Ugh...okay I HATE my clothes. I went through this whole phase recently of "I care what everyone else thinks and my opinion doesnt matter". And that includes clothes. I wear the same old crappy polo tees from hollister and stupid jeans and stupid shoes. I just look like every other boring un-unique "prep". Well, i've finally grown out of this. I now want to start dressing like my personality which is edgy, unique, and artsy. I like rock/emo/indie music if it helps? I'm looking for some fashion tips (example...stuff like wearing your belt to the side, etc.) And some stores online I could check out to help me dress more "edgy". Also, i dont have alot of money. How can i rock out a plain polo? Any hair ideas? Makeup ideas? I hate dressing "preppy" when inside im not like that. THANKS!
get maybe a pair of skinny jeans from Hollister. it dosent matter where clothes are from, it matters thestyle and Hollister has very cute skinny jeans.
get some black vintage eye-liner and wear that
go shopping on Melrose and just get clothes that are YOUR style!
im so glad that your over your thing about dressing like everybody else, but asking us for advice is basically doing the same thing.
only YOU can find YOUR own, perfect style.
xo
maybe cut your own sidebangs?
and chop up the edges with a razor
chloewizard answered Sunday May 22 2005, 5:24 pm: Right!
lots and lots of hats espesially those big, bouncy, buffy ones from New Look. Mosaic, different patterned/ floral half cut sleeve shirts with trousers that have tassels and fabric attached or light denim mini skirts. As for hair I'd go for multi coloured highlights, layered or feathered. Make-up: Dark browny bronze eye shadow and dark lushious red lipstick.

BeautifulXDismay answered Friday May 13 2005, 2:01 pm: As far as dressing it doesnt really rely on what music you listen to. I do dress 'gothic' as I have been told. I don't like to label myself as that, but oh well.
Do what I do make clothes. Go to the salvation army and get some 2 dollar skirts and add lace or fishnet to it. Its cheap and looks sweet. Cool thing is its VERY unique. No one can have what you make. Unless they copy off you.
Make up. Hmm I am into alot of black eyeliner and bright pink eyeshadow. DON'T do black lines down your face. You will look like a fool and get dirty looks.
l0stiNth0uGht020 answered Thursday May 12 2005, 5:15 pm: Well... my advice would be to dress what YOU like. Don't ask other people how you should dress, or what's "emo" clothes, or what's "cool" in the "rock" scene.. Dress in clothes that YOU think are cute. You could shop at thrift stores for unique stuff, and you could dress up your polos by writing on them, or sewing things on them, or just altering them. Play around and figure out what you think is cool. Don't let the rest of the world judge you or influence you - do what YOU want, wear what YOU want. It doesn't matter if it's cool or if other people think it's edgy. If you're unique, you'll find a way on your own to show that through your style. Hope I helped! ophelia answered Thursday May 12 2005, 9:47 am: I agree with the others about Urban Outfitters. If there isn't one nearby, try their website www.urbn.com. They have great sales/clearence. Also, Target has some really cute clothes that are inexpensive. Thrift stores are great too. You can find some really unique stuff that is very inexpensive.
I don't think it's so much WHAT you wear, but HOW you wear it. Try layering clothing. Wear darker nailpolish. Try different jewelry.
DistilledAnachronism answered Wednesday May 11 2005, 8:49 pm: If you don't like the way you dress, change it by thinking of what YOU like. Don't even bother about what looks 'punk' or 'edgy' or whatever. It's overrated. If you see something you like, get it. If it's too expensive, save up, make your own, or try a store like Ross, where you can find great clothes at incredibly cheap prices. It's all about what you think looks good on you personally, and what you find appealing in clothing. [ DistilledAnachronism's advice column | Ask DistilledAnachronism A Question ]
Erinn_the_bamf answered Wednesday May 11 2005, 6:09 pm: Start small. Some things that are unquie (haha I can't spell) ideas are taking a long skirt and baking random cuts in it. Cut up your polo shirts into whatever you think looks color. Bright colors are the best. Some great stores to help you are Pacsun (www.pacsun.com) and gojane.com. There are perfect for what you are looking for (I am focusing on the owrd indie here). If you want use Hot Topic but spareingly. That store is kinda too punkish sometimes. More fasion tips are wearing torn up capris with long socks. It looks so awesome. For make-up use dark nutrals for eyeshadow. Liquid eyeliner is always good. Plently of mascara. Nude lips and whatever blush you want. However, always use some vasline to take makeup off. For hair ideas try scrunching it. THat is putting gell in your hands and taking parts of your hair and squeezing it. Also try straighting it and use cute little clips to tie it back. For jewlery no matter what style you have dimands are a girls best friend. For shoes wear vans or etines and draw a little on them. Or a cool idea a friend of mine had was to get people to sign her shoes. I hope I helped! If you have more questions on going towards an indie style ask me because I love indie. I hope I helped! ♥ good luck [ Erinn_the_bamf's advice column | Ask Erinn_the_bamf A Question ]
clearlypink428 answered Tuesday May 10 2005, 9:59 pm: might sound a bit avril, but i love how ties look as belts. i think it's VERY edgy, and definetely unique. as for rocking out polos, brooches are in, simply bunch up a corner of the shirt near the waist, and pin it with a brooch. they come in so many styles and colors, and are fairly cheap.also, considering the polos, you can decide if cutting them up is an option for you, but cut off the collar of one, and then cut the neckline at an angle, so it drapes off one shoulder. pair it with a cute and bold looking tank.(walmart!)ive taken old jeans that it a LITTLE snug, and cut the seams in the crotch, and folded it over, sewed it,and washed it. the product is beautiful and defintely edgy, the more you wash it so it frays. try it on a pair of jeans that dont fit you at all, just for practice, to see how well it turns out. depending on your hair length, a good style can be created by wetting your hair, towel drying it just a tad. then, cover your hands in gel, and scrunch your hair all over. its pretty hard to explain, but make a fist with sections of hair in your hand. do this all over till your hair starts to look wavy. then use mousse and continue to do the same. blow dry it, not completely dry- but just enough to set the waves. then hairspray(the more the better) all over, and scrunch some more. this style is great for just about anywhere. another simple style can be made by buying a waver.they sell them for real cheap at value city, dollar general, and walmart)it looks like a straightener, but has waved plates. (NOT a crimper- looks too 80's)and wave tiny sections of hair over straightened hair. just a few pieces here and there- too much volume can be made by thuis style if you wave too much hair, and youll look like a clown.as for makeup, liquid eyeliner is just about the edgiest thing in the makeup world. paired with lots of black mascara, you really cannot go wrong. really hope i helped you. good luck with your new looks. rainbowsend answered Tuesday May 10 2005, 9:26 pm: How can you rock out in a plain polo? With attitude. It's really not about what you wear, but how you wear it.
Wear your polo over a long sleeved thermal, preferably in bright mis-matched colors. Add pins, a fun scarf, or whatever other accessories you like. Cut the toes of a pair of striped socks, and wear them as arm warmers. Wear your kid brother's pokemon t-shirt over your polo with the collar sticking out.
Crimp your hair instead of straightening or scrunching it. Buy cheap plastic little kid barrettes to pull back the sides. Braid it, wear low pigtails.
Thrift shop. As someone else said, Salvation Army. Also try Goodwill, or Ragstock if you've got one nearby. Also raid closets- if the family member it belongs to doesn't want it anymore, make it work for you.
Skirts are fun. Making a long, flowy skirt is fairly easy, if you've got a few yards of plain fabric and a little sewing knowledge (or you know someone who does)
Really, just start small. Show your personality through the little things like color matching and accessories. Gradually add more edgy pieces of clothing to your wardrobe. If you make it a sudden change, you're more likely to come accross as just wearing a new costume of a different stereotype. You're much better off experimenting gradually to find your own style. azngemini answered Tuesday May 10 2005, 9:03 pm: if you wanna dress "edgy", then yellow rat bastard is definately the store for you. it's so awesome, and the clothes are really great for your style.
hot topic is another store that sells edgy/punkish clothes and hot accesories, so you can check that out.
also spencer's gifts is a good place. it doesnt sell a lot of clothes, mainly large t shirts with funny and maybe perverted pics/words on the front, but that store is really cool and it's kinda like hot topic, but more funny.
kleokriesel answered Tuesday May 10 2005, 8:59 pm: Go hunt around Salvation Army, antique and thrift stores. See if your mom, aunts, and older cousins have held onto any of their old clothes and look through them. Learn to sew.
unkn0wndj answered Tuesday May 10 2005, 8:55 pm: Check out Pacsun and Hot topic. I mean they can be expensive ( yeah i guess my budget is kinda high ) but usually you can check out Kohl's and some department stores and they should have what your looking for! :)
sammysamtoohott answered Tuesday May 10 2005, 8:50 pm: well look at stores like urban outfitters and aeropostale not preppy but still have a cool edgy look also long shirts are in style with jeans and a big belt also hair putting some hair back with a clip is cool
