This question is directed toward all you christian colunists. I'm planning to get a tattoo soon and I'd like to get the opinion of other christians. So if you are a christian, I'd like to know how you feel about tattoos.
Also something to think about is where you get the tattoo, I purposly got them in places that are easy to hide due to my career (I am a youth worker) and not wanting to influence my clients. Also there is a new study out for women who get tattoos on their lower back and how it is harder for them and more dangerous to get an epidural when having a baby.
Orpheus answered Thursday June 29 2006, 10:49 pm: I am a Christian and, unlike some other Christians who have answered your question, I have never felt or been led to believe that getting a tattoo is a sin or is a way of rejcting the way God made you. A previous responder to your question brought up a Catholic belief that "[getting a tatoo] says to God 'you did not make me perfect.'" I feel this is bad advice and a very warped point of view because God DID NOT make us perfect. Getting a tattoo IS life-changing because it is a (more or less) permanent mark on your body.
My advice is to you is to not let the fact that you are a Christian dissuade you from getting a tattoo. However, be sure that the tattoo you get is truly meaningful and is something that you will enjoy in a few decades as much as you will when you first get it. PinkDevil answered Friday June 23 2006, 10:11 pm: I think you should not get the tattoo because if you do not know it is a sin and god said in the bible that you should not make any markings to your body because God made the way he wanted to and you should respect that and not get that tattoo Iam not saying you shouldn't get it it is your decision but if you do not know that something is not a sin and you do it it is not considerd a sin on your part but, if you know that it is a sin and you do it then it is considered a sin on your part so if you get that tattoo, that means that you are commiting a sin so choose what is wrong and what is right I hope you choose what is right and by the way. I am a Catholic-Chrisians and I honestly do not have a tattoo! [ PinkDevil's advice column | Ask PinkDevil A Question ]
partygurl24 answered Thursday June 22 2006, 3:16 pm: Hey. Well, I'm a Catholic-Christian, and I wouldn't get a tatoo because it's changing my body, and I like the way God made me. This is a permanent think and a tough decision to make because it's changing your body. If you really want it, then I suggest trying a temporary tatoo for some time, and seeing how you like it because if you get a permanent one first and you don't like it and/or regret getting it, you can't remove it unless you get laser surgery, which would cost a fortune...and I don't think that you want to go throught all of that hassle. So, get a temporary one first, and then if you like it, go ahead. Just as long as you keep your faith in your life, getting a tatoo won't be that bad. I hope I helped! lastlyMe answered Thursday June 22 2006, 12:46 pm: i'm Catholic so i'll give you my honest opinion.
i'm sure you know why Christians are against tattoes. we dont believe in permanently changing your body because that says to God "you did not make me perfect". Personally I think that its true. Also, i'm not sure if you will be able to be buried in a Christian cemetary.
This will PERMANENTLY change your life. you may think now "oh its so cool and hot" but later in life when your trying to feed your family and you cant get a job you may think "if only I didnt have this tattoe I could pay for little johnny's daycare" (this is also what Dr.Phil said on his TV show)
I don't plan on getting a tattoo because i am always changing. I could change tomorrow and think something completely opposite then what I feel now.

HectorJr answered Thursday June 22 2006, 12:20 pm: Hmm. Go for it. So long as it's not something profane or diabolical, I don't see what would be wrong with it. Not saying it has to be a cross or something. So long as it's not offensive, then you're good to go. [ HectorJr's advice column | Ask HectorJr A Question ]
twistedsister17 answered Thursday June 22 2006, 11:51 am: I don't think it matters if you get a tattoo or not if you're a Christian. I'm a Christian, and I'm planning on getting a tattoo along with my lip pierced. I really hate how some people say, "Oh, God won't love you if you have a tattoo." That's not true. Because shouldn't God love you unconditionally? No matter if you have a tattoo or piercing or what not. I'd go for it. It's your life and your choice, and it's not like you "won't" be Christian if you DO get one. [ twistedsister17's advice column | Ask twistedsister17 A Question ]

mayonnaise answered Thursday June 22 2006, 10:37 am: Hi. I remember when my mom got one of her ankle years ago. Then when she went to church, the preacher came up to her and said that the bible says you are not supposed to mark your body or pierce it. (just in different words) In my opinion, Christians can get tattoos, as long as its nothing extremly sinful. Like the devil for example. My cousin sings in a gospel group, and has a tattoo on his arm of a cross. Its beautiful. Actually, a lot of Christian tattoos' are beautiful. So, if you want to get one, then get one. Just keep in mind people are fast to judge others with tattoos. [ mayonnaise's advice column | Ask mayonnaise A Question ]
kristen22 answered Thursday June 22 2006, 10:28 am: Well, I am a Christian and I have tattoos. Traditionally, your not supposed to mark your skin. All of my tattoos have meaning to me there not wortless you know like say your wanting to get a tribal tattoo around your arm, that has no real meaning. I have my grandmothers name and a butterfly on my arm. I went to a family reunion one time and the preacher came up to me (He knew my grnadmother well when she was alive) and teared up and said, well if you HAD to get a tattoo....you chose the right one. That is something that I will never forget. I'm not saying you should get a tattoo of someone that has passed in your life, just make sure it has meaning so it will always be worth something to you. like hmm I have the name Precious written in a chinese symbol on my ankle. It's my dog's name.. Nope dont care how pathetic that sounds, I love her to death! So I say go for it. I don't regret any of the one's I have (4 total) Good Luck and have fun choosing the right tattoo! [ kristen22's advice column | Ask kristen22 A Question ]
