Q: my heart has been doing weird stuff so i was looking what can be wrong with the heart and it said "coronary artery disease" but i don't know what that means. can some one please explain so a 16 year old can understand?
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Unless you have serious nutritional issues, really unhealthy, are overweight, or have diabetes, at 16 you should not be worrying about a CAD!
Coronary artery disease is like when your bottle of glue or ketchup is almost running out, and you are squeezing the bottle yet there is stick crap sticking on the sides. Pretend your blood vessels are the bottle and the blood full of crap is what is sticking to the sides. The crap can build up, blocking the flow of blood and might eventually block the blood flow to the heart. This causes hypertension problems, possibly a stroke, all in all coronary artery disease.
It is normal to have heart flutters now and then. However if you are really concerned please see a doctor to have it checked, maybe you have a heart condition that has never been diagnosed? Or first try to keep a record of the time of day, activity you are doing, what you recently ate, etc when the weird heart thing happens. Maybe you ate a lot of sugar, or was really stressed out when the thing occurred.

Q: i have a really bad sweating problem,& i wear deodorant all the time, what can i do too prevent it from happening ?

Out of like every 10 people, there's always someone who sweats more than others. Like a lot. Its normal. I'm one of them. By the first hour of work, I'll be starting to sweat while no one else doesn't break it until after lunch time!
If you are talking about all-around sweating, make sure that you are eating healthy foods and drinking lots of water. If you already are, guess that means you are one of the tens!
For feet, I've watched Dr. Oz and soaking up your feet in vodka helps with the sweat pores and the odour.
As for your underarms, I think this video will help:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_iee2lbKYU
antiperspirant will help but it depends. If you are talking about sweating when working out, that is natural. As long as it doesn't smell bad, that is all that matters. And if you are up for it in the future, there is a surgery that can remove the sweat gland in your armpit.
Best of luck! I don't know how old you are but it will get better! I do not sweat as much as I used to (underarm-wise).

Q: I've been having a lot of depression lately and have been starting to wear all black. I want to tell someone but I don't know how.
So here are my questions:
1.) How do I tell someone?
2.) How do I get rid of my depression?
3.) Who do I tell
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
You only tell someone if you want to.
There is help! I went to the health clinic that specialized in this. Then there was an hour in the hospital that took care of this (Mental Health - I know everyone hates that word being associated with this. I sure did. I was depressed, not crazy). From there I got what was called crisis counselling.
I didn't think that I could tell a "counsellor" how I felt. I mean, I couldn't even tell anyone for 15 years! But she knew this and there were just different questions that helped you to just talk and start off somewhere.
Eventually everything was let out, I got referred to a psychiatrist for the last important bits that were non-related to counselling. And in a year I was fine again.
I never thought that I could feel better from my depression but I did. Simply because one day I was at the last of my limits and decided to reach out before using suicide as a last resort.
I did not tell anyone about it other than my best friend and became the biggest liar ever; lying to my parents about where I was going because I didn't want them to know that I was going to see my psychiatrist. They are old fashioned and will never understand that this really is a common thing for our times and they are not for "crazy people".
Please seek help and don't worry of contacting me if you need more information. My only regret is that I took so long to get help. I missed so many years of my life.

Q: i've been using certain dri for like a month already and i've been putting it on every night.
but it's not really working. you can still see my sweat stains the next day...is there something i'm doing wrong?
i apply it at night but it says that i should only do a few strokes..like how many strokes is that?
and it's really really ichy so i scratch my underarms does that affect it in any way?
please help
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
There's nothing wrong. It just doesn't work and you need to talk to your doctor about using something else.
Few strokes is prob 3 but hey how much you need on is your choice, unless it's like dripping off your arm or something, then that's way too much.
Try NOT to scratch your underarms. I understand that it must be really itchy because it's closing your pores in your armpits.
I don't think this could effect it unless you scratched it while it's still wet and didn't dry yet.
Good luck!

Q: okay so i'm getting ceramic braces in like 3 weeks..and my mom was telling me theres a chance i will have to wear the headgear/neckgear thing...will i?? i know some people get to choose if they want to wear it at day or night..
but will i have to wear it in the day like during school?
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
I don't think I ever heard of head gear during the day, that's just stupid.
Head gear are for people with an over bite, if it's even a line over a certain number say, 5cm, then you have to wear one.
I had to wear it once. ONLY for at home and while you're sleeping.
If you wore it during school that would be so bad and if you play sports with it on you'd have one painful face right now.
If you got anymore questions feel free to ask =] Hope this helped!

Q: i was recently on the plane, im not sure if that is anything to do with it. but my right ear seems clogged. i cant pop it or anything, it kinda hurts too. Is it like an ear rupture or ear infection or something? what should i do? It hurts, and i went swimming today but i didnt go under because of my ear. but i was in hollywood i was swimming for like 10 days. but my ear didnt start to hurt untill the other day.. when i got back kinda. And i can hear out of it, but not as clear as my left. and i can like hear myself breath. sorry if this is confusing. i just really need help.

Ahh I get them all the time! It's very normal actually. There's some solutions:
Have you been cleaning your ear?
If it hurts then you need to go to the doctors and get you some antibioctics (I hope that's spelled right but it's pronounced as ANTI-BYE-AW-DICTS). It's just some yummy medicine that you take and it'll just go right away.
If you can't hear and you cleaned out your ear, there could be some 'things' clogged insde your ear and you just go to the doctors and ask them if they can use THE SINGE or THE EAR SINGE on you. (unless they do something else)
Don't worry, it's like like a water gun, it looks like a needle but they just fill it up with water and they just sqirt into your ear (minus the needle part) like a water gun.
DON'T just get a water gun and start squirting into your ear!
Doctors look into your ear with a thing and shoot it at specific angles to remove..the 'thing'..
After that, you'll feel much better. And don't worry, doctors are your friends =]
Hope this helped.

Q: I am from Japan. I know english...Kinda.
I never had period before I am just wondering how you know when period comes. Like. I heard you start to get cramps before period, or Brown discharge... It would be grateful for some answers. :) Ty.

Konichiwa! Well for me, a big sign for me is that I get a lot of pimples and acne, but that doesn't happen to everyone.
You don't get brown discharge...you get a discharge but it shouldn't be brown. If it is brown and it has a horrible smell (well worst then how it usually is) then that's a yeast infection and that's a bad thing.
You do get cramps before period, and it hurts even more DURING it.
There's also a pattern in every month for your period, like a similarity in the dates so you will know when is your next period but it takes a long time before that starts to happen and continue regularly.
You can get very irritated and change moods from sad, to mad, or happy and then suddenly sad. Called mood swings.
You have cravings for certain types of food. For me it's sweets like candy.
I think that's it. If you don't understand, I'll include a translation but my translator isn't perfect:

Q: After I eat meals, I go straight to the bathroom within 10-20 minutes. I literally "empty my tank" after meals, and I don't know why. My mom says it's okay because it cleans me out. I'm trying to lose weight, and I am, but is this normal? I go so quickly after I eat meals, and I really GO, if you catch my drift haha. But could this become a problem? I don't want to have diarreah (sp) or anything like that, and I don't want there to be big problems at school after lunch. Is this normal?

Yes it's normal. I think it's because you're eating really healthy with all the fiber and that's why you have to go right after you finish eating.

Q: im getting braces on tomorrow and im really scared about it... i hate the orthodontist a lot and hate things in my mouth... i gag really easily and am scared im gonna feel sick while hes putting the braces on. do you have any tips or anything so i can make this as easy as possible? how long will everything take to put on and will it hurt??
please answer everything and give me anything else i should know
|
|

|
|

|
|
Wow I gotta agree with hating the things in your mouth, especially if you're going to have it on for a year.
Hmm...Well I'm pretty sure you won't be able to gag since he or she puts the parts one at a time.
When I was about to receive my head gear (something before I have to have my braces on), they asked me questions like "Do you breathe out of your nose? Is there any problems that might make this difficult?"
You just have to mention that to them that you gag really easily and you really mean it when you come get your braces done. Even write it on your hand if you have to before they do it to remind you and tell them to take it easy. It's their job and your mouth so they better do the heck of a good job and not start other problems!
I gotta say that a HUGE tip for anything that has to do with your teeth whether it's the orthodontist or dentist for me is to OPEN YOUR MOUTH AS WIDE AS YOU CAN! Lmao I'm serious, go to your mirror, stick your hands in your mouth and start trying now (and then wash your hands!)!
You have to try to open your mouth as large as you can. If you have a huge mouth, even better!
Dentist always tell you to open your mouth bigger so they can see your teeth when they check upon a certain one. My orthodontist didn't have a little lamp thing for each person like in the dentist so you have to keep that in mind.
You need to open your mouth as wide as you can, painful or not. As you know, braces go like everywhere in your mouth so you gotta open wide so they can see everything easily to be able to put braces in your back teeth too. You wouldn't want him to call another nurse or something to hold your mouth open and make you gag would you?
Make sure to brush your teeth nice and clean before you go to make it easier for them, if you don't already.
Well I'm not sure how long it took…depends how co-operative you are. Mine took about half an hour I think cuz the opening of your mouth really works!
But I can tell you the things they did from what I can remember..?
Ok well first thing they have to clean your teeth with the whole brushing and stuff before they put it on. If you brushed and flossed your teeth before you came, GREAT! Makes it easier for them, faster for you!
I don't remember if they did but I think they sticked these stuff in your mouth to make sure your mouth is wide open and it HURTS LIKE HELL! Made your mouth bigger when done they were done…
Um...if you didn't already have stuff around your too last teeth on both top and bottom teeth, then they'll put something around it and put this glue on it that tastes disgusting and you'll have to wait a long time and then they'll make you rinse your mouth in the bathroom. YUCK! But I think you have it on already before you get ready for your braces.
Then, the really smelly part! I hope that you've been around a skunk before and was fine with it because after cleaning, they put like the glue or some smelly thing in each teeth to stick the braces on your teeth. SMELLS LIKE SHIT! I think it’s ok then to breathe out of your mouth, if you can.
To me, other then the cleaning, that's the longest thing about putting braces on. They leave you alone for God knows how long for the glue thing to dry or cool off on your teeth. So you get like 15 minutes with a skunk -.-
Then, they just stick the brackets on your teeth, which are those square things. Doesn't hurt at all!
Still opening your mouth as wide as you can? =)
Then, you wait more so the bracket and glue go stick together to stay on your teeth...
Then here come a pretty painful or annoying part, depending on how gay your teeth are. You know when you make your hands like a C and move them up and down as if they're talking? That's kinda how they open up the brackets to hold the wire in.
It’s just a little stick, poke it in the hole of the square, move it up, and it should pry open. And they just keep doing that for every tooth.
My two smallest teeth and sensitive teeth were the ones that looked like a dog tooth on both sides on my teeth at the top. It was being stubborn and wont' open so the lady had to stick it in as hard as she could and push with all her might to open it and it finally came open and my two teeth was sore as hell.
Then they just stick the wires in, close the brackets (which doesn't hurt at all as it might opening them), and you're done!
Tip #3! Ask for A LOT OF WAX! I don't know the damn why they give you one freakin pack of wax. I think you need about 5 or 10!
It doesn't really hurt but an hour later you'll start to feel the pain of the braces coming and pulling your teeth slowly together.
You'll might need to eat soup for the rest of the week until your teeth isn't sore and can take it. I don't know if you have super sensitive teeth like mine but if you do, I had soup for every meal for 3 or 4 weeks.
If you do, PLEASE! Experiment with your soup to make it healthy! I hate it when people eat instant noodles or any kind of noodles constantly for a long time and don’t' try to make it healthy for themselves! Once in a while is ok but if you're eating it for a while like me, add some healthy stuff in it or something!
It doesn't have to be soup; just something really simple to eat that doesn't take a lot of chewing, maybe oatmeal or something.
Don't make it hard for yourself! I made smoothies for myself all week! ^-^
And as for my fruit of the day, which I couldn't eat because of my sore teeth, I just stick it in the blender and made like apple slush! YUM!
MAKE THINGS HEALTHY FOR YOUSELF! You definitely need the vitamins during these days the most. If you don't you'll get your body into even more trouble, and I doubt the pain to go with it will make it better.
Make sure to have some Tylenol with you for pain. And have your wax ready if you have cuts or anything; stick it on the tooth that's cutting it. If it works for you, maybe like 3 teeth near it just in case!
I'm pretty sure you'll be fine.
OH! By the way! Practice your smile in the mirror when you come home?! I couldn't really feel my mouth when it was done and didn't know how my smile was supposed to be so my mouth went crazy and it wasn't a normal looking smile.
Make sure to definitely brush your teeth after anything you eat! You'll definitely regret it later if you don't and it'll sure as hell avoid getting cuts often. I brush my teeth 6 times a day now or sometimes more.
Ha...that's it. Hopefully I didn't bore you to death reading this =] Hope you rate and good luck with your braces! My inbox is ready for you if you need any other help that I'll try to answer.

Oh my god..I had the exact same thing! But i had it on my arm..
I put this cream called Prednicarbate emollient Cream 0.1% but you could put your acne medication on it.
But keep it clean..make sure to wash that spot well when you wash your face.
And yes, it is a scab so don't scratch it or anything or it'll slow the healing process or turn it into a scar!

Q: So I've had my period for over five years and I've never had PMS before. Last month, like a week before I got like really severe mood swings. After like two and a half weeks, they went away. Now they're back again. I went to the doctor last month and she didn't know what was wrong. The mood swings are the only thing I get and it's making my life and relationships really difficult. Any ideas as to what's going on?

Don't worry it's perfectly normal. Different girls get different things happen. My friend never even got her PMS yet LOL.
Although it's hard to keep down your mood swings just try to take different relaxing excercises like yoga, excercising (maybe punching that thing people use for boxing), and drink a lot of cold water.

=D I'm SO GLAD someone posted this question for me to answer this!^-^
Yes it makes them go away and really helps you when you burn your hand too to put it on your burns.
I find the acne medicine my doctor gives me just isn't good because somehow it kinda makes it works, makes my nose shiney, and more oily sometimes so now toothpaste is my acne medicine =)
It works because toothpaste was made to help teeth and gum from redness, pain, etc and since you put it on your pimples, zits, or burns, that's exactly what it does to it. =)
Oh and if your family shares a tube of toothpaste, make sure that everytime you dip your fingers in there, make sure you use a different finger each time and the fingers are clean or else..I wouldn't want someone dipping their fingers into something I put into my mouth

I wouldn't go for Pro-Activ like that person said below. Everyone has different skin. My cousin uses it and it works for him but someone I know that used it said it burned her face.

I've heard that you can be pregnant if you have your period, but is that really true? If so, how will you know for sure if you are pregnant? If you have your period and you take a test, would it cancel out the hormones that the test detects because I have my period?Any help at all would be extremely helpful.

I don't think so, but it's rare to because having your period means that your system is draining(why people have periods..).

I don't think they're safe because they might do something to your liver. There's this tea from Japan though that burns your fat but you're gonna get one huge stomache ache! PLUS! If many people can workout or eat healthy to loose fat, so can you -.- don't cheat! Maybe you just need to ask the doctor about like a regime.

That's normal because it's part of puberty. By health suggestions, you should wash that area regularly with soap when you're in the shower. I don't know what the advisers mean by spray but if it's a perfume or something, NOT a good idea!

Well it IS your stomache emptying..I take this pill suscribed by my doctor and the pain goes right away! Eating banana helps and drinking a lot of water =)

Q: I have dandruff. I tried using head and shoulders shampoo but it didn't really work. Any tips? I don't like how it shows up on my clothes and stuff. I take a shower every day.

It's probably because dead skin on your head is shedding but it's normal because it can happen frequently around the folds of your nose and the eyebrow areas (may redden there but not on the scalp). If your scalp didn't shed dead skin, you'd have a thick scalp by now. You can try using the shampoos and things other people have listed below but everyone's scalp is different so don't be disapointed if the product doesn't work.
Make sure to get enough fatty acids because they help the itching and eat a diet consisting of 50 to 75% raw foods.
You could make a home remedy of 8 teaspoons of organic peanut oil to the juice of half a lemon in your hair to 5-10 mins before you shampoo. You can also try washin your hair with vinegar and water instead of plain water. Use 1/4 of vinegar to 1 quart of water.
Tell me if I helped!

After a two year hiatus I am back! I've been on this site since 2006 and things have changed far more greatly since my bright days in my younger years. I've battled with anxiety and depression and I've gotten through it. My life is merely a survival story itself and now I simply want to help others, being grateful for everything I have and simply because I CAN.
Hello you can call me Hitomi^-^
Being a nurse is my passion so feel free to ask me anything and I will try my best
I'll answer every question personally given to me, if you're serious about it.
I am of faith but will not preach in my answers unless the person who is asking for advice is very obvious of being of faith.
Sometimes it is not about getting through the obstacle, but to stay positive within it. Sometimes you are placed somewhere dark so that you can shine to others even brighter!
