Question Posted Monday March 14 2005, 4:38 pm

I got my ears pierced at Claires 8 weeks ago. My left ear lobe started hurting and bleeding a teeny bit and shedding skin from the back when i changed into my second pair of sensitive earrings. What's wrong with my ear?? Is it infected?? It's a teeny bit red withthat white thingy and when you squeeze it it hurts a teeny bit. What should I do? I RATE 5'S

Sometimes they hurt if they are on really tight. When you twist them it may aggravate it too.Call Claires and see what they have to say about it.

ok first off take out the earings and clean your ears with hydrogen peroxide. Clean your earings by soking them in hydrogen peroxide. don't leave them out too long or the holes will grow in. Continue this procedure every night. It will help with the bleeding and pain. If it doesn't stop you need new earings get some real gold or silver earings that will help if it then goes down and gets better you know that you have sensetive ears that can't handle crapy earings.

Deffinitly dont switch earings for about like 2 weeks. Try using rubbing alcohol on them. What are you cleaning them with? Also make sure you use gold earings because silver sometimes irritates peoples ears. I recomend use studs in your ears instead of hoops at this time. If they continue to stay red for more then 2 months then deffinitly go to the doctor. It could be infected. I would recomend go to the doctor now but you could also wait it out.

Make sure you leave the original earring from the piercing shop in them. Because depending on your ear and the way your body reacts to pierceings, it might take your pierceing longer than it should to heal..but cleaning it with alcohol and twisting it 3 times a day is good for it and should help clear the infection up...just keep cleaning it and leave one type of earring in it for a while. the best type of earrings are surgical steel.

You shouldn't have twisted them. I know they tell you to twist them when you get them done but should you really take advice from someone who went to a thirty minute class on how to put a gun to someones ear and shoot shredded metal through it? I think not. Just let it be, don't change the jewelry and use the antiseptic that they gave you at claires to clean it. Also take an anti-bacterial soap and clean it. If it doesn't get better in about two weeks go to Wal*Mart and get a sea salt and mix it with warm water and put it on there with a q-tip, not a cotton ball. Cotton ball fibers are too loose and might get into your open wound.

It SOUNDS like they could be infected, but I'm not sure. Tell someone in your family. You may need to wear good earrings, like 14k gold or something, that's what I need to do.

Hope I helped.

Just keep doing what you are doing. They don't sound too bad, if they get worse, you may have to take the earrings out, let your ears close up, and get them repierced later, but this isn't likely. Try not to mess with them too much, and keep cleaning them lots. (About twice a day. Any more might aggrivate them)

When i got my third piercing on my ear, I changed the earings (I cleaned my twice a day and twisted them twice a day too) and my ear bled too. It wasn't that bad or anything. My mom told me it was pretty normal and to just not touch it and clean it and just make sure its okay. So I think you're fine! Hope I helped ya!

This happened to me. I got it pierced at Claires too. It ended up getting infected. My skin started to grow over the earring and it was horrible! At first it hurt just a little bit but then it started getting worse. I would advise you to keep an extremely close look on it before you have to take out the earring. I think it'll be fine if you take really good care of it. Make sure your hair doesn't get caught in it or anything! That's how mine started to get infected. I hope everything works you for you!

Scribble answered Monday March 14 2005, 5:12 pm:
Well any piercing will 'weep'- secrete a clear liquid as it tries to heal itself. It will also hurt a bit if you squeeze it. If it starts to secrete a coloured (usually yellowish white) pus then it is infected, the swelling should also have gone down by 8 weeks. Firstly clean it with a saline solution (boiled water with loadsa salt dissolved in it) then try not to touch it as your hands will have bacteria on them no matter how clean they are. If it keeps hurting, go see your doctor, but try not to change the earrings to much as this will irritate the piercing.
