I'm 28 years old. I graduated from Michigan State University with my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. GO GREEN! Now I'm a high school chemistry teacher in New York City living with my husband in a small studio apartment we pay way too much money for.
I've been on this site for 14 years as of March 23, 2020.

advice
Does anyone know of any schools that are particularly good in english related majors.
It would be especially helpful if there were some that anyone knows of in new york state. it would definitely help me narrow down my search.
please and thank you!
I'm not from New York, so I'm really relying on google to help me out. I hope you don't mind =]
Here's what I've found:
Pace University:
http://www.pace.edu/page.cfm?doc_id=3773
New York Institute of Technology Department of English:
http://iris.nyit.edu/english/
New York University:
http://careerservices.rutgers.edu/Menglish.html
The College at Brockport:
http://www.brockport.edu/english/
But two universities that I do know of that have a good English program are:
University of Michigan Ann Arbor
Eastern Michigan University
Good luck ;]

I had a wasp nest above my back door a few weeks ago. So I knocked it down. Well guess what? They're rebuilding it. OMG! Wasp are pesky. How do I get rid of a Wasp nest that keeps coming back?
Lol knocking it down won't do much. It only makes them angrier ;]
http://www.howtogetridofstuff.com/pest-control/how-to-get-rid-of-wasps
From there:
4. Getting Rid of Wasp Nests
Any nest near a high traffic area like a playground or entrance way should be destroyed whether it is below or above the ground. The safest way to get rid of an underground nest is to get a certified exterminator to do the job.
If you can't afford the exterminator, which I know is expensive, you should get the spray that you can buy at pretty much any store, and spray the nest, from a small distance, either at night or in the early morning. Eventually the wasps should die.
If the nest keeps coming back, I would ask your parents to hire that exterminator to do the job right ;]

my boyfriend and i have been dating three years- he's 18 and i'm almost 18. i love him more than anything, and i know he loves me the same. the thing is, he doesn't really show it sometimes. i mean, we cuddle, kiss, fool around and all that, and he is sweet sometimes. but other times, it's like he doesn't even want to express how he feels about me. he's never been the really romantic type. but when we first started dating, he wrote me a song, recorded it to a CD, and made a cute little cover for the case as a present for our one & a half years. (we were sort of awkward for the first few months, haha). and he used to leave me cute messages on my away message, and cute little stuff like that. i leave him very cute emails and comments that constantly tell him how i feel. he isn't on his computer much, and his personality isn't one that's super-expressive of his feelings. but then again, i feel like if he's really in love with me, he should want to be cute to me, you know? i just don't want him to take me for granted. i've talked to him about it, and he just says he'll try, but that's 'just how he is'. any help on the issue is greatly appreciated!
The fact that you're still together tells me that he cares about you; especially since it's been three years.
Some people really aren't the romantic type who is always doing things like the CD thing, you know? And I think it really is safe to say that's "just how he is". You can't change that about someone without being hurtful toward them, if that makes sense.
You said you've talked to him about it, and I think you owe it to him to trust that everything is fine and that REALLY is just how he is. If something were seriously wrong, you would know.

wet seal has a link on their page to print out a coupon and get a free tank top.
are there any other clothing stores doing this?
Aeropostale did it back a few months ago, but as far as google tells me [and trust me, I looked about 10 pages in] no one else really does it.
All that came up was Wet Seal.

17/F At work, I recently gained a lot more confidence in what I was doing and made myself a very useful employee who was pleasant to be around. Now, there is a girl my age who is new and I find myself questioning my position a bit. I mean, I made friends with her and she's really sweet, but I need to just go about my day without feeling insecure...any advice?
Is this girl making you feel this way?
Well, that's what it sounds like. I would just ignore her. Don't compare yourself to her. Being envious of other people prevents you from improving yourself, because you become so focused on what they are doing that you don't even notice what YOU are doing.
Focus on yourself; block her out; don't pay attention to what she's doing in terms of her performance. That doesn't mean completely neglect her, just DON'T compare yourself to her.
You said you are a useful employee, so focus on that, and keep doing what you were doing, because honestly who cares about what that other girl is doing?

Hey ,
I was just wondering ,
some people say when you have acne , it depends on the things you eat , if I don't eat any junk food or any things like that will my acne die down a bit or will it keep on spreading?
thank you!
It should die down, but if it doesn't, here's a method to get rid of acne that I know works:
http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?q=507367
From there:
I know this sounds weird, odd, strange, etc., but what I'm about to say to you ACTUALLY works:
Get some lemon juice. You got the lemon juice? Alright- now take the lemon juice- and take a Q-tip and dab some lemon juice onto your zit with the lemon juice. Just a thin layer- not the whole bottle, silly! =D
Alright- so doing this at night is the best thing to do- it will really reduce the size and shape of the zit- and you won't know it was there in a few days.
Make sure not to touch it with your fingers after you put on the lemon juice- the oils from your fingers will stop the effect.
Relax- everyone gets zits- so you're only normal =D.

im a 15 year old boy and i have a 12 year old brother. recently we have started to masturbate together in my room whilst watching porn on my laptop, but we NEVER touch each other. before and during masturbation i feel this is the right thing to do but then after i finish i feel incredibly guilty. im a straight lad and i have had a few girlfriends, but sometimes i worry that masturbating in the same room as my brother is morally wrong. is it natural for us to do this or is it perverted and wrong??
please help me!! :(
I've heard so many stories about my great uncle who used to do that kind of stuff with his friends and his brother in the room, and he isn't gay or anything.
Do what you feel comfortable with. If it freaks you out, don't do it anymore with him.
It's a little weird [at least to me], but if it's comfortable for both of you, then by all means, do it. Who cares what other people think?

okk so i have this problem. i crave attention from guys. i always want guys to notice me and like me and think im hott and everything. this isnt good tho because i can attract guys who only want to use me and because i love the attention i still talk to them and stuff. idk..its just a bad habit and i want to kno what to do. thanks so much :]
http://www.advicenators.com/qview.php?q=505520
From there:
The best way to attract a guy is to be yourself. If you try to change yourself just to get a boyfriend [especially at your age]- you'll just end up with someone who only likes you for what you've become- not who you are. If you be yourself- and don't change- you'll attract more guys who actually care about your personality rather than just your looks.
I myself like any type of girl. I honestly don't judge looks as much as I do personality. If a girl is absolutely stunningly beautiful, but she's a bitch- why would I like her? What would our relationship be? What would we talk about? Her latest hair extensions? Yeah- that would be REALLY nice *Sarcasm: Party of one!*...
If a girl has a really nice personality- and she's really outgoing and sweet and nice and smart- and she's not necessarily the best looking girl- but she's not super unattractive- then I'll most likely want to date her over the beautiful bitch.
Do you get what I'm saying? If you let guys see your personality more than your looks- you'll end up with someone great. Trust me- most guys prefer personality over looks- they just don't know it yet =].

What city did they live in on Cheech & Chong?
Or umm. okay i want a coool city to put on my myspace. (like where you put what city you really live in, but most people put something funny or cool) it has to go along with one of the countries on myspace's list though. help please!
I have NO idea where they lived in on Cheech & Chong. All wikipedia told me was that the guy who played Cheech was born in Los Angeles.. ;]
Here's some other suggestions:
City: I am
Country: Hungary
City: I like
Country: Turkey
City: It's very
Country: Chile
Just get creative. Mine is this:
City: Kansas
Country: Kazakhstan
But then again, that's an inside joke which probably no one would understand ;]
P.S. I could have swore I answered this question before. Somehow it got deleted off of my column? Hmm...

Okay, so my boyfriend and I will be celebrating out two year anniversary in two months. I wanna do something special. Not something ordinary though. I want it to be simple, but romantic. Something like a picnic, but more detailed. I know it's not a lot of information, but any suggestions would be very appreciated.. Thanks =]
Make a scrapbook of the past two years you two have shared together, with pictures and whatnot. My sister did that last year for her boyfriend on their one year.
They actually went on a picnic at the beach, too. She kept going on and on about how much fun she had and how much she loved her ideas. Especially since she made the picnic herself ;].
You really don't have to go all-out for anniversaries; in fact, going overboard can definitely be a turn off to your boyfriend. Like if you're trying to hard. So a simple picnic, like you said, is really enough. Maybe give him a little basket with a few of his favorite pops, his favorite candy and his favorite CD or something. Oh! And make him a homemade card. Getting generic Hallmark cards can be appropriate at times, but homemade is much more romantic, you know? And he'll appreciate it more.
Good luck ;]

# Crank up some music

# Make a humorous crank phone call
# Make an entertaining phone answering-machine message
# Make up poems or songs about your boredom
# Break into a friend's house and clean it
Call a wrong number and talk to whoever answers.
# Catch a fly, then put in a jar and stick in the fridge (this cools their metabolism down), then tie the fly to the end of a thread 15in. and hold the other end of the thread while you watch it fly around (We have tested this and it works - a lot of patience is involved)
# Chase your best friend round the sofa
# Dance around your living room naked
# Doodle or cartoon
# Dress in something silly and laugh at yourself
# Fiddle around with a Ouija board
# Figure out how to get yourself on TV

# Have a carpet picnic
# Have a staring contest with yourself in the mirror.
# Kiss your elbow, if you can.
# Lay a long straight line of masking tape on the floor. Now spin around really fast then try walking on the masking tape.
Enjoy not being bored anymore. That should occupy you for a few hours =D

Hey, so me and my friend slept over this guys house the other night. Well the next day [like th day i woke up at his house] my town had this carnival so I walked up to him and I was like Hey! and he was just like Heyy. and We walked away from eachother..whats wrong with me? like what did i do to piss him off.
Maybe he was tired? I don't know, I certainly can't read his mind =O
If you want to know why he was so evasive, just ask him.
9 and a half times out of ten, the solution to a problem is to communicate with the other parties involved.

I was recently diagnosed with polycystic ovary disease. To help with the symptoms, I need to lose weight. I know that this means I need to change my lifestyle - the way I eat and how active I am. I don't have a lot of money and I live in the city. My apartment is fairly small. These aren't excuses, just information to give you an idea of my situation. I don't need anyone saying mean or obvious things like "don't eat as much" or "get off your ass" because that is in no way helpful.
Basically, any advice anyone could give about how I can lose weight, either to do with eating or physical activity, would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
Hello!
I'm sorry about your diagnosis =/.
Anyway, the best way to become lose weight is not to be told "don't eat as much" or "get off your ass". When you cut meals, it's actually a lot worse for you. What you need to do is lessen your calorie/fat/carb intake. To do this, just watch what you're eating. If it has too much fat, don't eat it. If there are too many carbs [by that I mean more than 300 or so] per item, then don't eat it. It's really common sense.
Dieting can help you lose weight, but exercise is really what helps you lose it faster. And the exercise doesn't have to be intense. It should be about 30 minutes a day for at least 5 days a week.
If you want specific exercise plans, this may help:
By the way, I HATE these type of questions, but since your motive isn't to get into a bathing suit by next week in order to get all the cute guys at the beach, or whatever, I decided to help you ;]
Good luck with becoming fit =] You are in my prayers ;]
