Will I go to hell for this?

Question Posted Wednesday June 20 2007, 9:55 pm

About a month or two ago I made a promise to God that I would not masturbate until I turned 14. Several months ago, probably like 3 or 4 maybe 5, I turned 13. But, I broke that promise. And I know it's really bad to do that, and I'm a Catholic! But the really bad thing is, that I keep telling God I won't do it again, but I do! Sometimes when I cross my legs my clitoris throbs and it feels good, does that count? A part of me feels like he forgives me, partly because it was the time of my period when you're in heat, but part of me feels like he won't forgive me and I don't deserve to go to Heaven. I feel like I've broken my promise, God never breaks a promise and I feel unworthy. I talk to God a lot, I pray a lot, and praise him a lot. But sometimes I'm not nice to others like I should be. Like lying, or making fun of someone and not apologizing, although most of the time I do, yet I do it again! I truly, truly, truly need help to keep my promise and stay un-horny. Will I go to hell for this? Will he forgive me? I feel so scared, I want to go to Heaven! I worship God with all my heart, I really do. And I believe in Jesus and his commandments and in the beatitudes. But one night a while back, I wanted to sort of have my own way of getting an immediate answer with him. Years ago, I bought a statue of Jesus from Canada and the hands broke off accidentally. So I took one hand and fell alseep with it in my hand and asked him to have me wake up with it on the right side of my bed if the answer was "Yes, you will go to Heaven." and it go to the left side if the answer was no. It landed on the left side underneath me! I'm scared. I've done this before, and I asked him if I would meet my sisters in Heaven (I never met them) and it landed on the right side. Is this kind of witch craft or something? Well I'm really scared, so please answer this question!

Additional info, added Wednesday June 20 2007, 10:20 pm:
I've heard God only cares about what's in our hearts - but is that really true? I heard it in Roseanne, but he cares about more than just that, he cares about other things too but what's in your heart is the main thing, right? I want to donate to the poor badly, I try to be nice to people, I worship God, and go to Church. I don't steal, I did when I was little though.
So I'm basically a good person overrall.
So if I make that one mistake will that throw off everything?
He's very merciful I'd just like to know.
Is it wrong to ask this on a website to others? Am I supposed to just leave it up to God instead of asking what other people think? I'm fretting...

You will not, I repeat, will NOT go to hell for masturbating.

No one's dead, you're not screwing a married guy, you're good.

Just...don't steal, kill, or cheat.

ok, i wish there was more of you people, i really do. you have the fear of God in you. i wish some people i know had that.lol. now, masturbating is a earthly thing, i belive that it is wrong, BUT if you ask God to forgive you, and ask him to really help you not to do it. you will not go to hell. i promise. none of us are perfect, the only man that walked this earth that was perfect, was jesus christ. if we was perfect, we wouldn't have to worry about the second coming of jesus, and hell. now, you heard that God only cares about whats in you're heart. that is true, BUT when you do somethin, whether its wrong or right its in you're heart. so God knows. but keep the faith, don't get freaked out because you did one bad thing, or said somethin bad. just don't do it again. have faith in God that he'll forgive you, for all the things you do. i know of a bible verse that i belive that'll bless you, its matthew 11:28-30. i hope that this helped.

God bless

Honey masturbating is not wrong - you are young and exploring your body.

I am not catholic however I have a friend who is a Reverend and I once asked her if masturbating was a sin and whether or not ALL sins were forgiven.

She told me that all sins are forgiven if you are truly sorry (which I believe that you are).

She also told me that many a bad thing had been done in the name of Religion (for example the Crusades where thousands of people were killed or the Spanish Inquisition where many innocent people were executed as heretics) and pointed out that in those instances that the commandment "thou shalt not kill" had been broken over and over (I am sure that you will understand that if you are Catholic this is a very very important commandement to keep) however, she said that even though a commandment had been broken those who were truly sorry were forgiven and accpeted into heaven.

I really hope that this gives you some peace of mind.

wow relax, God didn't intend for you to worry like this, ok so im a baptist so are beliefs differ... i think that if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior and that he died on the cross for your sins, and ressurected on the third day and is soon going to come back down to earth to take his people to heaven forever then your a christian you dont have to do the hand thing I dont think its wrong you tried to do that or anything its just Satan feeding lies in your head so make him upstet dont succome to it.
Ok and as for the masturbating thing, it is totally, and i mean totally normal to feel hormones that tell you to do that, i used to look at porn but i dont anymore what i had to do to recover and i did have some times when i had relapses but basically pray, and read the Bible and set goals for yourself but not ones that are impossible or you are setting yourself up.
In christian love,

Hey, let me tell you right away that nobody here or anywhere else will decide or be able to tell you that you are going to hell.

Do some research (and please, don't take everything you hear on sitcoms to heart when it comes to religion), and look up the lives of many saints and holy people. They made mistakes too. Nobody's perfect.

God will forgive you if you are truly sorry. I would go receive the sacrament of reconciliation and confess. I know - probably crossed your mind but feel like you can't do that, but trust me - priests have heard just about everything so there really isn't anything you can tell them that will make them mad or go crazy.

Relax, and don't get so caught up about all of this. If you feel the way you do, then why wouldn't you go to heaven? Please understand that you can't go to hell for a mistake or broken promise you made. People who go to hell are ones who do not want to follow God, and want to deliberately do whatever in their power to go against him. They don't praise him, they curse him. You actually want to do what is right and good - so that is big points in his book. I'm not a judge, but I feel that God will at some point judge us fairly and give us what is due.

It is OK to ask what other people think. I encourage you to do that. I would ask that you make sure you know who you are asking before you take what they said word for word. We all make mistakes, myself included, so don't be afraid to ask somebody in the church, like a nun or a priest, or even write to them. Please, don't feel like your alone either, because plenty of people go through the same problem, and in most cases even much worse. Hope that helped and hope you feel better, let me know through an inbox if you need anything else.

Helpful answered Wednesday June 20 2007, 11:30 pm:
Okay, first of all, I wouldn't go by the hand of the Jesus statue. I think it's just chance- don't try to make God answer right away. He will answer in His own good time. Just be patient. But, sometimes He won't answer if it it a selfish desire. Just do what you think is right.

If you made a promise to the Lord, you have to commit! He has held up His promises to you. Work at it! You CAN control your desires. The people who do are the ones who are truly great. IT is a habit and a hard one to break at that, but you can do it!

God has his mysterious ways of working. But everything he does is for a reason. I don't think you should be feeling scared becasue masturbating is a sin but we are teenagers.. and we cannot control our hormones. It like having sex before mariage, that is a major sin too but we do it anyways because it is hard to control our instincts. Life is filled with surprises hun. God knows what he is doing with each and everyone of us. Im aslo a very big catholic. See dont go by if the broken hand is on the left or right side of the bed when you wake up. I understand how you feel but it is a normal feeling!!!

I hope i helped you.. take care!

i cant tell you are confused and thats ok! it is not wrong to ask about this on a website, you want to know if what you did is wrong, and thats ok. Its all about your conscience. Im sure that God is happy with you for worshiping and praying to him. What I would do is go to confession. Im sure the priests will tell you more answers that you want to know than anyone here could say. No one can ever tell if you are going to heaven or hell, only God. Just make sure to tell the priest all the sins you think you have committed, and you can also ask him questions too. Make sure to go to church on holy days and holy days of obligation. As for the statue hands, thats is probably just a coincedence, and i wouldnt fret over it. That is probably the reason why it is so confusing. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

hope that helped.

infatuatedxxglamour answered Wednesday June 20 2007, 10:43 pm:
If you were in the "heat" cycle of your period, then it isn't totally your fault. I mean, God doesn't control each woman's bodily urges. I'm sure that all of your good outweighs your bad, so just keep trying to not do it again. As long as you try your hardest and pray for forgiveness, God will forgive.

About the hands of Jesus... if you are this devout a Catholic, I doubt that Jesus purposefully left the part of his statue hand on the left side of your bed to symbolize that you aren't going to heaven. Instead, I think He may have been testing you, so that you may try harder and obey your promises more to get into Heaven. I wouldn't worry about it, and no, it is not witchcraft.

Good luck and God bless.

Well, Id say you arent going to hell, but then, im not catholic. Catholics tend to be pretty strict, in that even one unrepented for sin sends you to hell. masturbation is a sin in and of itself, so really, putting it off till 14 doesnt help you much in that regard either. breaking a promise to GOD is also a sin. so yes, according to your religion, if you do not repent and ask GODs forgiveness you will go to hell.

Roxy07 answered Wednesday June 20 2007, 10:34 pm:
God created men and women, he created us with hormones and curiosity. This isn't a sin sweety!

It's your hormones and curiosity.

Look at it this way. You are in a room, by yourself, not hurting anyone so why do you feel so bad?

It's perfectly normal to explore your own body. There are plenty of other things that catholics and other religious people have done that is ten times worse.

Don't make anymore promises to god about this and you will be fine. He's not going to punish you for something that isn't wrong.

Hope I helped :)
