Question Posted Saturday December 3 2005, 10:53 pm
I am confused. I am a Christian, and I am trying to figure out, well, what "kind" of Christian to be, like a Catholic, Baptist, etc etc.
My question is, what religion are you, Christian-wise (I have nothing against other religions, I promise!), and why? What are some of your beliefs? Thanks!
In the Baptist Church i was raised in you believed in Jesus, The Holy Spirt, etc. && you also believed in being born-again. Things that most Christian's believe in.
At Victory Hill they believe in everything as stated above, but at this one they are way more upbeat. People shout, raise hands in worship, and things like that. It's really a lot of fun.
short1 answered Wednesday December 28 2005, 11:49 pm: um, first off, i totally disagree with one person;s advice,...christians do NOT believe that praying to mary isn impotant, and thats really rude to bash someone's religion like that if you know nothing about it,. Its not that its not important to us, its that, mary cant help you. Mary was chosen by God to deliver Jesus. She was a regular person just like you and me. praying to her is just praying to a dead relative if you really think about it.She was Just a person, she has no real power. She was BLESSED because she was chosen by God.
MAtthew 1:18-25
to summarize for ya, it basically talks about how mary was chosen to birth Jesus and how the angel came to Joseph to explain God's will for Jesus' virgin birth.
Matthew 1:23- Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpretted, means God with us.
thewonderchef answered Friday December 16 2005, 11:00 pm: I personally am a baptist, out of all the denominations I think that it is the most biblically based. Meaning that there is much less interpretation on man's part. The word of God is the word of God and should be taken literally unless it doesnt make sense in which case, look for the meaning in the text. MikeDaBoobNinja answered Thursday December 15 2005, 6:23 pm: I'm baptist and it rocks! You get to listen to music, it's laid back. Everyone at my church feels like they're my family. Baptist is DEFINITLY the way to go. I know a lot of people that lost their faith going over to a catholic church.

mylordwon answered Monday December 5 2005, 1:10 pm: Being a Christian is something you are; it's a part of your being. It's not somthing you do or the church you attend. "Religion" by definition is a system. A true Christian doesn't base beliefs on a system, but on truth. Truth is found in Jesus which is based on the bible. Know what the bible has to say about being a follower of Christ, and find a church that teaches those truths. You will not find a perfect church, but no matter if you go to a catholic, or Baptist, or whatever; weigh everything they say against what the bible says and if it doesn't line up, the person is wrong not the bible. Ask the pastor/priest questions. Most importantly, be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. If the truth of the Bible isn't preached, hightail it out of there and keep searching. You'll know when you've found where you're supposed to be. [ mylordwon's advice column | Ask mylordwon A Question ]
Belladonna answered Sunday December 4 2005, 6:47 am: I was raised a Catholic. I went to a Catholic school, did all the religious ceremonies (communion, confirmation) I was brought up with it, and didn't care to question it until I was older.
I disagree with Catholic teaching. In fact, I dislike the Catholic church. I dislike religion in general. See, religion is built on man-made doctrines and traditions. Most Christian religions claim to follow the bible, and yet what they do is attach their own meanings to it, and twist it to suit them. A lot of religion is built of falsehoods that that particular religion has created - for example, Catholic priests are supposed to remain virgins their entire lives. The bible actually says the complete opposite of this. they say that a good priest needs a family. also, Catholics are against contraception yet this is NEVER mentioned in the bible. These are just examples.
My advice to you is to not join a religion. Religions place far too much emphasis on what you can't do, what's considered sinful, what will send you to hell, rather than your relationship with God. And often, they do the complete opposite of what Christ taught. Christ taught acceptance, love, and tolerance.. and yet many religious people go around criticizing homosexuals and badmouthing them! What you should do is perhaps join a bible study class, or even a youth group. Pray heaps, and develop your relationship with God. That is what important in the end. Live for Him, not for man-made religions. [ Belladonna's advice column | Ask Belladonna A Question ]

AskAndy answered Sunday December 4 2005, 1:54 am: I'm Pentecostal, which is pretty strict. It is (in my opinion) the most straight up Bible religion, because i've converted before. In some variations of the Pentacost religion, you cant cut your hair because samson never did, wear pants, or wear jewlery or makeup, but I'm not part of that, because it's never said to do that in the Bible. To be Pentecostal, you should attemt to read the whole Bible and follow it as best you can and not do anything it doesn't say, and you should trust in Him and believe in Him and be born again. Some can speak in tounges, wich is a language we cant understand but God can, and you learn to speak it by the Holy Spirit. [ AskAndy's advice column | Ask AskAndy A Question ]
cheburashka answered Sunday December 4 2005, 12:09 am: first of, you don't have to belong to any church, you can just believe in god and be non-denominational. but if you really want to be a part of one, just go to different churches and see for yourself how you feel about them, maybe ask your christian friends if they could take you to their churches sometime. talk to the ministers of those churches, and finally choose the church that feels most comfortable to you. i think a hands-on experience is the best way to go because if you just ask people, everyone'll tell you they love their religion.
but just to answer your question directly, i'm eastern orthodox, which isn't too popular among americans so i won't tell u about it, but you can ask me if you really wanna know. not all of my beliefs go along with what my church says, but it's ok because i like the atmosphere =) [ cheburashka's advice column | Ask cheburashka A Question ]

Kristen03 answered Saturday December 3 2005, 11:33 pm: I'm pentecostal. It's a fun religion to be. But I sometimes think there's too many restrictions. First off, we believe in God, and only God. No budha's or anything like that. You only worship God. Some of the beliefs are no drinking, no smoking, save sex till marriage, no cussing, no gambling. During the services people speak in "tongues". It's a language that only God knows. Not everyone has the privelege of being able to speak in tongues. You can only receive the gift by a lot of prayer to God. It's supposed to be said to God, and the devil can't understand what's being said. hope that's some help.
