typically, 1k is 1000...
but because computers are based on binary, the conversion is actually 1024 bytes per 1 kbyte.
Thus, 512k is 524288 bytes.
Same deal with hard drives: 1G is 1024M, which is 1024K, which is 1024 bytes.

My car keeps dying every once in a while. It happens usually when I brake to stop. I had the air filter changed, I got a new muffler, etc. What could be causing this and how do I stop it. I'm guessing something a little more critical is the issue - a line/hose or electrical part. I assure you that I am the last person you want looking under your hood, but I do know when you should have your car looked at by someone that knows what they're doing.
Wouldn't you rather pay a mechanic now, than have to pay insurance premiums and purchase a new car later, after this one causes a major wreck?

does anyone know a way to make your room look great .. but keep it afordable.. like any furniture that i could make myself but within a budget.. also, im 14 and i dont want anything too sofsticated but i don't want it looking like a little girls room either .. also if it helps im probably painting my room darker colors like a dark red or something (link)

People have already given some good ideas for finding new things to put into your room.
Don't forget that in addition to using new items - be they from yard sales or discount stores - that you can make huge differences by trying new arrangements of what you already have furniture wise. Try messing with lamps - new lamp shades can be cheap, and you could go so far as to buy plain white ones and decorate them yourself however you like. Just to be stupid, I put up a nylon net on the ceiling of my room, strung white christmas lights in it, and put various odd things up in the net - old stuffed animals from when I was little, album covers, GI Joe guys, plastic airplanes, and other assorted toys that I no longer played with. It was goofy, yet sort of cool. During college, I got a bunch of old pillows and used them as seat cushions on top of plastic milk crates that I used to hold all my books. If that's too low, you can put the crates up on wooden legs or something to give it more height (like at a desk).

I'm 16 years old and technically a virgin.

Exactly how late are you?
During times of stress, you can not only make your period late, you can totally skip it. Some girls have gone an entire year without due to mental and physical stress.
If you are really worried, get a pee-on-a-stick pregnancy test and give it a go. That should at least give you an answer and put you at ease.

talk to a doctor... for some, that can be "normal". I knew a girl who had her entire period in the course of one day with cramps so bad she threw up all day long. She usually just sat in the shower most of the day she had it because there was no use in her using a tampon or pad. She was later put on birth control - hormones - to control her period so that she didn't suffer like that any more. And what she went through was suffering. Excessive bleeding can be signs of other things - seriously, talk to a doctor.

Me and my friends fight 24/7....and now that summer is here....I HAVE NOTHING TO DO!! I mean...I loved going to school to see some, people I was good friends with....but then when I got home and got on AOL IM the gurl I fight with would be on...and start IMing me and yelling at me for nothing. If you are getting migraines, there are certain medications they can give you that are safe. Talk to either your OB/GYN or your regular physician. Otherwise, it is Tylenol, getting your eyes checked, and double-checking on your diet. Try drinking more water. (thinking of other things my wife has tried)

Ok well I'm in high school and like ALL the girls have bigger boobs than me! And I mean i dont want to go to school wearing a padded bra one day and having everyone notice me like a sore thumb! But I've heard if you messeged your boobs or whatever that they will grow. Discipline.
To say that you're "really good with what you eat" isn't saying much. You likely need a regimented dietary plan (note that I did not say "a diet") - and you should include room for commitment to exercise to help out the process. Weight and fitness together should be your goal. And not everyone is meant to be a stick figure, either. So do what you need to to, and be aware that you should not just strive to lose weight, but also strive to be happy with yourself and perhaps find a happy medium where you aren't having to fight genetic and metabolic factors.

so i guess this falls under the auspices of work and school relationships. i am a med student, so peace and quiet are nice things. pleasant surroundings also important for those few, precious moments at home. i moved into a GORGEOUS loft-style apt in a cool up-and-coming revitalizing-itself kinda neighborhood. my apt has a claw-foot tub, skylights that open to the fall new england air, stainless steel apps and the most gorgeous hardwoods you will ever see. problem is: my house was sold/bought during my lease, and the new owners are pushing a lot of construction through on the 1st fl. they claim it's nearly over, and i will be starting surgery soon (hence not at home as often to bothered by it, maybe..?). but i don't know whether to move or not. i found a new loft-style apt, and it has tons of charm, character, and the building is lovely and well-maintenanced. but it is not the same. the neighborhood is also not as cool, although, it is nice enough. i have to make a decision as i am trying to study for a major licensing exam, and i have allowed this to gnaw away at me. i am at the point of screaming or tearing my hair out with all the various stresses. any thoughts? much appreciated, sorry for the length. sincerest apologies. doubly so if this gets sent to you 2x.

Get an actual date from the landlords on the expected end of construction. If it doesn't seem too horrid, then I see no reason to move. It seems from the tone of your description that you really, really like it and moving would not be preferred, so... that's where I'd lean, too. If there's no real compelling reason to move, then don't.

i go to winnfield middle school and we have school uniforms and i started a petition to get rid of them. so i had alot of names until the principal caught me and said she didn't authorize it. how can i get rid of uniforms without having to get it authorized. i thought about gettin people to sign it off of school grounds.

there are pros and cons to school uniforms. Given the current state of some schools, uniforms can be a good thing.
Keep in mind that while you are school, you are subject to their rules, wether or not you like them. You are also not a legal adult. As such, you have no rights, per se. You are stuck doing what they decide. A petition signed by students would not accomplish anything. If you want change like that, it will have to come from the parents of the students. And I somehow doubt that's going to happen.
The uniform trend is on the rise, anyway.

the number is the size of your chest, not the size of your breasts. The letter is the cup size. Thus, if you go from 36A to 40A, that means you have gotten larger, while your breasts remained small.
You are only 13. Why the hell are you worrying about this. Your breasts will continue to grow for many years (as I have said several times before in other columns on the exact same topic).

Well, from what I get from this, they are simply saying that either you stop selling there, or you prove that you are a legal reseller of software. As you cannot do that, you are stuck with the first option - not selling things on there anymore.
While I cannot see the letter they have sent, you should not need to idemnify yourself, so long as you stop trying to sell there.
Keep in mind that selling pirated CD's is indeed not earning money... it is pretty much the legal definition of theft.
By ceasing activity on the sales site, you should be fine. Mind you, I'm indeed not a lawyer. They want the filled out form to either catch people who are lying, or to let in the legal resellers. By stopping outright, you become neither.
If you have copies of pirated games, you might consider destroying them, just in case this comes back to haunt you.
The other thing in your favor is that you're a minor. But as you are 17, you won't be one for long.

We live in a log cabin (150 yrs old) and we have a problem with carpenter bees eating at the wood. The do not eat at the logs but they do eat at the softer wood in the face boards around the house and at the wood that makes up the porch. The wood is unpainted. I am thinking of painting the wood with a latex paint. Would that help or cure the problem? Is there a pesticide I could put in the paint? Any ideas. (link)

I don't think paint is your answer. First off, I'd try to talk to a beekeeper - they know lots o' stuff about not just honeybees, but bees in general.
There are treatments you can get for lumber that would soak into the wood and make the bees go away. They often use this in pressure treated lumber for decking/outdoor lumber supplies... but the same treatment can be applied (sprayed and/or painted on) to lumber in general. You might look into this as well.
Obviously, there are loose pesticides that you could apply, but you run the risk of exposing yourself to them, which might be less desireable than the carpenter bees themselves.

Well, I have a reeeally embarassing problem.
My nipples are always erect, whether I'm turned on or not, and no matter the weather.
All the time.
Now, some guys think it's hot, especially when I wear a tighter shirt but I can't stand it.
I find it embarassing that you can notice, even when I wear a sweater.

Padded bras are likely the best answer, without having to stick something to your skin. This is also the least conspicuous option.
The other option is to wear tops that are not tight fitting.
