Confidence.

Question Posted Sunday June 29 2008, 4:12 pm

17/F At work, I recently gained a lot more confidence in what I was doing and made myself a very useful employee who was pleasant to be around. Now, there is a girl my age who is new and I find myself questioning my position a bit. I mean, I made friends with her and she's really sweet, but I need to just go about my day without feeling insecure...any advice?

You must feel threatened. Especially if she's one of those petite, cute, and bubbly type os girls. I say to just ignore her but still be nice. Its not like since she's there your going to become a mean old lady. No, you'll still be you and a pleasure to be around. Keep your confidence becuase I know its hard to get and can make you feel hopeless if you lose it.

Is this girl making you feel this way?

Well, that's what it sounds like. I would just ignore her. Don't compare yourself to her. Being envious of other people prevents you from improving yourself, because you become so focused on what they are doing that you don't even notice what YOU are doing.

Focus on yourself; block her out; don't pay attention to what she's doing in terms of her performance. That doesn't mean completely neglect her, just DON'T compare yourself to her.

You said you are a useful employee, so focus on that, and keep doing what you were doing, because honestly who cares about what that other girl is doing?
