They would want you to be very safe for the time you are at that family's house. I believe the organization drops by and sees your upkeep every once and a while as well. The foreign exchange program is about showing people culture and the world. It gives you a different perspective on different countries, people and cultures. It could be very eye-opening and fun. You would be going to a different school, with different people for a period of maybe a few months, however the times of how long you will be there and where you are going and the organizations "check up" days, where they check up and see how you are doing, is all based on the program that you register with. I do think that with each program there is "host families" that you stay with (pre-approved safe housing for people like yourself). You either pick the family or they pick the family for you, usually by compatibility - or at least enough to be able to kind of get along, even though they will be different too for your educational sake. But anyways, I would do more research on these different programs since I'm really giving only the basics to you now. Here's some websites that I found that could help you (I find these on Google - any search engine can help you really) [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
I hope I helped! I think the foreign exchange student thing is really cool of you to do! Good luck and I hope you have fun and you learn alot -let me know how it goes! -GC07 [ GC07's advice column | Ask GC07 A Question ]
girdy_goo15 answered Tuesday July 11 2006, 10:10 pm: I can assure you that only the most qualified families host an exchange student. we recently had one from the Ukraine that attended our school. but i found a website for you [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) . it is a very good exchange program. it has all the information you need. but one thing to remember, you need good grades to become an exchange student, so work very hard. ok if you need anything else just let me know.

neverbroken87 answered Tuesday July 11 2006, 4:22 pm: Well I have never participated in a foreign exchange program but I have known people who have done it. It is a great opportunity to learn in a different country and pick up on some new culture. If your interested in being in one, you could consult your school and ask them if they have information on an exchange program. You could also research it online. And yes, these programs do check out the family you would be staying with to make sure it is an okay and safe enviroment for you to be in. I hope I helped. Take Care :) [ neverbroken87's advice column | Ask neverbroken87 A Question ]

Alli answered Tuesday July 11 2006, 1:15 pm: I think that if you think being an exchange student is something that you want to do then you should be it but as for asking me for the information I have no idea about stuff like that. One suggestion is to contact someone in whom is in charge of foreign exchane agencies. Good Luck!!
