something that will help me lose weight by filling up my stomach as well as fuel my muscles for when I weight train and what not... I'm not looking to be a humongous football player but more of a toned 8 pack type of guy haha... my dimensions are 5'8 205 34 waist size... any help as to what I should do?

Doesn't matter if you want to be a football player or a surfer- if you work out then you're going to need protein supplementation. Isolate is not better- that's just a marketing scheme. However if you are lactose intolerant than you might want to try isolate; if not then stick to regular Whey.

Now Whey protein is just a faster digesting protein than Casein; whey takes about 2 hours to digest and casein takes about 7 to digest. That's why most lifters take whey before or after a workout so that the nutrients are absorbed while the metabolism is at it's peak. If you think you're going to have an 8 pack just from drinking protein shakes then you're living in a dream world- get ready to bust your ass like you have never busted it before. This includes eating VERY clean, hitting the gym and training with weights AND doing your cardio, getting your sleep and that's the truth my man; Friday night going out for pizza is out the window and so is staying on the phone with your girlfriend until 3 in the morning now if you're serious. Want an 8 pack? Prove it. I am not trying to belittle you- I am just telling you the truth.

I've tried them all and my protein of choice is Optimum Nutrition's 100% Whey Protein- tastes excellent and it's priced right.

ok i was watching a movie and i started thinking....if you just went to the police and said i you had killed someone would they throw you in jail? or would you have to show them the body for them to believe you? and what if you didnt want to show them the body? would they still throw you in jail?

Grrr more Hollywood law enforcement.

If you admitted to killing someone and you were serious then your ass would be in the slammer. If you refuse to produce the body, but they know your pedigree information and start tracing your whereabouts through myriad processes of investigation then odds are that they are going to find the body most likely anyway.

what exactly is a victimless crime

Mostly vice offenses such as prostitution, gambling, etc. where a crime is committed but no one is harmed.

ok i heard about this thing wehre you
change the
amount of calories you eat per day
example one day you eat less (not under 1500)
and another you eat more (not over 2000)
and shift
its said that it makes your metabolism fater because
it never gets used to what your going to eat

...
will this stuff actually work or is it
BS
thanx

It's not all that bad, but I would instead recommend that your rotations come in the form of training; doing 15 minutes of cardio at a moderate pace one day then doing 8 or 10 minutes at high intensity the next day for example.

Find good foods that you like and stick to them; every now and then try something different for variety and change the calorie consumption to break plateaus...you don't have to do it every week though.

i dont get how people get them
what happens if you get caught?

No...that's not what is going to always happen. It's Criminal Possession of a forged document and it's a crime. Doesn't even matter if you use it or not- the simple fact that you have possession of it and know that it is fake is enough to constitute a crime. What happens to you depends on the person in charge who catches yous' feelings toward discretion that day and whether they want to prosecute or tell you to get lost.

Should soft drinks be sold in schools?

What are the pros & what are the cons?
PLEASE don't tell me to Google it-I have.
I just need people's opinions. :)

Thank you in advance!*

No, I don't think they should be sold in schools. Kids need nourishment- not sugar filled crap and yes I had the same attitude when I was in school.

It's opening the door for obesity, diabetes and a wholeeeee lot of other health issues that can develop later on down the road and be very hard or impossible to reverse.

Lots of that is parenting also though- if they eat shit at home then they'll eat/drink shit in school and think they'll always get away with it. You learn either the easy way or the hard way when it comes to lifestyle choices you make that can be detrimental- nobody should (especially kids) have to learn the hard way but unfortunately nobody does anything about it until it's too late.

i know you can lose muscle mass but hes saying that once you build muscle you cannot lose it.
so can you lose the actual muscle?

Your body has a bare minimum of muscle anyway, the extra muscle that you build on top of it can be lost if you don't work it enough/the right way. Protein deficiency and not drawing enough water into the muscle are the main reasons muscles will shrink on top of not enough exercise.

The more muscle mass you have; the more you need to eat/work out to maintain it and it's excellent to have a high amount of muscle fiber because you can store glucose converted to glycogen more than someone with average/less than average amounts of muscle and therefore you put yourself less at risk for Diabetes for starters.

[view]

so apparently some guy at the GNC told my boyfriend that you absolutely cannot lose muscle..that you can only have deflated muscle and lose mass to the muscle
i think that is bullshit but what do you think?

I used to work at the Vitamin Shoppe...we were always encouraged to say whatever we wanted as long as we sold as much as possible. I always told people the truth, but that's me. Most won't and even if they could- they don't know what the hell they are talking about a lot of the time.

Well now that's tricky because everybody has at least SOME muscle mass, but yes you can lose muscle mass. Use it or lose it basically. Muscles get bigger because: 1. You sufficiently broke down old muscle fiber and rebuilt new, stronger fibers and you got enough raw tools for muscle growth in your diet (protein mainly) and 2. Because you have drawn water into the muscle belly; which is what gives it that full look.

The guy at GNC is wrong-o.

It seems to me that every other question on advicenators is about exercise, so I've made a web page that calculates a simple fitness plan. Here it is:
http://www.geocities.com.nyud.net:8080/theymos/test.html
I have a few questions, to make it accurate:
-Do you think I should add or remove anything from my calculator?
-What percentage of total calories burned should be burned through exercise? The formula I use is:

((current_weight-target_weight)*100)/days_exercising
I also make sure it's below intake(should I do that?).

-Is 21.7(the average normal BMI) the best BMI to shoot for?
-My current formula for "new consumption" aims to get intake to 2600 calories. It is:

calorie_intake-(((current_weight-target_weight)*2)*10)

I also change it to 2600 if it would be below 2600. Do you think that formula if accurate? If not, how should I change it?

Thanks for your help!

-theymos

Not too bad. I just put in some random figures and will tell you that 2 mins of jogging, 3 mins of biking and 5 minutes of brisk walking isn't enough for anyone.

I never go by BMI at all- it doesn't take into account how much muscle weight there is. When assessing progress I use skinfold measurements mainly and a scale just to keep track with numbers.

Calculators and all make people slaves to scales and calorie counting which is counterproductive. Add in weight training to the list of activities and take out slow walking- doesn't matter whether its fast or slow; the same amount of calories are burned in the same distance.

i prefer the taste of soy milk and i've heard it's better for you too. what are the pros and cons of soy and cow's milk both?

Soy protein is not better for you than the Casein and Whey proteins found in cow's milk. Soybeans may yield half of their content from protein but that is comprised mainly of non essential amino acids that the body produces already anyway. While cow's milk may have less protein content by portion- it provides more essential amino acids which the body cannot produce on its own and so it has a higher net utilization rate the downside is unless it's skim milk it's pretty high in fat and sugar but it really is worth it.

I used to have well organized eating habbits but not im in schoool and working and its hard to have continuous healthy foods especially when I find myself eating alot of fast food. Im cautious about myself, I want to be healthy and put on weight. Please help me to figure out a way so I can eat healthier and more during the day. Is there something I can do to change my metabolism? Also I'm a little bit of a picky eatier because I don't particularly like veggies or brown bread (except on pitas =) ) I do on the otehr hand like pastas and pizza and meat (with lots of gravy) Please give me whatever opinions you know, books, websites, whatever. Thanks So Much. !

Dave Draper's Your Body Revival is a great book. I highly recommend it.

i have just turned 15 and i go to the gym alot i can squat 54 stone 345.6kg is this good for my age should i consider body building or weight lifting??

Start out with heavy weights. Squats, deadlifts, bench press, military press, chins, barbell rows. Forget all the overrated pretty boy exercises like curls.

I am sorry but no you don't squat a true 760 lbs at 15 years old and if you did- you wouldn't be asking the question whether powerlifting or bodybuilding should be your main focus. Going down an inch doesn't count, it has to be ATG (Ass to Grass)

is it pointless to do crunches when you have excess belly fat? i have a huge belly and i've been doing crunches, but all they have done is made my hip bones go away! I looked online and read that you shouldnt do crunches with excess belly fat because it'll just puff your stomach out more.

is this true? should i continue doing the crunches? does it get worse before it gets better? if not, how do I burn the belly fat and or lovehandles? thanks!

Pointless? Not really

But you will pass a point of diminishing returns. You have to do what we call in the game "your homework" and make sure your diet is clean and you're doing enough cardio.

From your question I can tell that you really don't care about any other bodypart as much as you do your stomach or you would be asking about making your whole body better.

It doesn't get worse before it gets better...you just need to do all the work- the exercising, the eating and the cardio. I would bet my last dollar that the reason for this is you're either not doing enough cardio for a consistent amount of time, you're eating too little, too much, or you're eating too many different foods that confuse your body's chemistry.

I have com here in desperation of help. My husband is 21 and has highbloodpressure and according to the doctor a little overweight. I have tried to talk to him about it and try to be an accountablility partner. I mentioned sports, the gym, portion control, certain diets(eating healthier),and yes even dance. I want to encourage him to be healthy and I believe I do. I told him I would even do the majority of things with him.(My own health problems limit me on dieting and such)He says that he wants to change but never does anything about it. I think he is the most beautiful personand I dont want to see him struggle with health problems so young. If you have any advice on how I can help him please let me know. I would love it if you prayed for us if you dont have any advice to give. Thank you.

Well you're doing what you can. You know how they say you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink? That's the situation here.

I go through it all the time- somebody comes in for a session and I'll be like "Ok Danielle we're going to do some Hacksquats." and she doesn't want to do them even though that's why she came lol. I can be as motivational and on top of my fitness soapbox as I possibly can be- but ultimately it's the individual who has to have the desire and the guts to change themselves. Unfortunately most people don't act on their health until either two things occurs- 1. They get hurt 2. It's really too late and the damage has been done.

Don't badger him, don't get all in his face about it- instead lead by example. Cook healthy meals, go to the gym yourself, leave a yoga mat laying around, anything to put the thought in his head. Most likely sooner or later he will see that if he wants to live and not live by taking 50 pills a day then his time to do something about it is now while he's young and has a chance.
