Favourite quotes of the moment:
The children of Israel wandered the desert for 40 years - Even in biblical times men wouldn't ask for directions!
Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. whatever we do to the thread, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. - Chief Seattle.
We spend the first 12 months of a child's life teaching them to walk and talk. We spend the next 12 years telling them to sit down and shut up!
As you slide down the bannisters of life, may the splinters never be pointing the wrong way.
May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.
I've been very happily married since August 1980 to a wonderful man and have beautiful twin girls, now aged 31. Both are married to wonderful young men and one of our girls has recently made us grandparents to a beautiful, smart and feisty granddaughter. I studied geology with the Open University. I am retired from being a manager in a large UK based insurance company which I actually quite enjoyed. (How sad is that?). I love anything to do with the environment and wildlife and try to do my bit for preservation and conservation. I would like there to be a decent world for our grandchildren to inherit. I also have CFS so find life a bit of a challenge at times but always hope for better health in the future.
I have a deep interest in the spiritual and the paranormal worlds, having experienced several incidents myself, and have been involved in meditation groups and groups that (safely) explore the paranormal. There is more to this life than we would normally credit, so an open mind is always the best option. You're not so likely to get caught by surprise!
I have a deep fascination for anything to do with Ancient Egypt, as you can probably tell by my name. I have statues and paintings all around the house. As my hubby has a similar interest in Native Americans, we tend to have a lot of unusual wall decorations, like a tomahawk.
I love cars, especially vintage ones, but my all time favourite has to be the Bugatti Chiron, what a car!
I have had a lot to do with animals over the years. I have fostered many, helped to set up a wildlife charitable hospital and raised a diverse range of young animals from bats to fox cubs and different species of birds, even a baby deer! I have had great pleasure in sharing my life and home with a number of animals over the years, most of them rescues. I am currently sponsoring an Amur Tiger, they are such beautiful cats and desperately need help, there are so few of them left. I was lucky enough a couple of years ago to meet some Aye-Aye's and Livingstone's Bats, a truly wonderful experience. We now have three cats, Oliver and Mollie, a brother and sister, he's a ginger and she's a tortoiseshell and a black and white called Daisy. She arrived in a taxi and was left on our doorstep in a cat carrier with the message that 'they knew we loved cats and would be good to her'. She has settled down well and gets on wonderfully with the other two.
If you have a pet that is showing ANY signs of illness or distress, please, please, please take it to a vet! Even if finance is an issue, work that out later. It is cruel to leave an animal suffering for any reason. Most animals do not show signs of illness until they have been ill for some time, basic instinct tells them it is a display of vulnerability, and certain death in the wild. Their instincts have not caught up with domesticity.
I do feel that we should all treat others as we would wish to be treated. Bad karma comes back to haunt us.

What does the gray star mean on your columnists thing
The top rating is five stars and they are always visible. However, if you have only been rated enough to earn four stars, the last one will appear as grey, as it has yet to be filled in. Three stars would show as three dark ones and two greys, etc.
Hope that helps. :)
hey does anyone know what "E.P." is?
because on band myspaces, it says "buy the E.P. for $6..send money to..."
thanks.
E.P. is extended play, it's a bit longer than a single but not as long as an album. It might have 2 discs or just be a longer than normal single disc. :)

i have a classmate-- er a very close friend of mine-- he's a boy... in our first year in high school, he have this kind of girl (also our classmate) that he had crushed on. me, i just tease them when i could, this is still without malice for me. then, they become g/bf... i am happy for them at tjhat time. until we're now sophomore students and they're still relationshipped with each other. on their 10th month of relationship, i opened in our group friends (he's one of our group) that i don't like the past days' attitude of his gf. they all agreed and noticed the same thing. then he talked with his gf, with me and other involved friends. they're up to in a break-up. i really REALLY want to help them because i don't want their relationship be ruined because of my opening of the forum. imagine, 10 months relationship!
then, in talking with her bf, little by little my feelings arose for him. i dunno... before i sleep i make up a story like he's my bf and we both love each other... and like he talked to his gf with me (only the 3 of us) about their official break-up and that i'm now his new gf. but it's just in my dreams.
for now, he was urprised when she txted him "i luv u" on their 11th monsary, which, he said, he thought they were already just friends...
i love him... i think... what should i do?
thankzzz alot..
Let's take this in two parts.
The first part is the relationship with your friend and his girlfriend.
I would say that either your friend does not have strong convictions and allowed himself to be swayed by opinion, or he was already aware of certain problems with his girlfriend but didn't/couldn't admit them until the 'forum'. Now if the 'forum' made him aware that all his friends had a low opinion of this girl and he was concerned about her as well, the discussion could have just given him the push he needed to end it. However, if he really liked her and broke up because he felt his friends didn't, that would show that he lacks courage and possibly moral fibre.
Having said that, you are still quite young and relationships don't usually tend to last at that age for all sorts of reasons. One of the biggest being that you are still developing your own personalities, likes, dislikes, opinions etc. So you change, and if the other person doesn't change in the same way, you drift apart. If this is the case with your friend and the girl, there's really nothing you can do, it's between the two of them. Just support him if he needs it, and he will, at some point, find someone else.
Now, as to the second part, you're attracted to him and there's nothing wrong with that, unless you make a move he's either not ready for or wants. All you can do, again, is to be there for him, let him enjoy your company and let him see that life with you would be great. If you do say anything to him, you run the risk of ruining the friendship, it's very difficult to make the transition from friend to girlfriend. If you are in love, you should know without hesitation. Give it some time just to make sure.
You could talk to him about the text she sent, find out how he feels about it. Does he miss her? Would he want her back? Did he feel love for her, and if so, does he still? This would give you some insight into how and where he is with regard to the old relationship and the possiblity of forming a new one. You can only play it by ear for now. But, keep in mind that if he split with her because he felt his friends didn't like her, is he going to be like this again? Either with you or anything else going on his life. If he does lack courage in his convictions, and I'm not saying that this is the case, just something for you to think about, he could drift through life trying to do what others want because he can't break away and do his own thing. If this is the case and you can cope with a man like that, hang in there and see where it takes you, if not, forget him as a potential boyfriend and find someone else.
There's a lot of possiblities here but I hope I have given you some things to think about to help with your decision. I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do.
does any1 believe in telekenisis or having premitions or anything like that?...(sorry i probably spelt them both wrong)
Both are possibilities, no one has been able to either prove or disprove them up to this point. The mind is a complex thing and we know we only use a small portion.
I have had premonitions that have come true, although I do understand that there can be arguments about that.
Telekinesis (moving objects with the power of the mind) is a little harder to understand, but as far as I'm concerned the jury is still out.
Hope that helps.

well for school i had to do a report on Adolf Hitler and i had to find pictures of him on the internet and i found this picture: http://www.die3fingers.de/hitler.jpg is that a real picture? because when i saw it i was like woww.. haha. thanks
It's Hitlers' face super-imposed onto a models body. Hitler was a short, slightly chunky guy with terrible health problems. When he was younger, he was a bit on the weedy side, so he would never have looked like that.
Hope that helps.
Well, whenever I'm sitting down and get up, my eyes pretty much completely black out. I can barely see anything, it doesn't last very long, it goes away in like 10 seconds, but I'm wondering if this is normal or not? It's kind of scaring me, and I thought that maybe it was because I got up too fast, but that wasn't the problem because I tried getting up more slowly and my eyes still blacked out. I wear contacts, if that has anything to do with it...
Has this happened to anyone? Is this normal?
-Li'l SJV
I've had this for years and my doctor said it's because I have low blood pressure. Changing heights means my BP can't keep up with the sudden elevation.
It could also be something like anaemia. If you are that worried, get it checked by a doctor just to make sure there is nothing else going on.
Hope that helps and good luck.

My mom called me this morning to tell me that my dog was at the veterinary clinic all last night, and that he's dying of kidney failure or cancer. They've decided to put him to sleep today.
I feel really guilty because I haven't been home for a month, so I haven't seen my dog. I really want to be there to say goodbye to him, but I can't go back to my parents' house until this coming weekend.
Does anyone have any advice on how to get through this? I feel like I've lost my best friend.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss, it's really hard to lose a dear friend.
You need to give yourself permission to grieve, something that can be difficult, as there are a lot of people that will say, "it's only a dog"! Please don't feel guilty about not being there, you would have been if you could, but you have a life to live, and things can happen unexpectedly.
Try to celebrate his life, make a large photoframe or an album of all your favourite pictures of him, talk about him to family, friends, partner. They are probably feeling sad too.
It sounds as though you have a lot of love to give, so give yourself time, and then maybe think of giving another animal a wonderful home. If that's not possible at the moment, do it when you can.
I hope that helps and I wish you all the best for the future.
my cat came inside after being outside for a few hours. he was meowing a lot and so i held him and noticed something bloody in his mouth. one of his teeth is in the wrong spot. theres a row of many teeth on his lower jaw, then a tooth that has been moved/ripped to another area within his gum about 3 mm away. there is dry blood where the tooth used to be.
it happened late at night and the vet is closed tomorrow. what do we do? his tooth is only about the size of maybe 6-10 grains of sugar, but its not in the right spot and we dont know what to do.
It sounds like it could have been an impact injury. Have you checked him all over for any other tender places, especially around the front half and head area?
He does need to see a vet asap, he seems to be in some pain and he might have trouble eating. The day after tomorrow is really too long to wait in that condition. I don't know what happens where you are, but here the vets work on a rotation, where they take it turns to be the emergency vets. You find out which one is on duty by calling their number.
It might cost more to see an emergency vet but should be worth it to make your cat feel better. Also, left untreated, an injury like the one you have described stands a good chance of becoming infected, and if there is any other damage, leaving it could make him worse and cost more to put right.
Whatever you do, please don't be tempted to try and remove the tooth yourselves, or even touch it, you could make him a lot worse and upset him.
Hope that helps and good luck.

13/f i had surgery like a month ago because i had a cyst in my left ovary. i am feeling some pain and i really need help. i didnt tell my parents because i did that before i was gonna have surgery and they rushed me to the emergency room...so i dont wanna worry them, but should i... i guess what i'm asking for is some advice on health so if theres any doctors or nurses out there PLEASE help me!
Thanks in advance
Parents are there to do the worrying and to look out for you, it's in the job description. You really need to tell them you are in pain. It may be nothing but do you honestly want to take that risk? No one here is going to be able to tell you if there is something wrong, even if they are qualified, you need to be checked over in person by a doctor.
Please tell your parents you are in pain as soon as you can? After all, the sooner you tell them, the quicker it will be sorted out, then you can stop worrying and the pain can be dealt with.
Hope that helps and the best of luck.
15/f. where is the correct place to spray perfume? like if i buy a perfume that doesn't have a big spray to spray all over...where is the best place to spray it? neck? behind the ears? wrist? i've heard many things.
thanks!
Spraying on the pulse points and in the air to walk through is fine, but don't spray it on your throat area. Over the years, depending on your colouring, it can tinge that sensitive area a yellowish colour. Also, don't spray perfume onto coloured or permed hair as it can damage it.
Hope that helps.
OK, here's the deal- I hate wearing blush (so I never do) because my cheeks are naturally pink. A lot of people think that's good. OK, it is. One less makeup product I have to spend time and money on, LOL. But, the problem is- I think they're too pink... should I put brown blush over top to tone it down?
Main reason I ask this:
whenever I laugh too hard (or get embarrassed or hot) jmy cheeks turn really red and warm!!!! And when I excercise my entire face is red which looks realyl horrible because my upper lip doesn't turn red so I have like white spots on a red face.
ughhh....
What do I do to make my face and cheeks stop turning red?
would foundation cover it up?
Foundations with a green or yellow tint can help to cover redness. You will need to experiment to see which is the best for your skin and blend it in well.
Sephora stores seem to have a good range to choose from so, if there is one near to you, they should be able to advise you on products if you need assistance.
Hope that helps and good luck.
alright so lately.. i've been having like serious issues with my stomach and stuff. Does anybody know a website where like you could type in symptoms, and then they give you a possible list of what you have? Because I can't figure it out. And I just went to the doctor about 2 months ago for this.. but it showed up as nothing, but it just seems to be getting worse and worse.. but i'm too scared to ask my mom to take me back again. Especially since my family doesn't have a lot of money since my dad died.. so like i think that if i knew what it could possibly be, then i could like know that it's not horrible. So can somebody PLEASE help me find a website that can let you do that? Or like if somebody knows a bunch of medical stuff, let me know please!! thankssomuch!
I'm so sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. You've had a lot to deal with and if you try to be strong for everyone else, something is going to give.
If the doctor has given you the all clear on your symptoms, has the possibility of a psychosomatic illness been mentioned? This does NOT mean you are imagining it or going mad etc. These illnesses are very real, brought on by an overload of stress, grief, life changing events etc, and generally hit a persons most vulnerable area. They are as real as any 'normal' illness and can make you feel terrible. They just don't tend to show up on tests.
Now, I'm not saying you do have this, it's just one of the possibilities. You really do need to go back to your doctor, I understand about the money problem, but your mum needs to know, and it's up to her to make the decisions about finance, surely she wouldn't want you to suffer? Whether it is this or something else the doctor hasn't found, he will be the best person to see. There are a lot of illnesses out there that can share symptoms, it would be easy to misdiagnose on a website and worry yourself further.
I have included a couple of websites on this particular illness to give you an idea about what it is if you don't know, but I will repeat, it has to be your doctor that diagnoses what the problem is.
I hope this helps and that you feel better soon.

Does the vitamin B-12 Help you lose weight?
I have found a couple of websites for you on the benefits of B12, however, whilst it does seem to improve the metabolism, it does not appear to aid weight loss in any other way. It's just one of the very essential vitamins we should all have every day.

ok this might sound silly, but i really need a life changing event to becoma a good person, like ive been really bad this past year, ive stolen and lied SOOO MUCCCH! and ive done so many bad things its not even funny! i want to becoma a good person! but it kinda feels like i have no reason for it, like its stupid i know, the reason is that i wanna becoma a good person, but it still feels like.. come on, im getting stuff for free, ikm finding out who my crush likes, im benefeting from it, you know? so i feel like i need this big thing to happen so i can start turning my life around! because i've tried and it doesnt work! there's nothing really to motivate me.. so what should i do? its not like i cant control some big life changing event, so what can i do??
Why not use this question as your life changing moment?
You have told us how you feel and what you've been doing and that you'd like to change it. That is one of the biggest steps over with. Admitting you've made mistakes is always hard, and you've just done it to a few thousand people! That's big.
You could start the next stage by thinking if what you are about to do is something you would like if someone else did it, along the lines of 'do as you would be done by'.
The motivation can come from monitoring yourself on a regular basis and seeing if you notice a change. If you have, the chances are that others have too. Compare decisions you take in the future with what you would have done, it should give you a great feeling when you have done something good, a natural high.
You could also send me progress reports if you like and if you think it would help. Everyone needs a little backup occasionally.
Hope that helps and the best of luck to you.

Isn't annoying when people type in run-on sentences and don't punctuate? It makes the question/statement difficult to understand and read. I can understand when people sometimes misspell words; but I hate when people don't even attempt at making themselves seem somewhat intelligent. It is bothersome when people type a response or question like its a text message. No, I'm not an English teacher if you're wondering. I am a sixteen year old female that is in high school.
I agree, it is annoying and it can make the questions hard to read.
Having said that, 200 years ago, spellings and meanings were different to what is accepted as correct today. Different cultures can affect this, eg. US spelling on certain words is different to traditional English spellings. With the influx of text talk, 100 years from now, our descendants will have trouble reading our meanings, phrasing, spellings etc. if this trend continues. The world is changing much faster now than it ever has, not always in a good way. I don't know whether we could/should try to hold on to what we have now, or accept that times are changing and go with the flow. :)
The bar scene is beginning to make me sick.
I really wanted to try the whole "interweb dating" thing, so I did! I met someone from MySpace and he completely hated me. You might say "Oh Erica, you're clearly exaggerating."
No. If this guy had a machete, I wouldn't have a head.
I want to date. Any advice, oh hell, just any response whatsoever, would make me happy.
It does seem to be tough out there these days to find someone decent that isn't already with a partner.
How about joining some clubs so you are with people that share an interest with you? Or night school, educate and find a date! Or there is always charity work, you do some good and at the same time stand a chance of finding someone decent that believes in the things you do.
The only other thing I can think of is if any of your friends have friends that know some singles. However, I did hear somewhere that a supermarket is a good way of meeting that special someone.
I do believe that there is someone for everyone, you just need to make the opportunities to connect with them.
Hope that is of some help and good luck.
