Moop answered Thursday August 10 2006, 1:16 am: I don't know a thing about smoothies, but I have tried almost every available soymilk on the market. a good soymilk depends on your needs and personal tastes. my favorite is silk's low-fat plain soymilk fortified for vegans. I am a vegan. it has my B vitamins. I like the slightly nutty taste of most soymilks, not the covered-over vanilla.
try getting a few from the store made by different brands in different flavors (plain, vanilla, very vanilla, etc.) and testing them out.
soymilk fun factz:
soymilk doesn't come from cows. it comes from soybeans grown from the ground. because it doesn't come from cows drinking it or cooking with it doesn't harm any animals. it also doesn't contain fun things like casein (which is addictive and has morphine-like addictive properties) and puss from the udders of cows that have mastitus from improper care. the legal limit for puss in cows' milk is 200 parts per million. even organic milks contain well over 400 parts per million in most cases. you'd be hard-pressed to find puss-free milk. I'm a huge advocate for soymilk and the utilization of soybeans in general. I like to leave milk to the baby cows because really, I can do without all that puss. Your favorite fruits, in my case I love strawberries and bananas so I'll give you what I make-
1 cut up banana
1 cup chopped strawberries
2 cups skim milk
1 cup no fat, low sugar strawberry-banana yogurt
2 tablespoons fat free Cool Whip
Ice

3/4 cup frozen berries (the mixed field berries are good)
2 scoops low fat FROZEN yogurt (vanilla is best)
1/2 cup apple or peach juice (I buy the low sugar one)
Throw it all in the blender and whip/frappe it for a while. Its awesome!

more_than_a_feeling answered Wednesday August 9 2006, 7:52 pm: Pretty much anything with fresh fruit/yogurt/milk/soymilk is great for you but I'd also suggest buying flax seed meal or powder from Whole Foods or GNC to put into your smoothies. It adds yummy flavor and the omega-3 vitamins boost your metabolism and are great for your heart. [ more_than_a_feeling's advice column | Ask more_than_a_feeling A Question ]
