Convert me if you think you can...

Question Posted Saturday October 22 2005, 6:58 pm

Hey im agnostic, a pretty strong agnostic i guess... which might seem weird cuz when i was younger i was the most religous person in my family! None of us ever went to church but i really wanted to and stuff, and then as we got older everyone except my dad whose athiest got big on religon, except me, who just stopped believeing. I dont know why i just started to really think about it, and ask myself questions about it, and i just couldnt believe it anymore. Then later on i became wiccan for awhile, but i went through depression and stopped believing again. I think mostly religon is something that people really need to hold onto and believe in, and so they create it. I totally understand that religons tend to be good, and they have good values and things like that, but i dont think they're true. im not likely to change my mind [and yea i HAVE been to church], but i figured id give anyone a chance to explain to me how they know their religon is true... please don quote the bible unless ur gonna tell me how you know the bibles true too. And dont say you just KNOW, because people always tell me that they just KNOW that their god is the real one and not someone elses, and then that person comes up and tells me the same thing.
Dont be stupid. I rate high! Thanks...

first , honestly , i don't want to convert you at all. because i know, a believer will definitely have this kind of situation because he dont have any experience in what he believe. as you said, all the religions one way or other way , has many people's interpretions in its. inthe ancient days, media is not so powerful. everything transmitted verbally. and you know , you may get so many thing in your life, and when it goes from you to some one, it will go added with your stuff or preferences etc with that. in thousands of years, nothing will be except for this change,. the question came within you, when your logical brain does not found proper reason for your belief or in otherway, it does not satisfy with what it got. that's all. i can suggest an experiment process. may be you can do some experiment with it in your day to day life. experiment is a scientfic process, and definetily has a result, eventhough it may not be match with others. but you will definitely get a result according to your application and involvement. yoga is one such way of scientific application eventhough it came from eastern culture. i know the yoga centre, situated in coimbatore, tamilnadu, south india, named isha yoga center run by charitable organisaation ishafoundation under the guidence of living master sadhguru jaggi vasudev. his approach is more realistic and
applicaple to day to day life in very easy way. if you wish you can found the website www.ishafoundation.org for more information or classes.

I'm a Wiccan, and I DON'T know that my path, or God and Goddess, is the right one. I grew up a Christian (not a practising one, mind, but in a Christian society, celebrating Christian festivals) and then converted. I'm often scared I'll go to hell or something because I've chosen the wrong thing.

However, when I first found Wicca, it was different. Something inside me clicked with it. I understood it, I WAS it. Straight away I knew this was the right religion for me because I agreed with so much of what it said. It's only doubts AFTER this realisation which make me wonder if I'm doing the right thing. The hardest part for me is actually going from one male God to a main female GodDESS as well as a God! It's a big adjustment to make, mind-wise. Did you ever get to that stage? I know I'm supposed to be giving the help here, but if you did, any ideas? :)

A big part of Wicca is trusting your instincts, remember? Trust yours! :) Research loads of religions, and when you find one that clicks...you know you have it.

okay,I'm going to tell you right off the bat that im Christian, and Im just gonna tell you how it is and be very upfront.First of all, -look outside. How do you think all of this got here?Just by a big BOOM and there was life and man automatically had knowledge and knowing exactly what to do in the beginning, and everything was just perfect?Take a look in the mirror.Look at your eye..you think evoloution created that?Besides, even if evoloution were true, shouldn't everything be perfect by now? I mean, think about it, if everything just evolved, wouldn't the world have no suffering, pain or evil? The world would be perfect in every way..and i'm sure thats not how things are today.I can tell you that God exists and loves you MORE than you could imagine because I have a personal relationship with Him, and no one can touch that. You can't tell me my God isn't true because I have a relatoinship with Him.How can you say you are a strong agnostic when you don't have proof? There's enough proof out there that there's a God, its just that alot of people ignore it and wont believe it.God loves you so much.So much, that He sent His only son down to earth just so He could die so that YOU could be forgiven of sinning and go to heaven.Could you imagine doing that?If you want to know why everyone dosent worship God and believe in Him, its because He gave us a choice.A gift. What kind of gift would it be if we were just told to serve Him?Those who chose to do so will be blessed and go to heaven, but those who chose not to believe in Him will burn in Hell forever.Sound fun?lol jk, but i hope this helped you realize that there is an almighty God who loves you so much and is waiting for you to come back to Him but in a way youve never experienced before. Please keep me posted..

xoxo

ps-also notice that all the agnostics who are trying to keep you agnostic do not have good support to back themselves up

mylordwon answered Sunday October 23 2005, 3:08 pm:
First of all, no person can convert anyone. If I could convert you, I would be claiming to be God. Since I am a human like everyone else, all I can do is point you to truth and then it's up to the Holy Spirit to convince you of that truth and you have a free will to accept or reject it. The Holy Spirit may use my words to convince you, but your conversion is ultimately up to you.

I grew up in a "religious" family and like you, I stopped believing. I searched until I found the Truth. Religion is not apart of me anymore or what I believe. Anyone can have religion -- prayers that have no heart, deeds that are done thinking salvation will be achieved, manmade traditions that mean nothing, lists of do's and don'ts that are impossible -- these things are useless. I have a relationship with God because I have accepted His Grace through Jesus Christ. Grace is a gift that can't be earned. I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and He died for my sins so that I will have eternal life in heaven. I believe there is a real hell that people will go to when they die if they do not have Jesus as their Savior.

Why can I believe that? Because throughout my life, the Holy Spirit has convinced me of Truth by sending people across my path to challenge me, He has caused the Bible to come alive and has given me understanding, and He has opened my eyes to things around me. My heart was open and I desired to know Truth. I didn't accept this just because "it seemed right". I accepted it because the Holy Spirit convinced me it IS right.

As a matter of fact, I'm kind of with you on that one. But, the thing that really gets me is that everything predicted in the Bible(war, natural disasters, secret codes, etc.) has come true. So it always makes me think twice. Hope I helped you a little bit! :)

I actually was in the same boat you're in, and to this day, I'm a firm believer that Jesus Christ exists. I am the type of person, that I feel you are, who can't just "believe". I need something solid as proof and with religion, that's hard to find. My proof is science. I'm very interested in science and in the olden days, science always proved the existance of a "greater being" wrong but more recent studies are proving that to be incorrect and that some "greater being" must exist. I mean look outside, read about outer space, study the human make-up, do you really think this all could just happen? Well, if you do you're wrong cuz it couldn't. There has to be something or someone omnipotent and allpowerful that has created all this. And I also believe that the reason scientists have such a hard time making discoveries about space is that whatever or whoever that all power individual is, has created obstacles that humans will never climb in order to separate the heavens and the spiritual world separate from reality. Scientists have theories proving space to be infinate and if that's true, what's out there? Something allright and I'm sure it's something that we won't find out until we die. Plus, I feel everyone needs a rulebook for life to keep themselves from becoming dregs of society and the Bible or whatever religious material serves as that rule book. I mean if you were to die after having served a religious life and there was no heaven, then what did you lose? Nothing, y? because you don't know, you're dead. But what if you don't believe and turns out it's true and now you're stuck in hell forever? What then? I would much rather opt for the first choice and after believing this for awhile now, you do start to "believe" it. You just know it's true after awhile. You see the difference. I hope I at least somewhat convinced you. Tell me how it goes. :) PS-It's a known fact that religous people have better relationships and are just happier people.
