God put animals on the earth to eat... im suggesting that you should eat meat also because it has the proteins you need, without them, you become unhealthy. you dont have to take this advice, but im saying this is really good...

BeautifulMadness answered Sunday November 6 2005, 5:13 pm: Go to www.quorn.co.uk!! They have tons of recipies! You might not have quorn in your country but if you do I highly recommend it. It's very low fat, very healthy and tastes great. It doesn't taste quite like meat either so you won't feel like you're eating a dead animal anymore. If you don't have quorn, you will have SOME kind of meat substitute thing, and your local supermarket should have a vegetarian section. Check it out for meals to buy or ideas you can cook.
You can also use soya or tofu (personally I think tofu is gross but apparently lots of people like it) as a replacement for meat in your cooking. You can use vegetables for the same thing, like vegetable lasagne or curry instead of meat.
Pot noodles are all vegetarian because it is impossible to dry meat and then re-hydrate it without it going disgusting. So check out the packets but most will say 'soya pieces' instead of meat. This is true of most things you pour water on to cook (instant noodles etc).
Good luck, and if you have any other questions feel free to send one to my inbox!
Oh, and P.S. Yes, like people have said, it IS difficult but it's also really rewarding!! I've been a vegetarian for five years now and I love it. Did you know EACH vegetarian saves an acre of trees every year because there is less demand for cattle and pigs and sheep etc so less grazing room is needed?! How cool is that!
The hardest thing is definately going to a restaurant and being stuck with what to order. However most GOOD places will do a variety of pasta vegetarian dishes at LEAST, most even have vegetarian sections on their menus. If a place only offers you cauliflower cheese, walk out. That stuff is disgusting.
Don't worry if you can't do it at first. It took me three attempts; I kept eating chicken burgers lol!
And finally, watch out for glycerin in ANYTHING. It's mainly in cheese, toothpaste and jelly. If it's spelt 'glycerine', you're OK because it's fake, but without the e it is actually cow's stomach lining, and a few vegetarians do avoid this (I'm one of them). It's fairly easy once you find a brand of toothpaste that doesn't use the stuff, and I know Rowntrees jelly doesn't use it. As for cheese, it's labelled on it whether it's veggie or not so you don't need to trawl through the ingredients list. It's basically in anything that needs setting, so watch out for it. sizzlinmandolin answered Sunday November 6 2005, 2:58 pm: One of my best friends decided to become a vegetarian awhile ago and she had a very hard time with it for many reasons. I want to make sure you know what you're getting into so you don't have the same problems as she did. If you are going to be a vegetarian you have to be very committed to it. It's hard. When you go to a restaurant there's usually not that many vegetarian entrees and you may not like any of them. You may eat something with meat in it and not realize it until after. Our society just doesn't facilitate vegitarianism. Another thing you need to look out for is keeping a balanced diet. When you don't eat any meat, you're not getting very much protein, which can be really bad for you. You have to eat other things with protein in them. One more thing is that you need to decide what type of vegetarian you want to be. Some vegitarians will eat seafood, others will eat chicken, others will eat no meat at all and then there's vegan vegetarians who eat no products that come from animals whatsoever (like milk, eggs etc.). It's a really good thing what you're doing and I respect you a lot for it. Being a vegetarian is a very good thing to do.
I think that the best thing you can do to make sure that you get a balanced diet, not just a diet without meat, is to purchase a book about vegetarianism. There are lots of them out there and they will help you get the right amount of protein and give you really great recipes. Sure I can sit here and tell you, well grilled cheese doesn't have any meat in it, salad doesn't have any meat....but there's more to being a vegetarian than that. You could figure that stuff out on your own anyways. Another suggestion is to see a dietician. I think that this is the best thing that you can do. A dietician specializes in this kind of thing and will be able to help you a LOT. Being a vegetarian my be difficult, but if you see a dietician and buy recipe books and everything it will be so much easier. One last thing, vegetarianism isn't for everybody. Don't make trying to impress your friends the only reason to stick to it. I hope that everything works out for you and good luck! <3<3 [ sizzlinmandolin's advice column | Ask sizzlinmandolin A Question ]

lulabelle answered Sunday November 6 2005, 12:38 pm: I'm a vegetarian and have been so for years. There are all kinds of things you can have that is meatless. You can have meatless lasagna. Just make it the same way you always do and leave the meat out. I also like to add spinach to it. I use oat grouts in the chili along with the beans to give it that consistency of meat. Also, and I know this is going to sound weird. Add a tablespoon of cocoa to your chili. It will add a wonderful flavor to the chili. The correct kind of chocolate is one of the best antioxidants you can have. It can only be cocoa. It actually tastes better and of course is healthier. You can make any pie just don’t add the eggs. I eat raw and living foods. I will include some web sites for you. This way you can explore what will work best for you. The first three are raw and living foods. Something I think everyone should add more of into their diets. The last three are vegetarian. The last one has tons of recipes for you to choose from. Also, look in the phone book in your hometown. I’m sure there are vegan restaurants in your area.
KatLynn answered Sunday November 6 2005, 12:25 pm: Why would someone want to become a Vegetarian because they don't like meat and because their friends/family doesn't think they'll last? Do you even know what the reasons behind becoming a vegetarian are? I highly doubt that you do. Oh and the reason you gave in number 2 makes no sense at all. They're 2 different things that call for different actions. This all seems like a bet to prove stupid shit to me and I bet that you won't last more than a few days.
