This Teacher Gives His Students His Number....What??

Question Posted Sunday March 5 2006, 12:42 pm

I have a math teacher and theres a bunch of girls that likes him. So I found out that they call him on his cell phone and they talk to him on the internet. I find this very strange
because he is like 25 and he lives with his parents and he's single. Half the girls that has his number is between 12-13. I have a bad feeling about this teacher because he goes to ball games and sits with those girls. Does anyone have any idea's on what to do?

Additional info, added Sunday March 5 2006, 1:35 pm:
Also some of the girls don't call him Mr.Cornett, they call him "Cornett". I am going to have a talk with my principle. I feel that this guy is a pervert. He also said the other day while he was wearing these cowboy pants(That has the hole in the middle) over his normal pants he said, "You know, I should wear a lepord thong with these." In front of the class!.

There's nothing wrong with a teacher sitting with the students at a basketball game, but giving the students his cell phone number and making inappropriate comments in class is taking it a little too far. You should talk to the principal and your parents about this because 13 year old girls do NOT need to be talking to their 25 year old teacher on the phone... or anything else for that matter.

Nevaeh314 answered Sunday March 5 2006, 7:45 pm:
I don't think there's anything too wrong with most of what he did, it sounds like he's a fun-loving guy and just wants to have a good relationship with his students, plus he's younger so he can relate to them more. I have a teacher, Mrs. Niffeneger, that we just call "Niff", so not too much harm on just the last name thing. However, if something like the leopard thong incident happens again, I think you should tell someone. It could have just been a joke that he didn't really mean to let slip, but it was nonetheless innapropriate, and if something like it happens again, then I would go to the principal. For now though, I'd just keep an eye on things.
Hope this helps!
Love,
Nevaeh

There are a lot of teachers like this, trust me. You just haven't come across any others. There were a lot of them at my high school and nothing bad ever happened. All the things that you are saying that he is letting them do sound very normal to me because I've seen it so much from so many teachers throughout high school and even college. It really isn't that bad, it just seems so because it's the first time you have seen it. It's just a different style of teaching and nothing to worry about.

Whoa, I think everyone needs to calm down a little bit. Young teachers tend to need to be liked by their students. They have more friendlike, fun-loving relationships. Teachers are supposed to give out their phone numbers so that students can reach them if they have any problems. The only thing that I find strange is that they call him all the time and he doesn't get annoyed enough to tell them to stop. I used to call some teachers by just their last names, and even by their FIRST names, so that's not a problem in the slightest. Again, young teachers tend to want the classroom to be more of a fun environment than a formal one. The reason I can vouch for him is because I was a counselor at a camp and we were told that it wasn't that great of an idea to give out our e-mail addresses or our screennames to our campers. I did that and some other things that I shouldn't have, but I won't get into it all haha. None of it did any harm and none of it was inappropriate. It was just stuff that could be interpreted in the wrong way that I was too young and desperate to be liked to even realize this. I was a young, new counselor and wanted to be liked by my campers more than I thought about the consequences of some of the things I did. I wanted to be the cool one and what harm could giving out my screenname really do? Or letting a camper wear one of my t-shirts because she had run out of clothes? I gave all of them my e-mail address and my screenname. After a while they started IMing me. Sure, some of them were cool and I didn't mind. But so many of them got horribly annoying and I didn't have the heart to tell them to stop talking to me. I think he may be in a situation much like this. He hasn't done anything inappropriate so don't jump down his throat. I think he just, being young, made a mistake and is paying for it. I think that a lot of teachers go through this, just like I did. Don't do anything about Mr. Cornett because nobody can do anything unless something actually happens and, honestly, it is very highly unlikely that it will. He's treating all of the girls the same way. It's not like he's doing it to just one girl. The chance of something happening is just the same as with any other teacher. Try not to worry about this so much and try to have fun in his more casual classroom setting. I hope that I helped you and good luck.

First of all, its none of your business about how he wants to be a teacher so back off him! It may not be right bo you dont want to be catorigized of the tattle-tale-fun-ruiner. Let someone else get labeled that. It's for your own good!

Prime example of when hacking is handy... ...especially if the adults dont do anything about it. Anyhow, If the principal does nothing about it then talk to the parents of one of the girls (pick overpertective parents too as they would be very concerned).

Yeah there is something wrong with this ... he's going beyond where he should be as a teacher. Talk to the principal and tell him/her what this teacher is doing, and also talk to your parents. They'll give you their opinion on the situation and talk to you about it. You're doing the right thing by telling your principal.

You are completely right, that is wierd and is crossing the boundries between student and teacher.

Talking to your principal sounds like the perfect idea. Chances are the staff at your school aren't oblivious to what is going on, but if you say it's making you uncomfortable that gives them a solid reason to speak to this teacher about his inappropraite behavoir.

buzzie answered Sunday March 5 2006, 1:24 pm:
It sounds very inappropriate to me. I think this man sounds like a pedophile; being that these girls are that young. When I was in school many years ago, I never heard of anything like this. That is just plain creepy. He still lives with his mother and is single? The other thing I thought is maybe he's completely innocent and has good intentions, but even then don't you think he'd sit down with these girls that are so young and tell them that although he's flattered, that it's innapropriate for them to be phoning him on his cell?
If I were you; I would make an apointment with your principle and just voice your concerns. I know that they would frown upon this behavior, and he would probably get some sort of a warning.

Tell an older adult! Seriously! I mean, it is serious. Tell an older, and trusted adult that you could talk to about this. Sure, you definitely can show care for these girls, but don't bud into their business with him, or they'll just keep getting into him more, and he'll more than likely find out what you're up to.

Whoa! THere's definitely something wrong with this! As soon as you can, go to the principal of your school, or vice principal, school counselor, anyone! You need to tell them what's going on and all about your concerns. They will take you seriously and can do something about this.
