Hello! I have some scrap gold from an estate that I need to sell, but I don't know how to go about it without being cheated. I took it to two pawn shops and they gave me wildly different prices! Does anyone have experience with something like this? Thank you! (link)
|
Hello,
You have four sensible options:
1. Go to as many pawn shops as possible and work out what the average price is. Obviously then, go to the highest bidder.
2. If you want to be sure to get the best offer, there is an equation you can use to work out the value of your gold. But this really depends on you knowing what carat (how pure) the gold is. Here is a website that outlines it: http://www.wikihow.com/Calculate-the-Value-of-Scrap-Gold
Keep in mind with this approach that you have to leave space for the person who is buying it to make a profit. So get as close as possible to its worth when selling it.
3. Sell it directly to a refinery. They melt the gold down, removing the impurities. This cuts the middle man. But you will have to check if there is one close by.
4. If you are keen to get rid of it and need the money, sell it to the various companies that will now buy gold, you can search the internet for these companies, there are PLENTY. They often give you a low a price as possible because they are looking to make a profit, understandably. But I get from your answer that this isn't the approach you want.
I think the best option would be to calculate the golds worth, and go to as many pawn shops as possible to try and get as close as possible to that.
Good luck!

Is property business down in London/ UK and can I know the reason's behind it? I've a few plans in the future so I just want to know the current situation before getting into it.
(link)
|
London is one of the places that is immune from the property bubble bursting. When I say immune, I don't mean totally.
Like most of the world, when the financial crises hit, house prices went down. The UK is not as bad as say, Ireland or Portugal. But London is the best for property prices. When I say best, I mean it has the highest prices, and they're constantly rising.
Just this year, London prices increased by over 6%. In Northern Ireland however, they dropped by more than 12%.
The reason for property being so expensive in London, is because of various reasons:
1. It's the capital of the United Kingdom
2. It's the financial hub of the world. Loads of people work and live here.
3. Most importantly, there is a shortage of housing. Supply and demand is the reason for this. There is a high demand for housing here, and so prices are high. If more houses are created, then property values fall because the consumer has a choice.
So yes, there it is. Hope I helped :)

How do you set up a pre-paid funeral? I don't want my family to have to deal with this when I pass away. Who do I talk to to do this? I am afraid that if I did it with the local funeral home and then I passwed away on a trip it wouldn't count and they would still have to pay for my burial. How does this work? (link)
|
Hello,
I've never heard of pre-paid funerals, but there are some more conventional steps you could take:
1. You could open a bank account, and put some money aside in there to help with the funeral. In your will, you can state that this is what you would like the money to be used for.
2. You could take a life insurance policy out. Google some insurers, and ask around. Be sure you're getting a good deal though. There is no point paying in $50 a month if you are very young at the moment, because the payout will probably be much less. This is how they make their money. Be sure to also check the terms and conditions. Many insurers don't pay out if the deceased has committed suicide (which I hope you are not planning on doing, because it is never the answer).
But googling "pre-paid funerals" has seemed to bring up a few results. I'm from the UK, and so if you're from another country, I'm not sure how much what I've found will be useful to you. You could always ring the funeral homes up and ask if you could pop round for a quick chat. Then discuss any issues or questions you have.
Good luck!

I desperately need $500 by September 8. I have applied for multiple loans at Banks and Credit Unions and I don't qualify for them.
I can't afford the quick loan places cuz their interest is too high and Ive heard horror stories about how they rip you off.
I have already sold and pawned everything I can :'( That was really hard but I am desperate.
I don't have a car to sell.
What should I do?
I do have awesome credit and could probably qualify for a credit card. But I know nothing about them. What's the best and safest credit card? Where do I go to get one? Are their specific qualifications? And is there a way to get a safe one without going to a bank or credit union? What do you all think of Visa Credit Cards?
Is there something better that I can do to get the money fast?
The two things I refuse to do are: Sell sex and Apply for welfare or any other kind poor people program. (Nothing against those who do it).
PLEASE H5LP!!! (link)
|
If you have good credit, then a credit card may be a sensible idea.
But if you don't qualify for a loan, then you may struggle with a credit card. But it is worth trying.
It depends on where you live. Not only country, but state. I suggest you approach your bank, and ask if they do credit cards. But also research online. Check banks, visa, mastercard, etc, etc, etc. Just google "credit cards" and you'll get tonnes of info.
You want to make sure that whatever card you have, it's the lowest possible interest. So call around to various companies, and ask them what interest rate you will be charged.
The interest is of course, the amount they charge you for your outstanding amount. They charge you this usually every month on whatever is left. You then have to pay a MINIMUM amount every month. Of course, it is in their interest that you don't pay it all back at once, because that is how they make their money.
But before you do, ensure you can afford a credit card. Will you be able to make the payments?
And what do you need the money for? Can you ask them if you can pay it slowly, or can they give you extra time? Try to reason with them.
In short, search around. Loads of companies will offer you a credit card. But the key is to find the lowest interest. So start searching now, so you have enough time for the application, and for checking each ones fine print and details. Also be sure you can afford it, and try to reason with who you want to pay.
Good luck!

I want to buy somehing but I don't want to get scammed and buy something of poor quality and not get my money back. I'm afraid maybe if I pay I won't get it or it won't be as good as it looked on the internet. What are the chances of gettin scammed on ebay or craigslist?
(link)
|
I wouldn't use craigslist, especially for something expensive.
I use ebay, because it is much easier and safer. You can see a sellers feedback, to see how good they are. You can also get your money back easily if you do get scammed (if you pay by paypal).
So it really depends. You need to use your judgement. Obviously if someone is offering a grand piano for $1, it's a scam.
Keep in mind that products from China/Hong Kong generally will be a lower quality, but cheap. My friend ordered a bag from Hong Kong. It was only $4. She got it a month later, and you could tell it was cheaply made. But $4, what does one expect?
I'm sure there are plenty of quality sellers from other countries, but from experience, home sellers have best quality.
Good luck!

I was wondering I have unpaid medical bills I heard if they aren't paid anything medical cant hurt your credit or ruin your credit score when you go for a loan? Is this true? (link)
|
The medical company does not have to tell credit agencies if they do not want to: it's voluntary.
If they do, it will effect your score, but it will be negligible. So it won't make too much of a difference. They care more about people that get a credit card and go on a spending spree, and never pay back.
But, you should note, that if the medical company decides to enforce the medical bill with the use of a collection agency, that may also show up on your credit report.
In short: it can make a difference, but is negligible. You should contact a couple ratings agencies to double check.
Good luck :)

What is the best credit card to get when you are starting your own small business? I had no IDEA there were so many until I started looking around and it seems like every big card issuer has their own special small business card with different features and fees.
I am so confused! I just need someone to say: "This one rocks! Get THIS one for your new business."
Can anyone do that for me? :)
Thank you in advance. (link)
|
This is a tough question. I too have recently set up my own business, and I am looking for a credit card too. What I find, is that there is not one universal card that is perfect for everyone.
What I am going to do, is to go with the Bank that I have my business account, business insurance, and merchant account with. Not only is it easier to have everything with one company, but they also give you discounts.
Of course, this is not ideal for everyone. What I advise you to do is to shop around for cards. Try and find one that gives you the longest period of interest free purchases. Also find one that has (of course) the lowest interest rates.
Also, as a general rule, stick to the big companies. Not only are they more trusted and safer, but they can also afford to give you better deals.
I assume you are from the US. In the United Kingdom, we have a service called "moneysupermarket.com". It compares *everything* for you. Credit Cards, mobile phones, bank loans, insurance, holidays, cars, Literally every service you can buy. I tried to see if there was a US equivalent, but no luck! Which was really surprising! This is what I used to look around.
Finally, search the internet for a business forum. People on there are very friendly, and can suggest deals etc that they have found/used.
Good luck! :)

Investing in currency is a personal and important financial decision. The typical demographics of this website is the 13-19 year old teenager who won't have a clue about economic management and the complexities of investing in currency.
You should really consult a currency broker, an investor, or your financial adviser.
The fact is, if you have to ask on this website, then it probably isn't best. You really need an understanding of inflation, GDP, and basic economics and the currency market to invest. And even if you did invest (assuming a little amount), you wouldn't make a huge amount of profit.
So either consult a broker or financial adviser.

I got caught shoplifting at an Urban Outfitters two weeks ago with a friend. I had gotten caught with one shirt and she had over $150 worth of things. All they did to me was ask for my ID (I gave them my school ID because I'm only 15) to get my name and they asked for my address. I told the worker an accurate address, but I guess my voice had been trembling because she wrote down something extremely different. I didn't know whether I should have corrected her or not, so I didn't.
They took my friend to the back room and called the cops/got all her information and stuff, but they told me I could go because I didn't take enough things to need assistance from the cops. The only information they have on file of me is my name, a fake address, and possibly my school from my ID.
Yesterday, my friend said she got a civil demand for $500 dollars and now I'm freaking out. She said they hadn't said anything to her about sending her a civil demand and they didn't say anything to me, either, so I'm worried that they did send one and it won't reach me because they don't have my correct address. What do I do? What will happen if I don't pay? What's the best way to go about this situation right now?
I'm aware that I shouldn't have stolen and it was my first time doing so. There is really no use in lecturing me right now because I've heard enough of it already. Thanks in advance. (link)
|
They have your name, and school, and so thats all they need to contact you really.
The cops can show up at your school, ask to see you, its that easy.
If you were served with a civil demand, and you didnt pay, they can take you to court to pay it. I think the best thing, is to ring the court, and confirm the right address. Granted you may get into more trouble, but you will get into even more trouble if you have to go to court.
The chances are however, that you will not need to pay anything, because they let you go. However, they can send you a civil demand, even if a criminal prosecution has not been made against you by the police. Also, if you ignore the letters, whatever your excuse, the fine will get higher and higher.
Best thing is to ring the store, explain that you havnt recieved any letters like your friend has, and just wanted to confirm the address they had. It really is the right thing to do.
Hope i helped :)

what could be the best options to invest 15 lacs to earn good and regular income (link)
|
Is this 15 LAKH RUPEES? make it more clear please. If so, india is developing quickly, so you have good opportunities. Property, or investing in a property company (a big one) is a good idea. You could invest in Gold obviousely, buying low, selling high. A High interest bank account?
However, people on this website wont be able to help you because 1. You dont make your question clear enough 2. Most people aren't from india, and wont understand indian pricing 3. People aren't specialised in indian investment on this website
You should however, go to a financial adviser. Im sure india has plenty. If you are serious about this, then spend a bit of money on a financial adviser. They are qualified to make this decision for you.

I loaned my friend $600 nine months ago to help them keep their small business going. I have since learned that they blew this chunk of money on gambling and various things that were simply not related to the business. I feel like an idiot because I should have seen their immaturity and the warning signs; however, I would very much like to be paid back. When I loaned them the money, it was with the agreement that I would get the full $600 back within six months. Six months are up and they are telling me that I should wait longer. I suggested they pay me weekly until the loan is paid back but they refuse to agree to that.
What should I do now? (link)
| |
legally, you cant do anything, unless you have a written agreement. otherwise...i guess you have to learn from your mistake, and just wait. If not, consult a lawyer. hope you get it sorted! :)

Hello im 18/f. I recently came up with this idea that i want to start my own business. Im not sure what kind of business. Here is some information about me: I was on the cheerleading squad for 3 years, im going to go to college for nursing and psychology. I just came up with this idea. Can anybody help me decide on some topics that i could use. Sell stuff you know. I want it to be successful but who doesnt. I know it takes alot of work but im willing to do it. I just dont wanna spend money then it be pointless. Any ideas would be helpful! Thanks! (link)
| |
maybe like an ebay store? ask people if they want something to sell. You sell it for them at auctions, ebay, amazon etc, and take half the profit or something? Or you could do the same with unwanted items, in which case you would get ALL the money, because they dont want the item anyway.

Ok, so there is this girl I like and she is basically a year older than me.. But we're both sophmores. I like her alot, but we basically "travel in different circles". But we have known each other for about three months now, and we just started talking like a week or so ago. But we've had the same conversation going for the past week.
The bad thing though is, that she is SO freakin gorgeous and im a nerd that has no chance with her, even though we have SOO much in common. She is basically the girl version of me.
Any ideas on how I can get her to like me? (link)
| |
Just because you are a nerd, doesn't mean you don't have a chance with her. Do you consider your self attracting in any way? It has been three months so far so at least you know information about this girl. You have a lot in common with her--good start. And the age shouldn't matter. This is a good start; talking to her. Let her get to know you. You can always spot if this girl likes you, only if she hides it. You can't make a girl like you. Be patient with her and slowly win her heart. You can't rush into things so be a gentlemen about this. Just keep on talking to her even though the conversation is the same...slowly change the subject. If you really like this girl, be patient. If you have a lot in common, there should be tons of things to talk about! It has only been a week so just see what happens and hopefully things will progress. GOOD LUCK!

SO THE LEASSSSSSST I CAN MAKE A MONTH IS 48 DOLLARS! and i usually stay longer than 2 hours!! then I also have a job at a snack bar 2 times a week!! there mad that theres a 2 year contract for the sidekick 3!! i'm like I WILL PROBABLY GET MORE JOBS OVER 2 YEARS WHEN I'M 14 AND 15!!!! god what kid thats 13 offers to pay every penny every month for a cell phone!! first they are like ok if you get a job: I TOLD THEM OVER AND OVER ***I HAVE A JOB****. And i'm NOT ungrateful cause I basically thank my parents a million times if they buy me anything froma pack of gum to a shirt and I usually buy my own stuff. DO YOU THINK I CAN RAISE THE MONEY (link)
|
first off dont write in all caps or use 100 !!!s thats just retarded.
theres no point in screaming at the people on advicenators, since we didnt do anything to you take this out on your family or diary or something
second, you really dont need a phone till your around 14-15. like i really wanted one when i was 13, but none of my friends had one so there was no point in getting one.
you can get a sidekick without a contract, which i would suggest you do. it costs about 400 dollars normally WITHOUT a contract.
AND SO DONT TYPE LIKE THIS ANYMORE!!!! thanks

Hi Everyone! I'm in a pageant and we have to raise money, what can I do to raise money? (link)
|
A good way to raise money are all of the following (to make it easier than reading a paragraph of mumbo jumbo lol)
*Buy something tasty yet cheap at the store and re-sell them for more money.
*Go around to houses and ask to donate money to charity (or the specific event)
*If you are in school, consult your teachers about keeping a can in their rooms to let people donate money and go around to classes in spare time to tell a brief summary on your fundraising.
*Go outside of grocery shops and ask for donations (as well as malls and other popular stores)
*If you are not in school, go to a school nearest to you and consult the principal and ask him/her to make an announcement on the fundraising.
*Ask your friends if they would like to contribute and if they could get some people to help out too.
well GoOd LuCk!!!!! i hope i helped!!!! :-)
*Ask your friends to go
