Question Posted Wednesday December 15 2004, 3:22 pm
What's the step below going out? This guy said he likes me and wants to be the step below going out, because he doesn't think "going out" at this age is a good idea. We're more than friends though, I know that.. Any ideas on what it could be?
Additional info, added Wednesday December 15 2004, 6:21 pm: Okay I just wanted to say, it's NOT friends with benefits, because that's the whole reason we're not going out. He's not into the whole holding hands and stuff, cuz his last girlfriend used him just to do that stuff.. Want to answer more questions in the Relationships category? dancinqueen08 answered Thursday December 16 2004, 4:15 pm: There isn't a step below going out. Most of the time going out isn't even anything. It's just basically recognizing that you both like each other and that I guess you both have "dibs" on each other. [ dancinqueen08's advice column | Ask dancinqueen08 A Question ]

S_C answered Thursday December 16 2004, 6:17 am: Well, I'd think it's friends w/ benefits, but since you say it isn't... Then maybe just close friends, or best friends. Going to movies together except not holding hands and not kissing or any of that, just walking together and going out to eat together and going to movies together, stuff like that would be the level below going out. Hope I've helped!! [ S_C's advice column | Ask S_C A Question ]
Berri answered Wednesday December 15 2004, 8:02 pm: A lot of people think that "dating" and "going out" are two different things. They say that dating is where you..well, go on dates, but you can also date other people. I guess it's more for people who don't want the commitment. And then "going out" is where you only with each other, and going on a date with someone else would be cheating. So I guess dating would be the step under.
But then you said he's not into the holding hands thing. I guess you could just go on dates and not touch each other...I think that's more like just being friends, though.
Karen answered Wednesday December 15 2004, 6:20 pm: The step below going out is "friends with benefits" This means that he wants to do things that a normal couple would do like hold hands, kiss, make out, have oral sex, etc.! Hope I helped :)

Daisy answered Wednesday December 15 2004, 5:48 pm: I think it's just seeing eachother once in a while and maybe kissing and stuff but not actually goin out as in not calling eachother boyfriend and girlfriend. Could he mean a sort of open realtionship where its ok to kiss other girls? Or maybe he wants to get to know you better before you make the decision? [ Daisy's advice column | Ask Daisy A Question ]

beauteful_withn answered Wednesday December 15 2004, 3:36 pm: he means that he doesnt want to be boyfriend and girlfriend but he wants to date. you can be seeing someone but not actually be their girlfriend. like you hang out do things like hold hands, cuddle, and maybe even kiss. but your not actually taken. you are still considered single.- its something that as you get older you tend to do. its a "adult" relationship. Briht_knee_89 answered Wednesday December 15 2004, 3:34 pm: well it sounds like you guys are what all of me and my friends call 'talking' as in you guys really like each other and it's a mutual feeling. and you couldd go out if you wanted to, but instead you guys are talking as more than just friends. so if i had to say sumthin below 'goin out' but 'more then friends' id say you 2 were talking. ;). hope i helped. and good luck w/ur boy, hunny!! <3 Brittany >Merry x*mas< [ Briht_knee_89's advice column | Ask Briht_knee_89 A Question ]

xXxpinky615xXx answered Wednesday December 15 2004, 3:31 pm: Well from what it sounds like you're "together" with him or "seeing eachother" and you don't have an exclusive relationship. An exclusive relationship is basically when you refer to the other person as your boyfriend/girlfriend. Hope this helped. [ xXxpinky615xXx's advice column | Ask xXxpinky615xXx A Question ]
