okay, well i have a black dad and a white mom.. well i dont have white hair and i dont have black hair either.. but its frizzy. it looks REALLY pretty when its straightened, but when you dont put special stuff on it, it looks bad.. anyway, is there any special straightening stuff that you guys know of to put on my hair? (link)
Have you considered having your hair relaxed? It's like a perm- except instead of making straight hair curly, it makes curly hair straight. Probably would work well for you. If you're interested, ask your hairdresser about it next time you go in for a haircut.

For everyday straightening, use a straightening serum, like Frizz-Ease. Also, make sure you're using a good conditioner.

It is always a competition between my best friend and I for who can get a better tan over the course of the summer. We do it naturally by laying outside instead of fake baking. We don't tan ecessivley or anything, but lately I've been wondering about skin cancer and all that. My mom told me to use some sun tan lotion to block the violent rays of the sun..but will that stop me from getting a good tan? Thx (link)
Most of what I've read and heard lately is that current research is saying that many cases of skin cancer are probably caused by really bad sunburn as a younger child, and not by tanning like people think.

So tanning a lot isn't necessarily going to increase your chance of skin cancer.

However, excessive tanning does cause premature wrinkles. You know those women with really rough leathery skin and wrinkles at age 40 who look a lot older than they actually are? Those are the women who probably spent their young summers tanning.

So cosmetically, you have to decide what's the greater of the two evils- being paler now, or looking 60 at age 40?

Sunscreen, like SPF 15, SPF 20, SPF 30, SPF 45, is designed to protect your skin from the sun's rays. If you slather up with it, you're not going to tan as quickly. However, suntan lotion or oil with a low SPF, like SPF 4 or SPF 8, isn't going to slow down you tan very much, or provide a lot of protection either.

I personally choose to use SPF 15. I feel protected, yet still tan a little. However, if I'm spending all day in the sun (like at camp or a waterpark), I go for something stronger.

For school I have to dress up in 1960s fashion. I dont really know what they wore though, I dont know to do somthing 70s by mistake..

I was thinking of a tye dye shirt...

Are those big brigh earrings 60s?

any ideas? :) i want to get into it hahh! (link)
the 60's were all about hippies, peace, and flower power.

Bell bottoms, tie-dye, peace signs, flowy skirts, flowers, smiley faces, anti-war buttons, peasant blouses,... any of these would work.

Long hair was pretty common. If you've got fairly long hair, wear it down. You could also put a few little braids in it, and possibly weave in some daisies.

As long as I could remeber and all my friends can agree ive looked the same ...ponytail and well obviously my cloths but i dont care about that( i go to a private school so i have to wear a unfiorm) so I think its time ofr a change, what are some things i could do with, bascily me and my hair that would be diffrent other than a pony tail. Nothing to drastic but just a change. If it helps i have shoulder length blounde hair. Thanks and please help!!!

(link)
My first thought was to cut it short- like a chin length bob or something, but you said you don't want drastic.

Highlights could be fun.

Try a french braid.

if your ponytail is usually high, wear it low, or vice versa.

Try wearing it down with a headband, or the sides pulled back with clips.

You could crimp or curl your ponytail.

I hope some of these ideas help! :)

Ugh...okay I HATE my clothes. I went through this whole phase recently of "I care what everyone else thinks and my opinion doesnt matter". And that includes clothes. I wear the same old crappy polo tees from hollister and stupid jeans and stupid shoes. I just look like every other boring un-unique "prep". Well, i've finally grown out of this. I now want to start dressing like my personality which is edgy, unique, and artsy. I like rock/emo/indie music if it helps? I'm looking for some fashion tips (example...stuff like wearing your belt to the side, etc.) And some stores online I could check out to help me dress more "edgy". Also, i dont have alot of money. How can i rock out a plain polo? Any hair ideas? Makeup ideas? I hate dressing "preppy" when inside im not like that. THANKS! (link)
How can you rock out in a plain polo? With attitude. It's really not about what you wear, but how you wear it.

Wear your polo over a long sleeved thermal, preferably in bright mis-matched colors. Add pins, a fun scarf, or whatever other accessories you like. Cut the toes of a pair of striped socks, and wear them as arm warmers. Wear your kid brother's pokemon t-shirt over your polo with the collar sticking out.

Crimp your hair instead of straightening or scrunching it. Buy cheap plastic little kid barrettes to pull back the sides. Braid it, wear low pigtails.

Thrift shop. As someone else said, Salvation Army. Also try Goodwill, or Ragstock if you've got one nearby. Also raid closets- if the family member it belongs to doesn't want it anymore, make it work for you.

Skirts are fun. Making a long, flowy skirt is fairly easy, if you've got a few yards of plain fabric and a little sewing knowledge (or you know someone who does)

Really, just start small. Show your personality through the little things like color matching and accessories. Gradually add more edgy pieces of clothing to your wardrobe. If you make it a sudden change, you're more likely to come accross as just wearing a new costume of a different stereotype. You're much better off experimenting gradually to find your own style.

I'm new this year at my private school, and it's really strict! I mean, REALLY strict. Anyway, every year they have a picnic at the park, with water balloons and good food. (Finally! A time to dress casual at school!) but I just found out that girls have to wear skirts...at a picnic?! I don't know what to wear when I go, and how I can stay comfortable and look good too. It also has to be something I can get dirty because we're gonna have water guns and stuff. If you have a sollution on where to shop, thanks!
~Alexa~ (link)
Yikes, that's pretty stupid. How do they expect girls to be able to participate fully in a good water balloon fight if they're all dressed up in skirts?!

Is it possible for you to bring shorts to change into for the games?

Maybe try a jean skirt (with stretch to be comfy if you can find it) that reaches at least to your knees. I was going to suggest khaki, but that'd get dirty easily. If you think you're going to get bamboozled with water guns, wearing a thin cotton flowered skirt or something probably isn't the best idea, unless you like it when everyone can see what color undewear you have on.

On top, wear a knit t-shirt- something that looks nice, and somewhat dressy, but something with some stretch that you can move in. I say t-shirt instead of tank top, because if you're outside all day it's good to think about preventing sunburn.

I like Old Navy for this sort of outfit, but you can probably find something similar at Kohls, JC Penny's, etc.

i'm going on a trip to a law center this week

theres no dress code, but you should look presentable..we're part of a mock jury..any ideas? (link)
Black pants or khakis is probably your best bet. A skirt (not a short one! knee length at least) would also be good.

On top, any nice shirt, polo, or sweater would work. Be sure it's not too low-cut, and without words is more dressy.

I have very dry skin and I was wondering if anyone knew of a really good body scrub that is fragrance free?? I have very sensitive skin and I can't use anything that has ANY kind of fragrance!! Thanks!! :) (link)
Have you tried a home-made scrub? Almond oil (or any vegetable oil) and sugar makes a good scrub.

EDIT: here's a recipe for a sugar scrub that was posted a few months ago on the spacefem forums (not by me)

hi im 15 and i have long hair, like every other guy at school. but it looks really bad, like its always messed up when i wake up. it looks good with a hat on, but without nething..*twitch* ne ideas to what i can do to make it look good in like 5-10 minutes? thx (link)
combs work wonders. So do trips to the barber.

I'm going to a car show tomorrow with my boyfriend. It's suppose to be 72 degrees. I don't know what to wear, or how I should wear my hair(it's right below shoulder length)
Please help.
(link)
Hmmm... car show. Think outdoors and dusty. At least, that's what every car show I've been to has been like. So wear jeans or capris, and comfy shoes (think tennis shoes, not flip-flops). Wear a cute springy shirt, something flirty, since this is a date. Hair- down is sexy, but if it looks like it'll be windy or even just breezy, you're much better off wearing it up.

Is it an old cars show? If so, then it might be fun to go with a more retro look- now don't go over the top or anything, but capris and a twinset with cat's-eye sunglasses from the 50's would be fun. Or a retro t-shirt with a bowling or music logo.

Ok.. im goin to be a godmother... and... i have no clue what to wear!! its in the middle of may and the baptisim is gonna be in Atlanta Georgia! i am 13 years old.. almost 14.
Thanks! (link)
Church clothes, basically.

Wear a nice skirt or dress. Not something too short or low cut, since this is a church event. Dress pants or capris would be okay too, if you're not a dress person.

Since it's May, your best bet is a spring dress or skirt with pretty pastel flowers. Many stores have this sort of thing right now, so a cute outfit shouldn't be to hard to find.

Wear shoes you can walk and stand in- you'll be standing still at least 5-10 minutes while the ceremony takes place.

Now, I'm assuming this baptism will take place inside a church, but if it's outside or something, you'll want to consider a different outfit- maybe capris and more sturdy shoes, and a light sweater, and an umbrella in case it rains.

thongs are like really in and i was wondering if anyone who has used one can give my pros and cons of wearing them since at this rate i'll never where one myself (link)
My mom doesn't think I should wear thong undies either (though now I'm 18, I could if I wanted, but I still haven't bought one yet) She has the impression that they're so uncomfortable.

But I do know girls that thongs are all they wear, and they think thongs are more comfy than regular undies.

And I guess I hadn't heard that thongs are "in," and I don't really understand why it matters... since the majority of people you see do NOT see your underwear.

So wearing thongs for the reason that your pantylines would show (like when wearing dress pants or tight fitting pants or some skirts) makes sense. But wearing a thong just because the magazines say you should- that doesn't seem like a good reason to me.

So one pro is no pantyline, and another is that they're cute to buy

Cons:
-"slut" stereotype
-can't wear pads when you've got your period... and if you leaked, it could go on your pants, not your undies

I did't mention the comfort factor in my short list of pros/cons, since like I already said, I've heard various opinions on that one. Some girls I know only wear thongs with dress pants to avoid the pantyline, others wear them almost all the time... I guess it really depends.

I ave this "condition" called lumbar lordosis where your lower back curves out so your butt really sticks out. I went to physical therapy and got kick butt abs to control it and now its a lot better. You can barely tell. But I have trouble fitting into jeans (i have to get a few sizes larger), skirts (the sideseam curves), and shorts and capris. I'm skinny and i know i have a good body to fit into this stuff, but it's the back-curving-out-slightly problem that won't let me wear anything but long shorts and huge jeans. Can i have some help or stores where i can get some good clothes?? 13/f SHOULD wear size 16 slim (link)
Juniors clothes are designed to fit curves better than girls clothes. I know that when I was 11, I switched to shopping in the juniors department, and it changed what I could wear.

I'm no where near tiny, so the problem of finding jeans to fit a big butt has always been a problem for me- I find that when I find a pair to fit in the hips, the waist is way too big and there's a gap in the back. The best solution I've found for this is to wear stretch jeans. They have the flexibility to fit your curves better than regular jeans.

For brands, I like Unionbay shorts and Levi jeans. I also like Old Navy.

Also, wearing a belt helps cinch the waist of too-big pants or shorts.

Another thing I look for is shorts or capri's with a drawstring. Then you can get them to fit your hips, but it won't look too big in the waist.

every1- i have a huggeeeee prob with my school dress code. for gradutiation and confirmation were expected to dress up. as for the dress, it has to cover shoulders! ive looked EVERYWHERE for a semi-formal dress with some kind of sleeves...plz tell me where to find one! 14/8th grade/f (link)
If you can't find a dress with sleeves, another option would be to wear a sweater with a sleeveless dress.

Try a light cotton sweater with 3/4 length sleeves in white or some pastel color that matches your dress.

I want to make my hair look sort of touseled, sexy, curly. People tell me to use gel to scrunch it but it just makes it look chunky and wet...anything else I can do to make it look dry yet touseled? (link)
It only works to just scrunch with gel if your hair has at least some wave to it. If your hair is completely straight, then you'll have to resort to curlers, curling iron, etc. to get curly hair.

Also, I like mousse better than gel for getting curls.

i need some help on what eye shadows and liners to wear. i have brown eyes and i want to be able to bring them out. any suggestions? thanx 4 ne help in advance. (link)
Plums and pinks work well for brown eyes.

Almay has that new eyeshadow combinations for different eye colors- you could try that. (I'm not sure what they use for brown eyes)

Make sure that whatever colors you use also work good for your skin tone (for example, don't use black liner if your skin is more pale, and dont' use white/silver shadow if you're darker)

I got a prom dress for my Senior Promt his year last year when they were on sale. My mom made me get it a size bigger tha I am thinking I would grow into it over the year but I haven't. So I was wondering how much do you think it would cost to get it taken in about a half a inch. thanx for any help (link)
Is there someone you or your mom know that can sew and would be willing to do the alteration for you? Yes, going to a professional is an idea, but it would be a lot cheaper to do it yourself, as long as it's not too complicated of an alteration.

My mom had to alter my prom dress last year, too. It was about an inch or so too big in the boobes. She does sew, so she just took it in with her sewing machine.

If your mom doesn't sew, maybe there's a relative (aunt or grandma), someone at church, or a neighbor that does who'd be willing to do it for you.

If it's just hemming the bottom, that's pretty easy, unless it's one of those super poofy skirts, or it has a lot of layers. Taking in the bust or waist is a little more complicated. Another option if it's spaghetti-straps is to shorten the straps to make it fit better on top.

Hey...
I was wondering how to get summer-ready when you know that you'll be around guys! I mean everything from the perfect bikini that's sexy but not slutty, the perfect exercises to make me tight and toned, and how to get invited to the best parties...most of my friends are having beach/pool/waterpark parties and I often see *really* hot friends fro school at the local pool, and I want summer love (lack thereof) or a fling or something that can boost my reputation and gain me some friends...aka get me into the popular circle...since I'm friends with like half of the popular people! Anyway, also, if it helps, I'm just under 5 feet am 13 and have an 'A' cup...and I'm thin except for my inner thighs and my abs...I'll rate high...

Amy (link)
Bikini... try a tankini- they cover more, and are flatttering. Especially at your age- there's plenty of time to wear a teeny-weeny bikini when you grow curves. (not to sound condescending, but you did say you don't want to be slutty)

Exercises... sit-ups and exercises for your abs are your best bet. But you need to combine that with cardio. Try running, dancing to music in your room, a sport, pilates, kickboxing, or something else that interests you. For abs- turn on your favorite high energy song and just do sit-ups for the song.

And if your friends are having parties... go to those. Going to parties that you don't know people at doesn't sound like fun. And if these people are your friends, then they'll probably invite you to their parties.

omg my hair is sooo frizzy and i dont know what to do about it! i've tried many products but nothing seems to work!

please help! (link)
Use a extra-moisturizing conditioner designed for dry hair or one designed for curly hair, like Pantene. I like Pantene smooth and sleek (or the Suave look-a-like- it's cheaper and works just as good). Try only washing your hair every other day.

Do you live in a humid climate? I know my hair is always more frizzy when it's humid. On humid days, I just say "screw it" and wear a pony tail or a hat. Then on good days I make the attempt to have good hair. (sometimes it works, other days it doesn't)

im not sure what catagory to ut this in but here we go, ok im usually always wearin a jacket because i sweat sometimes and i dont know why and i dont want people to see them especially boys armpit stains arent attractive and i have tryed a lot of deoderants like dove, teen spirit, a lot of em can anyone give me any advice on this horror thanks so much (link)
The best girl's deoderant I've found is Secret Platinum Protection.

However, most guy's deoderants are stronger than the ones made for girls. (which is messed up, since we sweat too!) So trying a deoderant that's meant for guys is a good idea.

If it's really bad, talk to your doctor- there are percription anti-perspirants out there for super sweaty people.

Also- try dressing in layers. tank top, t-shirt, and lightweight cardigan can help mask the sweat and keep the wetness from showing so much. Or wear looser t-shirts and tops instead of tight ones- if the fabric isn't touching the wet armpit, it won't show.
