- Take a "vacation." Close your eyes and envision a place where you feel safe and relaxed -- it could be your favorite beach or under the covers in your bed. Allow yourself to really "be" there, experiencing what makes this place special to you. Breathe it in, open your eyes and take it with you.

- Keep a bottle of ylang ylang essential oil in your makeup bag. Take of sniff of this anxiety reliever when you start getting twitchy.

- Roar like a lion! Scrunch up your face and squeeze your whole body tight, then release everything wide with a sound, sticking your tongue out as far as you can. This alleviates tension big-time, plus you'll feel so silly you might even laugh.

- Decorate your space with fresh flowers. Symbolizing life and beauty, flowers are a perk for all the senses. If you feel like getting more ambitious, buy a plant. Gardening is very therapeutic in the treatment of depression, and although one plant isn't exactly a garden, it's a start.

- Give yourself a neck massage, rolling your knuckles over any painful spots. Better yet, get your mom or a friend to do it for you.

- Meditate on the breath. As you inhale, think "breathing in," and as you exhale, think "breathing out." Try this for five minutes. When your mind wanders just return to the breath.

- Try a mudra when you meditate. Mudras are symbolic hand positions which channel the flow of energy. The chin mudra, in which the thumb and index finger touch while the rest of the fingers are outstretched, is intended to clear the mind and bring peace.

- Stretch your legs. If possible, go outside and take a brief walk. The change of scenery, the fresh air, and the circulation of blood in your body will perk you up instantly.

- Try reflexology. The point on your foot which corresponds with your nerves is right smack in the middle, below the ball of your foot and in from the arch. Give it a good rub. If it hurts, that's normal. You're stressed out, after all.

- Press play. The power of sound to alter and elevate our moods has been widely documented. If you put on your favorite song, or any song for that matter, you will feel differently at the end of that song.

- Chant "om shanti shanti shanti" ("all is peace peace peace"). If it works for Madonna, why not you?

- Get steamed. Brew a cup of peppermint tea and place it on a table in front of you. Lean over and create a tent around the cup with your arms and head, breathing in this invigorating natural decongestant. Then, drink up.

- Roll your eyes. Tired eyes can cause mental strain, so give those babies a break. Roll both eyes to the left and right, up and down, and then in full circles, repeating in each direction. Close your eyes, rubbing your palms together until they're warm. Place gently over your closed eyes.

- Knock knock, who's there? Sit upright in a chair with your feet flat on the floor. With closed fists gently tap around your head in circular motions. Breathe slowly and deeply. This improves concentration and relieves headaches.

- Brew a cup of chamomile tea with two teabags. Chamomile has been used for centuries to treat nervousness and insomnia. Drink the tea, and when the teabags cool so that they are just warm to the touch place use them as eye compresses.

- Light a candle. If you like the scented variety, try lavender, which is a natural relaxant.

- Take a shower. The water pounding on your head stimulates your brain cells and literally gets you into a new "head space."

xoo hope this helps !! ♥

A lavender bath!
Seriously, drink some calming herbal tea and light some candles while taking a bath.
If you want you could listen to some music.
Try Enya.
She has a gorgeous voice and music that will make your whole body calm down.

take a hot bath with candles and breathe slowly and deeply. also it is relaxing to me to be on the computer and play games. also taking a walk helps . also studies have shown animals lower blood pressure so be around a dog or cat a little more. also always remember to do one thing at a time and realize rome wasnt built in a day. just every day remind yourself you can only do what "you" can do and thats it you are only one person. prioritize and make a list of important things to do and not so important and start from there . things that must get done that day at the top of the list then what is unimportant can wait. sometimes we focus on the whole picture and it blurs. divide things and tasks up so they wont seem like sucha hurricane.good luck hun

Sorry to hear. LOTS of people are probably feeling this way, especially around the holidays when vacation is so close yet so far.

1) Listen to some of your favorite music. I used to get terrible anxiety to the point where I was extremely uncomfortable and couldn't sit in one place for too long. I would listen to my favorite singers or bands and relax because singing the words or paying attention to the meaning of the lyrics distracted me from stress or anxiety.

2) Watch a movie with family or friends. Watch a holiday movie like Polar Express or Christmas with the Kranks. I think comedies would really help you unwind because you could laugh a little. It could be any movie really, not nescesarily a christmas movie.

3) Take a bath and allow yourself time to unwind a little and be clean at the same time :)

4) If your a girl...use your instinct! Go shopping, it always makes me feel better. New clothes are the greatest.

5) Call a friend up on the phone and talk a while. It gives you time to talk about your day.

6) Read a good book that you chose...it'll help you live in someone elses shoes for a while.

7) Take a nap after school. Whenever I do that, it helps me feel like a brand new person and I'm ready to do my homework. There's no point in me doing my homework when I feel half-asleep. Even if I do get a late start, atleast I'm more alert.

8) I know this answer sounds strange, but actually study hard for your tests if you don't already. You'll have less anxiety over tests because you'll be confident about taking them.

9) Write a little. About anything really. You can do a poem or start a novel.

10) If you are given certain assignments like for example, an essay, way ahead of it's due date, get it done as soon as possible! Less to worry about. Atleast start it early so you don't have to rush the night before the due date.

You could take a walk, listen to your favorite band's songs, read, or take a bath. These are just some ways to calm down and relax. If you tend to do your homework in the last minute, try not to. Do it when you get home from school and you'll have the rest of the evening to yourself to relax.

Mandee answered Sunday December 11 2005, 11:25 pm:
Most importantly, understand that some techniques may not work for you. This is because everyone has their differences in what makes them relax. The best thing to do is find out what works best for you.

As a 19 year old workaholic, I get stressed all the time. I spend my days working on creating my own fashion line company, while trying to pass my college classes, finishing my art, working the hours of my other job, taking care of my pets ( I have five ), managing my house, making sure I pay the bills, and still have time to hang out with my friends.

But here are some things that make me relax when I need to. I hope they work for you.

- Drinking hot tea. As weird as this sounds, drinking hot tea gives me that warm, fuzzy feeling. It makes you relax. I'm not sure why. You know what's better? If you sit down, and drink it. Why? Well, I don't know about you, but I often think that society is too rushed. Everyone always thinks about what they need to do and the future. They miss out on enjoying their current moment because they are too focused on what they SHOULD be doing. Relax first, then do that later. haha

- Walking. I love it! It's really refreshing to me. I love taking my dogs for a walk and listening to my music. It's quiet calming. Even though I tend to listen to alternative, screamo, metal music. ( and others ) but, yeah. It's nice!

- Listening to your favorite music. Enough said.

- Reading. It gets you thinking about something else for a chance. And it kind of puts you at ease.

- Going to Starbucks. You'll find that the atmosphere is calming in quiet. It's a place where you can go to have your favorite cup of coffee and read or just think about things on your mind.

- Drawing/talking/writing. It depends on who you are and what you like to do. But these are some of the most common ways to relax yourself. My favorite is drawing. Because I love art and painting or sketching is one of my favs.

-Bubble bath/ Hot tub/ shower. Hot water. =D

- Sleep. Seriously, a good night of sleep will make you feel so much better. Plus, you're not awake, so it's like you actually can't worry about anything.

I know schools hard, believe me. And honestly, if you're in highschool and plan to go to college, it gets harder. You're stuck with more responsibility and sometimes you just want to go back to being a kid and not be so independent. But you got to know how to relax, because if you don't it just builds up. You're pretty much capable of doing anything you want. My mom told me once that if you let yourself fall, you're the only one who has to pick yourself back up again. No one can do it for you. And I used to think she was crazy, but now I value that whole concept. Take it day by day and try to do what you can do for that day. If you can't get all you wanted to do, don't stress over it. Know that you did what you could do and take time for yourself and relax. Rather than beat yourself over what you're doing wrong, think of what you did that was good. It will improve your self esteem.

(You can drop one in my inbox if you need some song suggestions I have plenty)

Go take a walk in a park or just around your block or you can jog too.

take little steps like getting together with teachers during a free period or after school..get extra help, do your homework after school in the library *or at least get a heads start on it* so when you go home you have less to worry about.
relaxx for 1/2 hour - 1 hr ..watch tv..just chill out. then tackle hw little by little..take a 15 minute break every hour to go online or do whatever. maybe do homework with friends a couple times a week and see how that goes.
i think if you manage your time so you have your work done by 8 or 9 ..this way you have an hour or so to relax and have free time..i think you will start to feel better.
