Question Posted Friday December 30 2005, 3:28 pm

I have pimples here and there. I have tried like almost everything. Proactive doesn’t work for me so don’t say that! Pulse half of you just say it because everyone else says it works because you just want a good rating. I need any home remedies or anything I can buy. I have oily skin btw if this helps! Plz what can I do??

Behnnie answered Monday January 2 2006, 2:40 pm:
A few things that work for me are blotting my face periodically throughout the day with a kleenex to absorb some of the excess oil (so it didn't just sit there on my face making things worse), and rinsing my face with cold water when I wash it. It's a free way of toning the skin and tightening up the pores.

If you have a few bucks to spend, Oil of Olay makes a nice astringent face toner that works well and isn't too harsh. Just apply it to your entire face in the morning after you wash your face, and again in the evening after washing your face before you go to bed.

One product I've used that was absolutely (and surpisingly) amazing were these blemish patches from Phisoderm. I can't find them anywhere, but if you can track them down, they're these clear circular patches that you put on the pimple overnight and by morning it will look at least 75% better. I've used a lot of different products over the years, but none of them worked half as well as these tiny little patches. Find 'em, buy 'em, thank me later ;)

I'd recommend trying these easier things first before putting a ton of time and money into a complicated skin care regime when sometimes the smallest (and cheapest!) of changes can do a lot of good.

TinkerbellsHelp answered Saturday December 31 2005, 8:15 pm:
Oh, I use Proactiv and it works okay for me. How long have you been using it? Because I started using it last year and I didnt get results in the 2 weeks like i should, so i stopped using it. But then I tried it again this year, because my acne was getting bad again, and after a like a month, my skin was pretty clear. I like Proactiv because they have moisturizers, sun screen, concealer, foundation, ect that doesnt clog pores. They also have creams that take away shine.

If you have acne, theres no cure for it, if you have acne, you may never have clear clear skin. But you can get your skin in better shape.

Okay, I suggest that if your getting a zit, before you go to bed, put a little toothpaste on it. It burns the zit away. Haha, sounds weird, right? It works.

After you eat greasy foods, wash your face. Grease from foods can clog your pores.

Dont sun bathe. It makes you sweat and dries your skin, possible clogging your pores.

For that shine, and just washing your face, I haven't tried it but try Biore. They have a big line for face stuff, and one is to ban shine.

I apologize if this sounds REALLY ghetto.. because it probably is.... but I use rubbing alcohol to get rid of my pimples. It has the tendency to dry out your face, so I don't reccomend putting it on more than twice a day. This is one of the only things that works for my acne, and it's really cheap.

Peachgirly answered Friday December 30 2005, 8:11 pm:
I think that you should go to the dermatologist for a prescription. The thing is that my dermatologist told me that proactive doesn't work for everyone cause of the low amount of benzoyl peroxide. But, if you can't go to a dermatologist try this routine that I found in Seventeen magazine for oily skin. At night before you go to sleep and in the morning when you wake up use Biore Blemish Fighting Ice cleanser. At night before you go to sleep use a light gel moisturizer like Clinique Dramatically different Moisturizing Gel. In the morning after you have washed your face use Neutrogena Oil-free moisture SPF 15. Overall the routine is use:

A.M.& P.M.- Biore Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser
A.M.-Neutrogena Oil-free moisture SPF 15
P.M.- Clinique Dramatically different moisturizing gel

Yeah, I could probably go on and on forever. lol. Anyways here are some home remedies:
-Dab a small amount of toothpaste (paste, not gel) on pimples before bed; this helps dry out the pimples.
-Mix equal amounts of lemon juice and rose water, apply to face with a cotton ball, and allow to sit for 30 minutes before rinsing. 15-20 days of this application helps cure pimples and also helps to remove blemishes and scars.
-Apply fresh lemon juice on the affected area overnight. Wash off with warm water next morning.
-For acne that hasn't seemed to respond to anything, steep 2-3 tsp. dried basil leaves in 1 cup boiling water for 10-20 minutes, cool, and apply to affected area with a cotton ball.

Also, carry some face-blotting paper during the day if that helps.

For your oily skin what I would recommend is there are products in stores that you can use, they are just the same as rubbing alcohol. So you could also use rubbing alcohol. Wash your face before bed at the least. They have products called Clean & Clear, I have found that stuff works VERY well for me. Well, hope I helped!

i used to have acne and the rubbing alcohol thing will stinggg a lot and will dry out your face. do it if you are DESPERATE.
see a derm if you can. it will change your life, i swear! The longer you wait, the longer it takes to get rid of it. <3
oh, ps. a good derm will also recommend you use some kind of moisturiser too.
no, skipping junk food won't make it magically disappear.
washing your face WILL NOT make a difference. it's not because your face it dirty. sometimes it's because it's too clean. take people in poor countries in africa (my derm worked there). they don't have proactive or whatever and rarely take showers. they pour oils on themselves for celebrations, etc. they have some of the clearest complexions ...

my aunt gave me this facial mask. it's called Meaningful Beauty by Cindy Drawford. You apply it twice a week. Ever since i've been usuing it my skin hasn't been as oily and it really does work. And trust me i know because nothing else really worked on my skin. I'm not sure where you can get it but you can probably look it up in google or something.

i'm not exactly sure what you should use. You should ask a dermatologist. I have really oily skin too. I use this thing called acne-free. Proactive doesn't work for me either but this does. You can find it in wal-mart. Also don't keep changing soaps or facial cleansers cause that actually makes you break out more. Find one thing that works for you and stick to it. Hope i helped.

LadyGoodman answered Friday December 30 2005, 4:15 pm:
Why don't you go to a dermatologist? People here say "proactive" because none of us our skin geniuses so you can't exactly expecct us to know some magic potion to your skin problems. A dermatologist can give you something stronger than proactive that will have a better chance of working.

HeartsLiesFriends answered Friday December 30 2005, 4:04 pm:
I know what you mean, Proactive didnt work for me neither, it actually made my face break out and caused an allergic reaction. Which kills. But heres what i would try:

St. Ives Clear Pore Cleanser: and its the one you can use with all face types. It costs like 4 bucks, but is worth it.

Or

Ance Cleanser Cream. I have store brand but you could get the one by clean && clear. You just put a layer on your face and leave it for a while. It really works and reduces the pimple over night.

I get both at walmart. But if you ever need an acne reducer, i would recommend one that has "Tea tree extract" in it. It helps to unclog pores and is very good.

:0) Hope i helped

shopoholicgrl answered Friday December 30 2005, 3:52 pm:
Here is a simple home solution:

-wash your face in the morning, afternoon, and at night with just water. do NOT scrub, just circular motions to get the dirt off.
-do not put your hands on your face, your hands attract alot of dirt and putting them on your face will clog your pores.
-drink alot of water. it will cleanse the face. i reccomend at least 3 bottles. if you can only drink two that is fine.
-try to stay off of sugar for about a week. all the sugar and junk food that goes into your body clogs the poors.

my mom told me to do this and it worked wonderful. my face cleared up in about 1-2 weeks.

good luck! hope i helped =]
