no school uniforms
i go to winnfield middle school and we have school uniforms and i started a petition to get rid of them. so i had alot of names until the principal caught me and said she didn't authorize it. how can i get rid of uniforms without having to get it authorized. i thought about gettin people to sign it off of school grounds.

I also go to a high school that has uniform. its better to get the parents on your side, instead of just the students, but the principal doesn't make the decision on uniform, the school board usually does. you might be able to get them to modify the uniform, but there is very little chance that you can get rid of it all together, believe me, its been tried.

Well, why do you want to get rid of the uniforms? Perhaps you merely want to change the uniforms? (e.g. colour, clothes worn). What would be allowed to replace these uniforms? Would there be a dress code set in place? If the petition is going to work in the first place, it's got to have realistic aims and alternatives -- it'll show that the students are taking the issue seriously. Perhaps?... suggest to the Student Representative Council (if your school has one or something similar) uniforms as a point of discussion. If the staff is aware of the number of people who don't want to wear uniforms, they might be prepared to consider a petition, once it's been brought to their attention in the right way, although to be honest, I doubt they would abolish uniforms completely.

I would devise a petition outside of school. I mean, your principal is probably the one that decided for you to wear uniforms. So, get everyone to sign it outside of school. I hope you get this worked out. My school requires us to wear uniforms, but we have a wide variety of choices. Like, maybe 15 different colors of Polos or Oxfords and a choice of skirts, kilts, or slacks in Denim, Navy, or Khaki. :-P Not that bad. Maybe you could compromise or something like that. Every year more and more schools are requiring school uniforms. Research shows that children have been more focused in classes in the schools with uniforms. It also can be cost efficient for parents, they don't to buy a big of wardrobe for their children. The chances of your school dropping the uniform police is slim to none.
Even if you wanted to do anything about it, what you are doing will result in nothing. What the students want means very little. And you can't just go to your school to complain. Most likely they can't do anything about. You need to go through the district, and talk to school officals. You also need valid reasons to have a policy changed. How will it improve school enviroment, and student moral, ext...
If your serious, and have real valid reasons to change the school uniform policy, start by writting a letter to the school distric with those reasons and ask if there is a chance you could at least disscuse the issue.

You can't every petition has to be authorized by the school if it is regarding a school policy. Even if you have government approval to have such a petition it doesn't mean that the school will change its rule. Every faculty member will probably agree with uniforms and even in a fair ruling they will say no even if the petition numbers are extremely high. But the way to fight this is with meetings on a regualr basis, and look at alternatives. Like uniforms are made for the fact it keeps everyone fair right? No maybe in their eyes. compare the prices for a pair of jeans, shirt, and compare the prices for the uniform costs, talk about the pros and the cons like uniforms create conformity but regualr clothes promotes individuality. well that is really too bad. you're not going to be staying at that school too long unless you're planning on living in the basement. so what should you care about uniforms? anyway, MFS is right. you can't accomplish anything with petitions.

there are pros and cons to school uniforms. Given the current state of some schools, uniforms can be a good thing.
Keep in mind that while you are school, you are subject to their rules, wether or not you like them. You are also not a legal adult. As such, you have no rights, per se. You are stuck doing what they decide. A petition signed by students would not accomplish anything. If you want change like that, it will have to come from the parents of the students. And I somehow doubt that's going to happen.
The uniform trend is on the rise, anyway.

your principle sounds like a real pain. Get your petition signed outside of school, but in the end it won't do much good. the odds of changing your principle's mind slim. Good thing you're only there for a couple of years, right?
