The one thing I will not do is you homework. I will try and point you towards the answer or help you find the answers you looking for. Ultimately you will have to find the answer yourself.
advice
So this question has been weighing on me ever since my mom and I talked last week. She happened to mention how bogus it was that when we were kids in public school, she claims we were "brain-washed" (rolling my eyes) by the system to partake in recycling programs, and yet when she gave in and signed our household up, she witnessed firsthand the crew take our blue bin and throw the sorted contents in with the rest of the trash and drive away. It got me thinking, I just moved and signed up for recycling, however you don't need to sort. I know we have technology that might do that for us, but it makes me suspicious coupled with the fact that theres only 1 garbage truck. What do they do with the bins contents, like where else do they put them other than with the rest of the trash??
If it's fake, fine but are there REAL programs I can count on? I hateeee waste, but I don't want to also WASTE my time if it turns out recycling is bogus. I will do anything- I'll drive out of my way if that means my stuff can TRULY be RECYCLED. Are there resources I can use? A trusty company? This is driving me bonkers so any advice is appreciated, thank you!!
IK can't truly answer your question for I don't know where you live or how the Township or County is Contracted to have the Recycling collected. What I do know is as follows in the following two examples.
1) In the County next to the one I live in the do not have a landfill for trash. All trash is first picked up and taken to a transfer station where it is sorted. Trash that can not be recycled is separated or burned is separated and put in bins to be trucked to another state landfill. What is recyclable is separated and trucked to a recycling center. The rest is incinerated.
Because of how this County does its recycling are done both together and on separate recycling pick ups. In this manner they have 100% recycling participation.
2) Where I live when recycling started they asked us to separate the recycling. No the same truck that picks up are trash comes back on a different day and picks up only recycling. Since that truck is your standard garbage truck we no longer need to separate our recycling.
I have in my job, as a Rep for a major Hand Tool Manufacture, visited with the maintenance people at many different recycling centers. From what I have seen there is no one tried and true method for a recycling program. Unless the county or township operates its own program then they out a bid out for a contractor to provide a program. As in all government contracts the lowest bid is selected.
(Rating: 5) Super helpful, thank you very much
