Why is it like this?
I am a male, 15, and lately I've been wondering about something. There are many girls in our school and grade. I am a gentleman and open doors, get chairs, etc. for the girls. It is pretty much the same way with my friends, we are all like that. But the girls in our school keep saying they like "skaters" or "skaters are soo hot" and we really are wondering what is wrong with us. Not to boast, but all of us are good looking. The girls just keep talking about "skaters." So why is it like this, and do girls not like gentlemen or something?

I, being a girl, know that many many girls are attracted to skaters. It may just be a phase for them all. I swich from goth to skater to all kinds of different things.
Just continue to be gentlemen, because girls REALLY notice that and make a mental note. Don't worry about what the girls think, just continue to be great guys. They will notice that, and when the skater guys don't hold doors for them, that will give them an automatic attraction to you.

personally, i love nice guys. guys who treat girls like shit have a problem. i think the girls in your skool just say they like skaters cause skaters are usually hot wtih long/shag hair and girls love it. but i don't think they're always the best guys just cause they're hot. if you have friends who are girls talk to them about it and ask why none of the girls really like the nice guys at you skool

You will notice that a lot of guys on here have gone with the "girls don't like nice guys" line. this is bollocks. Yes there are girls who will always be into the guys who treat them like shit but guess what- most of those girls are either a)going through a phase b)treat people horribly themselves or c) have such low self esteem that dating them would pretty much be a huge uphill struggle anyway.
Sure, some girls will onyl ever like you as a friend- do not make the mistake of thinking this is necessarily because you are a gentleman. Contrary to popular belief not all girls strike you off the list as soon as you take their coat. Not all girls like to be treated like "bitches and hos" or even all the time as fiercly independent women. Sometimes it's nice to feel taken care of.
You have manners. This is nothing to be ashamed of.
You are a dying breed my friend but I for one wish you were not.

There's certainly nothing wrong with you! Guys like you are very sweet, sometimes too sweet. Alot of girls, like myself, like spontaneous, unpredictable guys though. And also, some girls just like skaters because they totally stereotype skaters as "long haired" guys.
I think you should just wait. If you are how you say you are, I'm sure you will get a girlfriend, because kindness and courtesy almost always impresses a girl even if they don't show it. But don't be afraid to throw a little unpredictability into your life. Wear maybe a shirt you would never wear, that sort of thing.

I think that'd be a little creepy. No offense but if some guy just came out of no where & pulled my seat out for me in Biology or something, I'd be like uhhmm. We're in school & I can definately do that myself. =] Opening doors is sweet, and I absolutely fall head over heals for anybody that opens doors for me. I think it's so cute, haha. Skaters are gay, if you want my personal opinion, I'd choose a gentleman over a skater, ANYDAY! I hate skaters, they're just stupid. :) Some girls just don't like guys who like to do stuff for them, y'know?

I guess they're so appealing because they just seem so spontanious and fun. I guess the reason I dont find gentlemen as appealing is cause I'm looking for fun not safe walks to the beach. It isn't that girls don't like really nice guys, when they are young, they want the ones that are popular or get into trouble half of the time. It's pretty normal, but soon they grow up and realize that guys like you are the ones worth running for. A lot of girls are just confused and don't know what they are getting themselves into when they date guys just because they are hott or they happen to be liked by every girl.
It's like any other trend, skaters are the guy trend right now, but soon it will change.

It's just a style that girls think looks good. But it's true that girls like "bad boys" more than the perfect gentleman. They don't really like the boys that will actually get them into trouble--just guys that look rebellious. Girls need adventure. A guy who is always nice is boring. Don't get me wrong, the other extreme isn't great either. It's good to be in the middle. It's strange but, some guys I've known who wear jewlery and ripped jeans, the kind you would think were disrespectable punks, actually turned out to understand the way I felt as a girl. The same way, I've known some guys who were all about being poilte and "respecting" me, but they didn't know how to have fun (they didn't have any empathy, either) and I always felt uncomfortable around them. But basically, "skater" is just a style of clothing that some girls find appealing--it's your attitude that counts.

I'm finding this weird. All of the Skaters that go to my school are really a bunch of jerks and smoke pot. [I'm not saying all skaters are jerks and smoke pot just the ones I know] I wish more guys would act like gentlemen. Just the other day I was going in the front door of my school and I was carrying alot of stuff, and the guy in front of me let the door slam in my face. There is nothing wrong with you or your friends. You guys are acting like gentlemen, how you should act. It's the girls who are the problem, they are just being superfical. They just want to date a label more then anything else. I would say just wait it out for a girl who isn't like the others, one who likes the fact that you are a gentleman. And don't think that she's not out there. Alot of girls would rather date someone with manners than a total jerk.

Im the same age as you, and alot of boys in my school try the same thing. They try and be such great gentlemen. But girls are different, we ususally want a bad boy. Not in the larger sense, but in the case of like skaters. The skaters just attract to us more easily. I mean yea its great to have a really nice and sensitve guy areound, but that can also be dull. And no one wants to have a dull relationship, everyone wants new exciting things, and girls think that they wont find that in the good guys that always play by the rules. It may be kind of hard to realize but everyone wants something different so maybe you need to find someone thatw ants a good guy like yourself. The skaters just catch the girls eye easier so the girls obsess about them even more. Dont worry about theres nothing wrong with being a gentlemen infact its a great quality to have, some just may not see it yet.

It's just a trend. There's something about their hair or something that makes girls like them. Eventually, they will learn that you are a real man with a real heart. Don't become a skater for them, no matter what you do.

Unfortunately, these girls may not have reached the maturity to realize that looks or popularity aren't everything when seeking a boyfriend. Just give it time and keep being a gentleman. Eventually they'll realize that they're missing out on some great guys by only seeking a certain type.

well, since i'm a girl, usually what we mean by "skaters" like if their hot, like they show some muscle, tall, popular, nice, and cute. Well, what I go for is different. I go for what's in the inside, like if their smart, nice, funny, and definetly cute. If you aren't happy about what other girls think about boys, just try to look for girl like me. Just don't try to change yourself for a girl you like. Someone will like you.

Some girls don't. Some girls prefer the bad boy. Some girls prefer the gentlemen. Some girls prefer the gentlemen, but seem to enjoy getting their hearts stomped on by the bad boys.
Don't change to get girls, please. In the long run, the nice guy always wins. Not that skaters can't be nice guys..but you get the point. In the end, nearly every girl enjoys being treated like a princess. It's just that at this age, we tend to be foolish & are more attracted to the asshole than the good guy, don't ask me why.
