Can you be forgiven for being gay? Is it really a sin? What if you just want to try it and see what happens are you going to be penalized for that? Can someone help me asap.. these questions are for a friend who really needs it (link)
Homosexuality IS a sin. The bible calls it an abomination. There is ALWAYS consequence to sin; any sin. Thinking you (or in this case your friend) can just "try" it and turn away, is a lie! That's how Adam and Eve got suckered into the first sin. God told Adam and Eve if they ate of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, they would surely die. THEY CHOSE to eat from the tree. Did they die? Absolutely! Their spirit died and they were separated from God. They didn't immediately fall over dead, but they started to age and eventually their bodies died too. That sinful nature is now passed on to all of us. That was the consequences.

God loves people so much that He sent Jesus so we could be forgiven and to those who accept Jesus, they are forgiven. But even with forgiveness there WILL BE consequences. The consequences are not worth stepping into such a wicked lifestyle.

16/m Hi I've read some of your other answers to questions and i really enjoyed reading them so I decided that that maybe you can help me too. Ok this is a little confusing but i think you can help with this one.

Ok Last summer i accepted Jesus into my life. I started to try to live the right way and stuff. I still try to do that, but somehow I dont feel like I am saved. I asked God to save me a couple of times before, but it just doesn't feel like I really am saved. I was just wondering where you stand on this issue. So I guess the question is, how do you know when you're saved? Thanks for your help. (link)
This is one of the most common concerns that younger believers, and sometimes older believers have; I don't feel saved, am I?

Romans 8:16 states that; "The spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children." So the first answer to the question of how we know is that the Spirit of God is the one who testifies to us that we are saved. It is not for people to give assurance of salvation, neither is it someone to simply convince themselves that they are saved. It is the work of the Holy Spirit that bears witness with our spirit that we are saved.

The next question should be; how does the Spirit bear witness with our spirit? Ephesians 2:8 tells us "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is a gift of God..." Faith is the avenue by which a person is saved and it is faith that is produced, by the Spirit, when He testifies that we are God's children (Rom. 10:17). Therefore, we know we are saved because the Spirit of God testifies to our spirit that we are God's children and faith is produced in us.

What is faith? The Bible gives us the definition in Hebrews 11:1 "Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." So, what the Spirit produces in us when He testifies to our spirit that we are God's children, is a certainty that even though we do not see the full reality of being children of God while we are on this earth, by faith we have an internal confidence that we belong to God. That internal confidence comes from the Lord and that is what we should count on to know that we are saved.

If you lack that confidence, seek the Lord to produce that in you. I know without a doubt He will. I'll pray for you.

In your opinion (meaning that if you tell me what you think you'll get a 5), do you think that people should miss out on church in order to do yardwork, study for an exam, play in a soccer tournament, etc? I just want to know what qualifies as an acceptable excuse for not going to church. What other good reasons are there for missing church? -no I'm not trying to avoid going to church-

Thanks! (link)
This isn't really about physically going to church or not. This is a heart issue. Church is what....an hour maybe a little more for some? If a person's heart is desiring the things of God, going to church is something a person WANTS to do and everything else is not important enough to miss church for.

I wanted to help someone with an advice question about a death in teh family, and I thought I'd explain a little bit of what the bible says about Heaven.. Only, I couldn't find any descriptions! Yeah, I found some for the new city of jerusalem God will make later, but nothing about the current heaven.. help?
Signed,
don't know where to stand... (link)
I don't know exactly what you're looking for, but here is my understanding along with some verses: Those who trusted God by accepting His son Jesus as the sacrifice for there sin await judgment in "paradise". The judgement for believers will be awards for what the did with their lives to serve God. Those who did not accept Jesus, wait in hell for their judgement of punishment. At the end of the world, those who trusted God go to heaven and those who did not trust God are "cast into the lake of fire".

The theif on the cross next to Jesus believed Jesus to be the Savior and was saved........

Luk 23:42-43 And he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." And he [Jesus]said to him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise."

Once the person's spirit leaves their body, they are in the presence of the Lord. Like stated about, that presence is wonderful for those who believed as this verse states...........

2Co 5:6-8 So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

This is a good one.........

Luk 16:22-26 The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.' But Abraham said, 'Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.'

I am racially Jewish.

As far as my faith goes? I'm not quite sure. I was raised thinking Jesus is the true Messiah, not not worshiping him, per say. My father's side of the family has a lot of Jewish traditions woven in with Catholic ones.

I think Christians worship Jesus INSTEAD of God, and I don't think that's right.

I DO NOT want to be a Jew for Jesus. I'm sorry, I'm not praying in a highschool gym. Its not going to happen. I've prayed in both churches and synagogues, because I just say, "Hey, its the same God, right?"

But the way of worshiping Him is quite different. I have no idea who I am, where I fit, or where I should go to pray. (link)
I just answered a question about prayer that may be helpful to you. Take a look. As far as worshiping Jesus......When true Christians worship Jesus, they are worshiping God because Jesus is God who came to earth in the flesh. The Bible says:

John 14:9 .......Whoever has seen me (Jesus) has seen the Father......

John 10:30 I (Jesus) and the Father are one."

Gen 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make man in OUR (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) image, after OUR likeness....."

Humans are body, soul, and spirit. God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the Messiah (which means Anointed One)

I'm atheist and i'm just curious what christians and creationists think about dinosaurs. like where they came from, when they lived, etc. Any christians ive asked about this just kind of avoid it (link)
Here are a couple links I think you'll find interesting.

http://www.answersingenesis.org/home/area/faq/dinosaurs.asp

http://christiananswers.net/dinosaurs/home.html

I am a Christian and I believe in God... I love God. It's just that more and more I feel I'm drifting away from my Lord. Sometimes I'll pray and promise God I will pray more and talk to him more, but I either forget to and rarely but sometimes I will say in my head, "I need to pray," but then I don't(purposely).
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get closer to God, or ways to strengthen my relationship with the Lord? I don't want to be this way... but when it comes to praying...I just don't. Any ideas? Express your feelings! Thank you so much! (link)
Let me encourage you with this. The simple fact that this is bothering you tells me your heart must be right on. Because this is a desire of your heart and God's will for His children, I have no doubt you will be granted this. Psalm 37:4 says, "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give the desires of your heart."

Now, about prayer.....The bible says in First Thes. 5:17 to pray without ceasing. Praying isn't always "get on your knees in a quiet room" or that verse wouldn't be in the bible. To pray without ceasing means to take the Lord with you wherever you go all day and all night. Meditate on His Word (means to think about what His word says) and ask Him what it means. Tell Him about your friend who is hurting. Ask Him to provide what you need. These things can be done while you're in the shower, washing dishes, or whatever. It can be in your mind, on your lips, or in a journal. But even more importantly, listen. God doesn't shout; He whispers. So quiet your spirit and and let Him speak to you. Prayer is conversation not just your words.

That's not to say you don't set aside time to get on your knees in a quiet place and spend time with Him. Quiet time is necessary. What I do is I read from the Old Testament before I go to sleep at night and the New Testament before I get up in the morning. I read whether I want to or not. Then as I fall asleep at night or go about my day, I digest what I've read which helps me focus on Him.

Making promises to God is a good way to set yourself up for failure as you well know. Satan will do everything to get you in a place of discouragement. So instead of making promises, tell the Lord what's on your mind, ask Him for help, and then trust Him.

Today I decided to completley put my faith and trust into God, I really took him into my life today. However, I just started going to church last year so I was never baptised and never confirmed. Can I still expect to go to Heaven? What exactly does being confirmed or baptised mean? (link)
Being baptized is a public display of your faith. Going down in the water represents your belief in Christ's death and coming up out of the water represents being born again; that your old self is left behind and you are beginning your life with Christ. There is a spiritual freedom that takes place when a person is baptized. The Bible says in Mark 16:16 "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned."

Confirmation is a tradition in the Catholic and Lutheran churches. Maybe some other mainline denominations too, but that's all it is, it's a manmade tradition. There is nothing in the bible to support this act. Denominations that believe a person needs to be confirmed usually believe in infant baptism. But the verse above is very clear that belief comes first. If you look through the bible, there were no infants or little children baptized. Only people old enough to make the choice to believe.

I am completely confused about what I am. In regards to religion. I know i am christian, but I know nothing about it. I have never read the bible..and I know that most of the stuff in it I don't truly believe. And does God look down upon me for choosing not to believe parts of the bible? (link)
The word Christian literally means "follower of Christ". True followers of Christ KNOW Jesus as their PERSONAL Lord and Savior. That said, if you know nothing about it and you choose not to believe what God says is true, What do you base your "Christianity" on?

is god there? where is he, how do i know... (link)
I know God is there because I read His Word and believed it. That revealed truth and produced a faith I can't deny. Seeing isn't believing, believing is seeing. It's trusting what the Bible says is true.

I will give you something to think about though.....I mean REALLY think about this. Do you think something as intricate as the human eye appeared by chance? It's as likely as me shaking an apple tree and without ever touching an apple, every apple that falls would line up in a perfect line with 3.78 inches of space inbetween each apple. Only a fool would believe that would happen. However, if I shook the tree and placed every apple exactly 3.78 inches apart. Now everyone would believe that.

The Bible says in Psalm 19:1&2 .....The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.

Where there is a building, there is a builder. Where there is a painting, there is a painter. Look at nature. If you really open your eyes and look, you can't help but believe there is a intelligant designer. That designer is God. But not just any god. He is the God of the Bible. Just like me placing the apples in a perfectly spaced line, God created the heavens and the earth.

Read the Bible and believe. You will see things like you never saw them before.

im wiccan and often my friends consider it satanism because its not following a god you never see or a carpenter who was nailed to a big t

so my question is if its not christ is it satan (link)
Satan was once a beautiful angel, but got cast out of heaven because he wanted to be greater than God. His pride doomed him to the lake of fire. When God created the world, He made people in His image and gave them a free will. God wanted people to love Him for who He was and not a bunch of robots. God made Adam and Eve (the first people)and placed them in the Garden of Eden. He told Adam and Eve that they could eat from any tree except the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Satan slithered into the Garden of Eden where Adam and Eve lived, and tempted them to eat from that tree and they did. They disobeyed God and from that moment on, all creation lives under the curse of sin. God can't look at sin because He is pure holiness, so He sent His son Jesus to be a sacrifice for sin so people would have a way to be reconciled to God again. If a person has accepted the sacrifice of Jesus, they get to spend eternity in heaven. Those who reject Jesus will spend eternity in hell with satan.

I'm afraid your friends are right. The wicca religion is a blatant worship of satan. Here is a verse from the Bible: 2Ch 33:6 "And he burned his sons as an offering in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, and used fortune-telling and omens and sorcery, and dealt with mediums and with wizards. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger." You see, God sees these things as evil and this is what the wicca religion is about.

Although wicca is a blatant worship of satan, any religion that does not preach God's grace through Jesus Christ for salvation alone is a "false religion" and those who believe they can get to heaven any other way than Christ will also be in hell.

This is how satan works. He lies and tries to convince people to do things his way. Satan is not anyone's friend. He wants everyone to be dammed like him because he knows his destination is hell. He knows that people who accept Jesus will not be his any longer. And he hates people because we are made in God's image.

Jesus loves you soooo much that He gave His own life that you might be saved. You are in a dangerous place. You have believed satan's lies, but it doesn't have to be that way anymore. All you need to do is cry out to Jesus, confess your sins to Him and let Jesus help you out of the place your in. I'll warn you, it may not be easy. Since you have been involved in the direct worship of satan, he may put up a fight to keep you in his clutches. But Jesus is stronger than satan. Have faith and believe.

I am confused. I am a Christian, and I am trying to figure out, well, what "kind" of Christian to be, like a Catholic, Baptist, etc etc.

My question is, what religion are you, Christian-wise (I have nothing against other religions, I promise!), and why? What are some of your beliefs? Thanks! (link)
Being a Christian is something you are; it's a part of your being. It's not somthing you do or the church you attend. "Religion" by definition is a system. A true Christian doesn't base beliefs on a system, but on truth. Truth is found in Jesus which is based on the bible. Know what the bible has to say about being a follower of Christ, and find a church that teaches those truths. You will not find a perfect church, but no matter if you go to a catholic, or Baptist, or whatever; weigh everything they say against what the bible says and if it doesn't line up, the person is wrong not the bible. Ask the pastor/priest questions. Most importantly, be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. If the truth of the Bible isn't preached, hightail it out of there and keep searching. You'll know when you've found where you're supposed to be.

does anyone kno a good web site with some bible verses or a place where i can search bible verses and dont tell me google cause i already looked and didn't do any help

Hey guys. I am always pessimistic and does any1 know what i could do to make me optimistic. (link)
Many optimistic people jump into things to quickly and end up in trouble. Many pessimistic people are held back from doing anything because of fear. The ideal is finding a healthy balance. In the big picture of things, both are needed. The optimist invented the airplane and the pessimist invented the parachute. Individually speaking, when you find yourself in a situation that you automatically tend to be pessimistic, stop and think before giving into that "feeling" or "desire". Is there something else that could be worse? Are you going to die if you chose to be happy and positive? This is good you want to be more optimistic, but use wisdom, and then make a choice.

Hey im agnostic, a pretty strong agnostic i guess... which might seem weird cuz when i was younger i was the most religous person in my family! None of us ever went to church but i really wanted to and stuff, and then as we got older everyone except my dad whose athiest got big on religon, except me, who just stopped believeing. I dont know why i just started to really think about it, and ask myself questions about it, and i just couldnt believe it anymore. Then later on i became wiccan for awhile, but i went through depression and stopped believing again. I think mostly religon is something that people really need to hold onto and believe in, and so they create it. I totally understand that religons tend to be good, and they have good values and things like that, but i dont think they're true. im not likely to change my mind [and yea i HAVE been to church], but i figured id give anyone a chance to explain to me how they know their religon is true... please don quote the bible unless ur gonna tell me how you know the bibles true too. And dont say you just KNOW, because people always tell me that they just KNOW that their god is the real one and not someone elses, and then that person comes up and tells me the same thing.
Dont be stupid. I rate high! Thanks... (link)
First of all, no person can convert anyone. If I could convert you, I would be claiming to be God. Since I am a human like everyone else, all I can do is point you to truth and then it's up to the Holy Spirit to convince you of that truth and you have a free will to accept or reject it. The Holy Spirit may use my words to convince you, but your conversion is ultimately up to you.

I grew up in a "religious" family and like you, I stopped believing. I searched until I found the Truth. Religion is not apart of me anymore or what I believe. Anyone can have religion -- prayers that have no heart, deeds that are done thinking salvation will be achieved, manmade traditions that mean nothing, lists of do's and don'ts that are impossible -- these things are useless. I have a relationship with God because I have accepted His Grace through Jesus Christ. Grace is a gift that can't be earned. I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He died for my sins so that I will have eternal life in heaven. I believe there is a real hell that people will go to when they die if they do not have Jesus as their Savior.

Why can I believe that? Because throughout my life, the Holy Spirit has convinced me of Truth by sending people across my path to challenge me, He has caused the Bible to come alive and has given me understanding, and He has opened my eyes to things around me. My heart was open and I desired to know Truth. I didn't accept this just because "it seemed right". I accepted it because the Holy Spirit convinced me it IS right.

but my friend is a chrisitan. He wants me to go to church with him every week, and im not all that enthusiastic. I feel guilty for even thinking about saying no because i get all self concious when i think of him thinking of me as a sinner. Anyways we were having a very good time at a footbal game and then we were talking about stuff and somehow the topic just came up about dying. He was like, no offense but if you died right now i think you'd go to hell. He was being really serious. Well, it depressed the hell out of me. Im a nice person, i dont try to judge people, i like to share, my morals are higher then anyone elses and then i get depressed because i cant live up to them. I was really hurt but i didnt let on. He wouldnt elaborate, he said we could talk about it on the phone sometime. Well, do you think it was right of him to say that? Or am i just being dumb? I cant help but feel like im some kind of 'project' hes trying to save... (link)
There's a difference between being judgmental and wanting to share truth. Your friend sounds like he is very concerned about your eternal life or he wouldn't have risked saying something to you. Your friend can't save you. He can only point you to the one who can.

You get depressed from not living up to all these things because your inner self knows they aren't good enough and they never will be. I can relate to that feeling. But there is a way to be free and that is giving your life to Jesus Christ. Jesus paid the price for your sins and is waiting for you to accept that by accepting His sacrifice. Your friend is right -- if you died without Christ, you'd go to hell. But don't let a another day go by without seeking out the One who gave His very life to save you from such a fate.

Don't take my word for it. Ask your friend for a bible and read it. Ask your friend to pray for you to have understanding. Ask questions. Go to church with him. Seek and you WILL find. Jesus loves you very much!

I'm horribly apprehensive about my up soming Bat Mitzvah!! I have prepared a very long speech about what i learned in hebrew school. Thats not what im nervous about though. I'm nervous about the hebrew reading (which is actually written in transliteration). I get nervous and start shaking. Sometimes I get so nervous that I talk really fast and slur my words. I don't want to mess up a day that is all about me!! How can I gain some CONFIDENCE in myself!! I'm so gunna screw up!! (link)
It may be a celebration with you as the honored guest, but if I understand correctly, a Bat Mitzvah is about becoming a man. If that is true, being a real man is not about you, but rather about responsibility and sacrifice - about serving God.

There are practical things you can do regarding your speech, and they have been mentioned, but your focus seems to be on fear of people instead of what God wants. That is what needs to change first and everything else will fall into place.

Okay my question is long. This is something I am so confused on. Some people say demons do not exsist, but how can they not? We have reports of actual exorcisms and demon possession. Some people have their doubts and still say it's some sort of mental illness and an exocism drives thaty out of them. I believe demons are real, and if I believe demonic possession is real could a possession happen to myself? Now, I am trying to be rational in all and I know there hasn't been a possession/exorcism reported since the late 1940s. But the cases I have read throughly, they sound like real demonic possession and not just a mental illness. In the cases there was supernatural things going on such as levatation, sexual obsenities, foreign languages going on, self-mutilation, vomitting, moving of furniture, etc etc...now how can that be catagorized as a mental illness? But initially some people still believe it is. As for myself, Im really intrested in this sort of thing, I am also wondering if learning too much and sort of becomming obsessed with this sort of thing could open me up to possession? Sometime possession can occur differently for other people, people say the devil is always with you, and filling your mind with thoughts you can't control. Lately I have been having many of those thoughts, evil thoughts. Contemplating suicide, self-mutilation, alot of anger, could I be getting into this too far or could it be something else like depression etc, I know none of you can give me a straight answer but I would like input on what your beliefs are about this whole thing, it's very very hard to understand and complicated. (link)
The devil is not all present like God. If he was, every plane would be knocked out of the sky. The devil is a fallen angel so the devil himself is not always with you. He has an army; legions of demons (fallen angels that chose to follow him) that work on individuals. The devil uses these demons, and people who are willing to listen to the evil thoughts that are planted in their minds, to plan. However, if his plans are foiled, it's because someone chose to take a stand and said "NO!". He will try and get as many people who are willing to reject the only one who could save them - Jesus. If you have Jesus, the devil has no power over you at all. He can't posess you because Christ is in you. John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. Are you free? Do you have Jesus? If so, here is what God has to say:

1Pe 5:8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Jam 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Phi 4:4-8 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

If you do not have Jesus, today is the day to say yes to Him.

God says that he refuses to prove himself, because that would deny faith, and without faith he is nothing, so if someone were to find proof, then by gods own reasoning he couldnt exist-is this plausible (link)
Have you read the bible? I mean really read the bible as a whole and not just one verse out of context? Have you looked out the window today? Where do you think everything came from? Look in the mirror at your eyeball. Do you really believe that evolved from something other than God Almighty? There is proof everywhere of the existence of God; it's just that some people refuse to believe it. They try to reason it away. Then there are the ones who step out in FAITH and accept the fact that God is Holy and Sovereign, and humans are sinful and need Jesus. Which group do you think God is going to reveal more of Himself too?

Can you explain the meaning of empaphy in relation to religious context please. (link)
Do you mean Epiphany?
