Question Posted Thursday August 25 2005, 2:28 am

i know this sounds childesh, but my mom gave me a puppy for my birthday and theres just one problem. she wants to have him fixed. and i dont want to have him fixed. it will hurt him and think it's his choice to reoproduce or not. but my mom says he'll be less aggresive and then she had the nerve to tell me it's her house and what she says go's. i dont want to have him fixed but my mom's being a total bitch. how do i convince my mom that it's unfair to fix a dog, and he's mine not hers.

You'd be doing your dog (and yourself) a favor if you fix him. Neutered dogs are less likely to be aggresive towards other dogs, and they're less likely to mark their territory, which could end up saving your carpet. Plus, if you neuter a dog when they're young, they never fully get their adult personality. Meaning, your dog will stay his sweet puppy self.

To tell you the truth.. it is best to have a dog fixed... she's right about them being less agressive... and it's not as painful as you think it is. They don't feel a thing. They're put to sleep and given pain medication to take care of any pain the dog may feel. Also, it will keep the dog from wandering. Which means, it's less likely to run around looking for a female dog... Dogs who wander in seach of females can stay gone from anywhere to 1 - 2 months... And sometimes the dogs get hit by cars, taken to animal shelters... trust me.. it's best to have the dog fixed.

umm is it a he or her ?? cause if its a he they wont reproduce you know so you dont have to get it fixed. but if its a SHE then it will reproduce if it does it with another dog.i dont think your mom will like that cause it too much responsibility for her.... they dont hurt the dog i think they do something to the reproductive system.so it doesnt reproduce.

hope it helped...:)

Well I think you should get your dog fixed because when they get a lil bit older they will start humping things from people to other dogs and your dog dose not even think bout having kids that is just something that happens to them they don’t really think that hey I want to have kids they just want to have sex and I think that it would be best if you do get your dog fixed.

i see what you mean, i got a dog for chrsitmas. and my mom told me we had to get it fixed. its really not a big deal. but yea the dog is in pain very much. but it would be could get her fixed for he or she wont have sex with another dog and get pregant. if its a girl then YES you should get it fixed. only beacuse boy dogs are rude and nasty to the girl dogs. trust i know because my granpa had one and 1 female. the male was all way slicking her ass, and humping her, and the female dog had no control what so ever. but still thats a tough one. your right, it is your dog, so you make very decsion you want. and you need to tell your mom and say "mom please i dont want my dog to be fixed, its going to be in a lot of pain. my freinds dog got fixed and it was in bad pain, i will be carful and mak sure it doesnt intercat with another dog unless its the same sex" you need to say someting like that o her. and if its a yes! well WOW! you fun. but if its a no then i dont know what to say. dont you have a dad you can talk to? and plus getting a dog fixed is a lot of money!! O and if its just a "puppy" its way to young to get fixed right now. its not going to have sex yet with another dog. your mom should wait till its older. well good luck! ;)

I know how you feel. But fixing a dog actually is healthier in the long run. I know you say that it is his choice to reproduce, but dogs don't really have the conscience to think, "Hmm, can I take care of 7 puppies? No, I think I will wait a year." So basically if you don't get him fixed he will try to reproduce...it's just in their nature. Hope I helped

well im with your mom on this one. you should get him fixed. it wont really hurt him at all cause he will be asleep the whole time and it will make him better behaved and acually smell better. just wait till he is 6 monthes old thats the best time to get it done.

First, I have to let you know that it really isn't too painful for male dogs. Female are the ones that have the more complicated and painful operations.

Second, your dogs choice to reproduce results in so many little puppies who have to be put to sleep every year that area accidents and are unwanted. It also results in strays who wander the streets starving.

Your mom probably brought up the issue that it is her house because male dogs are often known to be more aggressive. This results in much more ruined furniture and torn up carpet. In other words, thousands of dollars of repair over the dogs lifetime.

I think that it is best for your mom, you, and your dog to get your dog fixed. If not for that, think of the starving strays and the puppies that are put down because people chose not to have their dogs go through a simple opperation.

It is your mom's house. What she says should go. I'm sorry if you don't like that, but until you can live on your own, that's just a fact of life.

Now, on the puppy front... I've read that it's good for a dog to be fixed. Yes, it may hurt a bit now, even though they do use anesthesia on the pup. But in the long run, it could save them pain and possibly save their lives.

A few links for you to peruse...

The most important issue here should be the pup and his health and well being. Do some research, talk to some veterinarians about the pros and cons of having the pup fixed, contact your local branch of the ASPCA (I'm sure they'll be more than happy to give you some information).

If you love that pup, you'll find out what's best for him and do it, even if it means agreeing with your mother.

Good luck,
bound

Your mom is right. Dogs really don't have many scruples when it comes to reproducing. They don't use birth control! I mean they aren't gonna stick around and take care of the hundreds of puppies they can produce. It is cruel some of the things people do to unwanted puppies when they are born.
I don't think you want that to happen so its best to have him fixed. They will take care so as not to hurt him. He won't go wandering out of the yard to find a girlfriend and get run over. It is perfectly fine to have him fixed okay? It is the humane thing to do. Enjoy your pup. :)

think about the little ones that nobody wants. I have seen where they are thrown into the dumpsters. I've seen where they are left in a box out on the highway! Go to a city dog pound where there are dogs and puppies that are put to sleep because they are over-crowded!
