hi to all you kitty lovers im 32 and alergic to cats but i found two adorable kittys abandoned by there mother under my house so i had to y=take them i went to the doctor he gave me zyertec is fabulous the key fact to getting the upper hand and traing them is to have a water bottle on hand in the house at all times one little sqiurt and they will catch on pretty quick its not cruel my vet says that they do not reconize the water as your hand so no matter how many times you have to discipline them they will still lokk at you as there safe haven do this when you are wanting to be alone on the couch , or when there digging inthe plants or climbing on the curtains ,etc.
thing is there will do what ever it is they want until you show them whos boss , and they will do it for along time lets face there bored and full of energy so limit them to when your down time is
i promise you they will still love you if not more
my kittys are 9 months old fisty and hiper but all i have to do now is show them the sqiurt bottle and they run sqiurt intil they reconize the bottle you will see a difference good luck

my cat does it 2 your cat must really love you bt they only want attention so either ignore them and it will get bored or play with your cat more often it probably feels unloved good luck x

Wow-ur cat must really love you. The cat probably thinks of you as its mother and follows you like they always show ducklings doing. Whenever the cat follows you or gets on the couch beside you, put it down on the floor, tap its nose and say firmly, NO,BAD. Eventually the cat should realize that it should not follow you all the time. Tell me how it turns out!

If she's annoying you, I would just ignore her. Eventually she should get bored and find something else to do.

My cats are outside, but they used to be inside... They just want love- just pet them for three minutes, and then send them on their way. If you need to, put them in a room where they can't get out, where they can crawl on something else instead of you.

My cat pumpkin does the same thing! It just means they love you, and if you shut the door and lock them out, then they won't be mad. he/she just really adores you. does the cat have any experience with other cats? that are the oppisite sex, because if she/he does that with the other oppisite sex cat, then get him/her neutered/spayed if he/she isn't already.

Hope I Helped,

thumble answered Sunday April 3 2005, 11:30 am:
I'm afraid you're gonna hafta shmack 'em in the head. Or do something to put the fear of the lap in her. Otherwise it won't stop, and it'll just keep getting bigger and bigger and you'll be stuck with a big fat old cat on your lap and it won't be cute at all.

Alternatively reward her somehow for staying on the floor when the lap is available. Just make the floor more appealing somehow.

It's annoying at times isn't it? I have 5 cats and they do that all the time. When you sit down somewhere, make sure she can't get in your lap. Like put your knees up. When she follows you, pick her up, pet her, give her a little bit of food, and walk away. It may not work in the beginning, but keep working at it.
good luck!

P.S.-- DOn't be mean to the cat at all, then she'll get depressed!

My cats do the same thing and it can get annoying after a while. I know this may sound weird.. but it works for me lol. Just be like to your cat "I love you but i really need to do this.. PLEASE just leave me alone for a little bit" You may think that cats dont understand but if you say it and then push her off.. shell eventually realize that you dont want her by u at the moment.. works with my cats (believe it or not)

FunnyCide answered Sunday April 3 2005, 12:52 am:
Hmm.. my cat does this too. If it is keeping you from doing something you should be doing (homework..) then lock the cat in the bathroom, bedroom, closet etc. If you're willing to attempt to discourage this habit, whenever you're sitting down, and your cat tries to sit with you, take a spray bottle full of water (anything else might hurt her) and spritz her once for every time she attempts to sit in your lap. Pretty soon she'll get the idea, and go somewhere else. Also, if you ignore a cat, they get bored quite easily, but as long as you're paying attention to them, they'll stay with you. (there are acceptions to this, mind you!) If you've got somewhere that the cat knows is a 'no-no', sit there. For instance, if your cat would be in BIG trouble if she sat on a certian chair, sit on that chair. If you don't want to use water, take a newspaper (only a few sheets), roll it up, and every time she tries to sit with you, push her away, pop her once on the rear, and say, "No" firmly.

It's just a normal cat thing. She probably wants food, so you should feed her. Or kick her. But some people, myself included, have major problems with that sort of behavior.

You spray water on them and make loud noises. It scares them.
