Question Posted Wednesday February 28 2007, 4:58 pm

Should soft drinks be sold in schools?

What are the pros & what are the cons?
PLEASE don't tell me to Google it-I have.
I just need people's opinions. :)

No, I don't think they should be sold in schools. Kids need nourishment- not sugar filled crap and yes I had the same attitude when I was in school.

It's opening the door for obesity, diabetes and a wholeeeee lot of other health issues that can develop later on down the road and be very hard or impossible to reverse.

Lots of that is parenting also though- if they eat shit at home then they'll eat/drink shit in school and think they'll always get away with it. You learn either the easy way or the hard way when it comes to lifestyle choices you make that can be detrimental- nobody should (especially kids) have to learn the hard way but unfortunately nobody does anything about it until it's too late.

I think they shouldn't be, you go to school to learn, not to get treats. I see how people can say that "it's your choice to be healthy," but coke machines are just a big waste of money, where as the school could be buying new textbooks/hiring more teachers/etc.

In my opinion, its not healthy.
But I dont care, I like soda.
But I dont drink it EVERY day ALL the time, like some people do. And I think that is a choice they make, you know?

This is not an opinion-poll site.

This is a personal advice site.

______________

Feedback stated: "u r supposed to give advice, not leave rude remarks."

My response: You didn't ASK for advice. If you had asked whether you personally should install vending machines in a school, or whether you should protest the installation of such machines, THEN you would be asking for advice. What you seem to be doing is conducting a survey.

I think that they should be. I dont feel that the school should restrict kids from drinking pop if they want to.

I guess it would depend on the grade level; though.

I would think it should be allowed to be sold in high schools but not middle or elementary

Caffeine stunts growth and makes the kids hyper and when theyre hyper they dont necessarily concentrate.

There isnt real definite pros that I can think of. Its not like caffeine is benefitial unless theyre about to go into gym haha

Cons; caffeine, sugars, not healthy

thats about all I can think of, sorry.

It really is quite a debatable issue - I think it should be up to the parents to allow or not allow their kids to drink it.
