So, like, I'm this guy. And like, I do stuff...
Chemist, musician, artist, programmer, coach, husband, dad, uncle, etc.
So yeah.

anayone know lotions or something for when your hands become kinda sweaty... or if i should go to a doctor and get something..!!???!?!? (link)
|
Everyone's hands sweat to some extent. What's the big deal? Ever watch sports on TV? You see athletes using chalk or pine tar or something to add traction to their hands because everyone's hands sweat. It's normal. I mean, unless your hands are dripping sweat, you don't have anything to worry about. Generally, it is just a matter of relaxing your hands and waving them about a bit to dry them off anyway. What's the big deal?

Can moderator 2's delete questions that other moderator 2's have asked? thanks just wondering.. (link)
|
a question is a questions... who asked it does not make it special or anything, so... yes.
But, one would hope that a L2 mod would not be stupid enough to ask a question that would need deleted. I mean, that's one of the reasons they became a L2 mod in the first place.

ok well everyone knows how guys are trying to grow their hair all long n stuff. well- if a guy looks at u then does the little "swoosh" thingy with his hair and fixes it, could that be a sign that he thinks ur hot?
XoXoXo-Katie (link)
|
well, it probalby just means that his hair was messed up and he wanted to fix it, or his hair was falling in his eyes...
I say this because I do that all the time. It is likely just a habit the guy has developed - no hidden meanings.

I recently started a club at my school for left handed people and I'm having trouble coming up with things to do. Any suggestions? (link)
|
* write backwards
* create a list of famous and/or historic lefties
* go fencing
* make a list of tools that are geared towards right-handed people and try to find info on alternate tools that are either keyed for either hand or specifically for lefties
* beat up random right-handed people
* discuss the differences between the "average" left handed and right handed person
* left-handed shadow-puppet theater!

Umm... you're discussing real injuries here... the people here are not doctors. Talk to a physician or lisenced sports medicine practicioner. Getting ill-advised and uneducated responses from here could likely lead to you worsening your injuries.

Sorry it's long, but it's VERY important to me.
Okay, me and a bunch of friends were at this party, and there was alcohal (i'm a freshman in high school, 13 years old.) Well anyways, my boyfriend can drive, but he decided to leave his car there(it was a friends house.) and so we decided to split the cost for a taxi ride, about 10 of us squeezed into a taxi, well my REALLY good friend, didn't seem drunk, but we offered countless times for her to ride with us, she kept saying NO, so we gave her the walk test, and she did in a strait line. So since we couldn't talk her into it, she drove home, and ended up driving off a mountain, and she died. Well I felt so bad, and guilty, and I still do. So now I'm trying to stop drinking, after what happened, I decided I better stop. Well I was wondering, I want to get over the guilt, and stop drinking. One of my teachers knows that I drink, and I was talking, with an attitude saying it's not like you can die... and the next day my friend passes away. She is the only adult that I know, but I'd feel really akward talking about it to her, and I wouldn't know how to bring it up, neither of my parents know, and I don't want to upset them, I mean I'd get my butt whooped. So does anybody have any Ideas what I can do? None of her friends besides me want to talk about it, my boyfriend will change the subject each time we bring it up. She was sort of a loner, and she didn't go to my school, niether did my bf, and I met her through him.
So if anybody has any ideas, I'm open to everything EXCEPT telling my parents, or naybers!
Thanks in advance for any help, this is VERY hard for me, so please TRY to be sympathetic. (link)

I think the teacher you were able to talk to before is your best bet. Ask if they're alright with you confiding in them. The most important thing is to stick with your decision - don't let yourself become numb to the situation and start thinking you're immortal again. Remember your friend and don't let her have died in vain - keep her as a reminder of how irresponsibility and lack of judgement can impact you and those around you. If you were already able to talk to this teacher once before, hopefully you can do it again.
Your friends don't want to talk about it because they don't want to deal with reality - things like this ruin the thought that they are untouchable. I have many friends who went through this exact thing back when we were in high school. Some people realized what they needed to do, whereas others ran from it - they tried to hide, and kept on drinking and not wanting to take responsiblity for themselves. Most of them have ruined their lives, a few have finally started to dig themselves out. We lost a good friend, and the younger ones lost a mentor. He was 18 - he'd be 30 if he were still with us today.
No matter what you choose to do, I hope that you will think more about how people's actions can impact their lives - be thoughtful of yourself and of your friends.
Good luck.

I love my boyfriend so so so much but he's kinda insensitive and he's always busy or wont give me a reason why he doesn't want to meet up or anything. He talks more to my friend (who's in all his classes) and his ex girlfriend (she doesn't live near but he texts her all the time.) I don't want to break up with him even though I know he doesn't love me but I can't keep on crying over him every night..what should I do? (link)
|
You feel that he doesn't love you, he ignores you, and makes you feel like crap?
And yet you are convinced you love him?
Let's think about this for a minute...
Love is a two-way street, and you're not getting anything in return - that's not love.
As hard as it may seem, it is time to move on.

Ok I know this may sound wierd and all but the other day I was searching around in my parents room and i found strange things like handcuffs, whips, and wierd looking masks. I remember watching something on television about this sort of thing but im not sure if its really happening with my parents. Can somebody tell me what i should look out for. (link)

big whooop... people's parent's having kinky sex... what's the big deal?
|
Ok on wed I went to chruch and we had a lesson about sex bracelets but I didn't no any thing about them and I want to know as much as I can so I can tell my church about it I really want to know and if you know any thing about them tell me please. (link)
|
The "sex bracelet" thing is fake. People spread false information about meaningless bracelets and stupid people blew it waaay out of proportion and have tried to turn a fad into something "evil".

My nana gave me a real gold and pearl necklace for my 17th birthday. I was wondering is it safe to wear it in the shower or will ir ruin the pearls?? (link)
|
why would you want to wear it in the shower???
take it off!
don't risk destroying it.
Water can ruin it over time.

I went to the tanning bed sunday and all monday and tuesday I was itching terribly. I thought maybe i had a rash but then i thought well maybe its from the tanning bed. And then i kept getting this tingle..all day..it hurt soo bad. I didnt use ne lotion..wat was happening?
..i rate good.. (link)
|
You could have "sun poisoning"... even artificial light form tanning beds can cause it. If you do, well, good luck with worrying about tans, because the sun will forever cause a horrible itching rash over all exposed skin.
Talk to your doctor about it.

Hey, people, what are some signs of drug use in, oh, say, a high school student? You see, there is this guy who sits with me in Latin and is a generally friendly person, only he worries me at times. He dissapears fairly often, sometimes for several days, and then gets secretive about where he's been. His older brother takes a lot of heroin (among other things), so he would have connections, and he is always wearing long sleeves (even at the beginning of the year when it was a good 80+ degrees outside). He doesn't come off as a junkie; he's always perfectly coherent, semi-intelligent and sociable, but there always seems to be something...off about him. If it makes any difference at all, the whole family comes from Russia. (link)
|
From this (and us talking off-site about this), you have good reason to be suspicious of him. Even the "smart" ones get hooked on drugs - even the worst of drugs. Heroin is nasty shit - killed lots of people. There is a large number of russian mob types in the area which you live - the FBI has frequent raids on the ones who do black market computer software - no, I'm not making that up. Parma seems to have a large number of them.
Anyway... be cautious.

Ok, this question is for the girls out there!! Have you ever pierced your belly button by yourself? Like how did you do it I mean like all the steps from start to finish, even the small ones lol? Today, I want to pierce my belly button by myself but I'm afraid that I'm gonna do something wrong like piercing it too thin like I didn't use the skin. Can someone please tell me how you pierced your belly button by yourself? Thanks (link)
|
BAD IDEA!
This type of piercing is the easiest to screw up and to get infected. Do not do it yourself. Really, really bad idea.

When in doubt over the condition of an injury - ASK YOUR DOCTOR!
|
first and foremost, i wouldl ike to add one thing to moderators. delete me! i do not care! you may delete at will! i trust you in your power, and the rest of us lower ppl should! quit saying dont delete me ppl! theres only like 11 or 12 levels 2's! if your deleted, theres a reason! so with that in mind, delete to your hearts content. and please, please, from the bottom of my heart, delete the next question that says do not delete. and thank you everyone, for reading this warm, heartful thing on deleted questions. or something. hm, i wonder if this makes any sence, what so ever.

dude, that's the best recipe I've evAr read!

Apparently I'm not allowed to go off on more than one topic during one question, so I'll just mention a few random subjects and you can choose what to help me with.
Ok first, I received this postcard yesterday and I just dont understand it. There's a scan of it at http://pub.homelinux.net/postcard.jpg (339KB). So far I've found out that if the first letter of a word is a capital, that's a dash in morse code, and if it's not, that's a dot, with the punctuation used to separate letters. However, I'm told there's another message, can you help me?
Second, I know this person called MFS. MFS is often very spontaneous on internet forums, but he keeps a very normal, helpful and coherent advice column. Can you tell me of anything that might motivate him to do this?
And if you don't like either of the above questions, then have one more fitting your area of expertise. I have to do a chemistry investigation this year, counting for a third of my final mark. I'm in a class of 17-18 year olds (not one myself, but ignore that) and I'm really a mathematician so I like the logical and numerical side of chemistry. I get about 20 hours of practical time around January. I'm thinking of doing my investigation on electrochemical cells, possibly including whether they can be used to determine a solution's concentration. Given that information, would you think it a good topic? I can choose pretty much anything if you have a better suggestion.
If you've read this far I'm very impressed so thanks even if you don't choose to comment on any of the subjects
Jon (link)
|
well, I can't say that the Morse Code message makes a lot of sense, as I got "Jon, you may now feel uber smug. B" As for another message, well, I could easily over-interpret the choice of language used.. perhaps I'll stare at it some more later...
I know this person called MFS, too, since generally that is me. Spontaneous, you say? Sometimes, but oft it is a planned statement, wrought with meaning beneath the lunacy. I am here posting advice because, well, because it is part of my non-ending job of stalking spacefem.
Electrochemistry can and is used to determine concentrations of various substances. I was using a fluoride-specific electrode to detect fluoride levels in a solution. The electrode responds to F-, which it gives a mV signal, which can be correllated to a known concentration of a standard. Great fun. I have also used annodic stripping voltammetry to determine parts-per-trillion levels of heavy metals (except mercury) in a mercury amalgam. So yeah - your topic will not only work, but you should be able to find lots of info on it.

I don't know where to put this. Anyway, when I wash my hair I just use normal shampoo, whatever is in the shower. But my hair is sensitive, I have this scalp...thing and it makes my hair look really dirty really easily. If I use too much moose, gel, or spray, it looks oily and dirty and makes my scalp flake. Nasty, I know. But I was wondering if there are any shampoos or products I could use that aren't that strong, but would give my hair a really straight, sleek, shiny look without making my hair look greasy? Thanks for any help. (link)
|
If you are having sensitivities, you need something without dyes, fragrances, and other shit that can act as an allergen / sensitizer.
The safest bet is actually Johnson's Baby Shampoo - yes, the golden stuff advertised as "No More Tears" in fact, I have to use it. Almost all other shampoos were causing my head to break out and it was horrible. You might want to talk to a dermatologist about it. Odds are, you'll have to either stop using, or become highly selective of mousse, gels, and conditioners - as all those things can severely irritate your scalp. When the scalp it bad enough, it can cause your hair to fall out... something to keep in mind.

all girls get a lump type thing when there breast start growing right? (link)

breasts can get firm from time to time, but I cannot say that they necessarially get lumps when they grow. If you are concerned, don't hesitate to talk to a doctor.

is the national sales tax percentage rate 5% (link)
|
Indeed, there is not National Sales Tax. Sales Tax is levied by State, and within each state, an additional amount can be levied by counties. It is highly variable. I've been to places with it as low as 4.25% and as high as almost 9%.

Someone, somehow got into my column and changed all of my ratings for people. First of all how did they do this and how do i change my password? (link)
|
Indeed, to back up what jbdreamer said, the L2 mods can adjust ratings. However, we're only supposed to do it when it is truly necessary (like, if someone is handing out low ratings to be vindictive). You can still change the ratings back...
...but I will add as I always do - the ratings are only in place to try to promote people giving better advice. A lot of people don't use the system appropriately, handing out 5's for everything (bad), or not rating at all (also bad). Sadly, other than people like me pontificating about it constantly, there's little we can do about it until more people realize that this site isn't some sort of ratings game.
