Dandruff

Question Posted Thursday November 30 2006, 7:07 pm

I have dandruff. I tried using head and shoulders shampoo but it didn't really work. Any tips? I don't like how it shows up on my clothes and stuff. I take a shower every day.

Okay, confession time, I struggled with dandruff for a long time myself, and I know what you mean...it SUCKS!!! Head and shoulders never did anything for me either, nor did selson blue or whatever its called. I know how you feel, and while each persons scalp is different, here is what works for me so Im dandruff FREE!! I use the coal tar formula, usually by neutogena, although I find that the wallmart brand or knock off versions work just as well and are cheaper. It stops it in one or two weeks for me, although I can see the difference in about 3-4 days. Downsides though...it STINKS! I smell like my grandpa and that sucks..so ontop of using that, I like to wash my hair after with a strong smelling shampoo (herbal essences for me) and then a conditioner. Another good thing about the knock off brands is that they tend to smell less then Tgel. And I know that it sound gross, but girls..unless you running a marathon every morning, you relly actually SHOULDNT take a shower everyday. Everytime you do you strip your hair and your scalp of natural oils that keep your hair healthy, soft (and your scalp not so dried out and therefor...FLAKE FREE!!!) Do it everyother day, or use a shower cao and just wash your body everyday. I get complimented on my hair all the time, so I think Im doing a decent job with it! lol..well I hope that I helped, let me know how I did..and hun, let me know how it goes? Good Luck!! -sorry this is so long-

It's probably because dead skin on your head is shedding but it's normal because it can happen frequently around the folds of your nose and the eyebrow areas (may redden there but not on the scalp). If your scalp didn't shed dead skin, you'd have a thick scalp by now. You can try using the shampoos and things other people have listed below but everyone's scalp is different so don't be disapointed if the product doesn't work.
Make sure to get enough fatty acids because they help the itching and eat a diet consisting of 50 to 75% raw foods.
You could make a home remedy of 8 teaspoons of organic peanut oil to the juice of half a lemon in your hair to 5-10 mins before you shampoo. You can also try washin your hair with vinegar and water instead of plain water. Use 1/4 of vinegar to 1 quart of water.
Tell me if I helped!

Try Denorex or Neutrogena dandruff control. they both have a tar like chemical in it, smell horrible, but it definitely works wonders on hair with dandruff!

Take a shower everyday but don't wash your hair everyday. It dries out your scalp and will make it worse!

Here is a good article on dandruff for you to read.
I have heard that Tegrin or selson blue work very well.
