Hey! I dont know much about foreign exchange students but if you want to become one you need to get a lot on information about the place you want to go. Also, you need to look into a lot of people that live in the place you want to go to. Maybe some you know has family or relatives that you can stay with. But there are also many homes tht take foreign exchange students. You can try going to your local school and ask the guidance counselor if she knows anything on foreign exchange students. Also local libraries have tons of books on foreign exchange. You can also ask the librarians. I hope you find my advice helpful! Sorry it took so long!

**P.S. I have a friend that went to Ireland as an exchange student. She really enjoyed it and had the best experience ever. She has many friends their now and she did it through her high school.

**P.P.S. Ask around some people you know and maybe they know someone or something.

You don't say which country you are from, so different rules could apply. However, assuming you are from the USA, I have enclosed a couple of websites to get you started. If you're from a different country, come back to me and I'll try again.
The first one will take you the UK, Ireland, Spain, France, Australia etc. Whether it's Eco, Intern, Group, Independent, School to School, High School visit and so on.
The second one, you click on the country you are interested in and that will take you to a site with more information about it.
That's all I can tell you I'm afraid, the closest I have ever come to foreign exchange students is when, years ago, I used to take them in for a couple of weeks at a time whilst they were here.
I hope this will be enough to get you started and I wish you all the best.

Okay I'm not exactly 100% sure about them, but I know there were a lot at my school. I loved it, they were the sweetest people evver!
I know if you want to be a foreign exchange student if your coming to wherever your from, you have to live with someone else, a different family, most likely someone in the family goes to the school your going to be attending.
To find more information try googling it or calling the school you will be attending?

No, I'm sorry but I don't know much about it, although I did go Europe, but I wasn't a foreign exchange student. All you need to do is (I think) is learn the language and start studying things relevent to them. (What ever country your going to) I really don't know much about it. That's all I can say. Oh, and don't be shy, you can probably make some friends and get some penpals, (for when ever you get back to your country) and so this is all I can say.

orphans answered Tuesday July 11 2006, 12:20 pm:
well do you know the language to the other country you want to go to? do you know the customs and the way people act over there? and the thing is some countries can be right next to each other but things will be totally different between them. italy, germany, france, spain, and portugal are good examples. they're all right next to each other but the cultures, languages, and way of living in all of them is completely different. to go to another country is one thing. to go to another country to stay for a few years is a completely other thing. you will learn a lot, and probably be very scared of things at first. and other than preparing what little you can by trying to learn the language or assimilate into the natives by learning how they act. nothing can prepare you for the real thing. good luck though, if you wanna do it, then do it, but be careful. and stay safe

MHScutie87 answered Tuesday July 11 2006, 11:24 am:
I've actually made friends with some foreign exchange students from Germany, Spain, Japan, and Taiwan. You live in that foreign country for usually about a year. You live with a host family, and you attend school in that country. Some of my friends did not like their host families, so they were able to change them. It helps to be very good in that language because you will be emerged into a different culture that you are unaware of. It may cost a lot of money, but you should check into the scholarships available to you. You usually have to be in high school, and your year away may or may not count as an actual year of school for you (grade and GPA wise). If you have anymore questions, I can try to help.

good luck- :)

clarayow answered Tuesday July 11 2006, 11:15 am:
In my school, I'd have to register (in my very own school) first to be in a foreign exchange programme. To qualify for this prog, particpants must have attained rather good grades or have outstanding extracurricular activities.

And, normally my school would send out only bout at most 10 students for the foreign exchange program. Yup. That's all I know. Hope I did help =)

unfortunitally i dont know anything about foreign exchange students, but if I were you, I would go to google and search for foreign exchange programs. You could go ask your guidence counsilor or parents about doing it and they may know something that will help.
