I don't know what's wrong with me.

Question Posted Thursday December 16 2004, 3:02 pm

I don't understand this. I've been studying Psycology for years, yet I don't get why I can't fall asleep. I was diagnosed with Insomnia when I was 8. This isn't Insomnia. When I lay down to goto sleep, I get scared. As if something is in the room with me. Last night I went to sleep and I felt something behind me. I've been having this problem for 3 months. My doctor said it's normal, that it's just Anxiety, but I CAN'T goto sleep. What should I do?

If you live with family then get someone to sleep with you. Yes it might sound childish but it will help you to get to sleep safely. If you live alone then get a pet and let that pet sleep with you. Or you could just stay up until you get really tired and fall asleep!
Here to help!

You could try sleeping with the lights on! Or listen to music or watch t.v while trying to go asleep. That would probably get your mind off whatever your thinking about that makes you scared! Hope I helped... <3 Good Luck

I dont know what you could do to get asleep but i also have that same problem. Everytime i go to sleep i have to have some kind of light on or something with me because i feel like it i dont have one of those two things while i am alone something bad will happen to me. I dont know what it is...i guess me and you could say we are afraid of the dark or whats in it. Ive always had this problem and i get up and walk the house because i always have a bad feeling. I wish i knew what to tell you because i dont like being this way either if u find out something let me know.

I think that you need to make it clear that you really have a problem and if that doesn't work than go see another doctor so you could get some help for that i alwayz have that but i don't care about it cause i dunno i get used to it like that.

You've probably already thought of tbis, and it's probably not the reason why you can't sleep, but maybe you're subconsciously afraid of the dark. I don't know...Just a suggestion!!!

Well.... studing phycology and hearing all kinds of stories and events can really start to get to you its all up in your head. sleeping pills might. Also if you live alone you might feel that there is no one to protect you!

zapreth answered Thursday December 16 2004, 4:27 pm:
Clonipin. This will help you get through this rough patch. You won't have to be on it forever. Sometimes anxiety is triggered by things we don't recognize. You may be having night terrors or other bad dreams that your body is trying to avoid. This can create the paranoia you are feeling before sleep. Talk to your doctor and tell him that this is interupting your life. Ask him about Clonipin. I knew someone who needed both clonipin and trazadone due to stress and PTSD to keep his night terrors at bay.
Good luck!

dreamingkat answered Thursday December 16 2004, 4:21 pm:
As a temporary measure while you keep looking for medical solutions, you can see if any of these appeal to you:

* keep a nigh light on
* put some glow in the dark stuff up on the walls in the areas that have the deepest scariest shadows. It'll break up the shadow a bit.
* if you believe in a deity, say a prayer like "now I lay me down to sleep, I pray [deity] to grant me sleep. Guard me [deity] through the night, and wake me with the morning light". It may need some adaptations to fit your preference, but that shouldn't be too hard. if once doesn't work, keep repeating it. The repetition should help lull your brain to sleep - or at least into a restful trance.
* envision your bed in an egg of energy. nothing harmful can come into this egg, it's perfectly safe to go to sleep inside your egg.
* mark your room as a safe place. look up a gliff of protection in a favorite culture of yours. Many people seem to like the Norse Runes for this sort of thing. Put the gliff on the entries into the room.

Please note that while some of these things are taken from magical and religious practices, there is no inherent supernatural power in the acts. I've merely given you the external trappings to help you trick yourself. :)

Yeah, that sounds like anxiety to me. Have you tried adjusting your surroundings to counter this? If you think you see something, sleep with a small light on, if you think you hear something, fall asleep with the TV or music on. I used to have the same problem. I sleep with the TV on.
