about
I am 48 years old (yes that's old compared to some of you).
I have worked in nursing and/or healthcare management positions for 24 years. Primarily OB, Neonatal, Mental Health, Occupational Health and Geriatrics. In Jan 2008 I started my own business to board horses and do equine/human education. I am also a certified dog trainer.
I've been around the block so to speak and seem to be always helping others. I've been told that the reason people seek me out for advice is that I am approachable and caring. But on the same token even though I consider the person's feelings. I tell it like I see it. I've dealt with people in trouble with the law, dysfunctional families such as those with abuse & marriage problems. Not to mention problems with employees and employers.
I don't ever claim to know it all, and always keep an open mind.

i get these random pains all over my body. my mom says it may be arthritis, but i dont know!
and i had an injuryyy this year with surgery and im scared it wont get better.
Don't take the other post on carpal tunnel to heart..that's not valid, and growing pains aren't usually all over your body. Arthritis pain is usually in your joints or bones, and if you are young this would not just be a simple disorder. Pain is a signal that something is wrong so I believe that to get the right help you need, you should not hesitate to see a Doctor.
i was unpacking from a trip and sliced my finger on something. i didnt really notice it until i looked and saw it was bleeding. it doesnt even hurt, but part of my fingernail was sliced too. should i be worried? i washed it off and put a bandaid on it, but do you think its gonna be ok? i dont want to have to have like my fingernail removed or anything. im just concerned. thanks so much!
If the bleeding has stopped and the edges of the wound are approximated, it should be fine. Trim your fingernail down, and keep the nail and wound covered with a bandage w/antibiotic ointment for a few days and it will start to heal. If you have not had a tetanus injection in over 5 years,it's probably a good idea to get one w/in 24 hours of the injury.
Hey everybody. Well, I'm 14/f and African American (if that's of any help). I have like these scabs on my legs, and I really want to get rid of them, but everything that I've tried had failed. I really don't feel comfortable showing off my legs, but they're in really good shape and they look nice, and I really do want to show them. If anybody knows of any creams, etc. that help with scabs, discoloration of skin, or scars, and that can get my skin clear in the quickest time, I would really appreciate that! Thank you soooo much!
The question is, why do you have the scabs? Is it from shaving and ingrown hairs? Are they itchy? Your best bet is to see a dermatologist to get medicine that will clear them up quicker. Don't use hydrocortisone or other steroid creams, or hydroclorquin..which can lighten black skin. If you don't want to see the doc, you could try a newer cream called calmoseptic, I have seen pretty good results from that.
okay when im cold, i have to use the bathroom a lot!! like even if im not drinking water er anything, i have to go! does anyone know what this is?? okay & not to sound gross but when i do go, its like..clear basically. idk whats going on but it happens a lot. does this have to do with monthly stuff by any chance?? does anyone else have this??
thanks!!
If you don't have symptoms of a urinary tract infection then yes, it can be related to your Monthly cycle. Shortly before your period the uterus/and internal organs will swell a little (due to hormonal changes) this will put some pressure on your bladder causing you to have to go more. If you are cold during this time I believe it would be because of the hormonal changes also.
Can feeding ur cat grass help it? i heard it can.. what can it do to it?
Yes, a cat will eat grass to cough up hairballs or aid in digestion. The grass that is usually found in our yards isn't the best for cats though. You can buy special seeds at the pet store and grown your own.

um. this may sound strainge, but i am trying to raise a baby mouse that i saved from being fed to my freidns lizzard. as soon as i saw it i fell in love. i'm not sure how to raise it though so, if you could give me adivice? thanks so much!
Is it a tame mouse or a wild mouse? You can buy a cage and all the supplies including food at the pet store. Just remember, the Lizzard has to eat too!
Okay--you only rated a three, but you didn't say that it was so young that it's eyes weren't open yet. Until AFTER I answered the question. In that case you will have to get a very tiny eye dropper and some formula at the pet store and feed the baby about every hour or it will get dehydrated and probably die. It may not be impossible, but it is going to be very difficult to keep this young of a rodent alive without it's Mother.
Okay , well I asked earlier about the Guy Who I haven`t gotten over for 5-6 Months. Well his Bestfriend Called My bestfriend and he was begging for me to give an appology to the guy i Love , So I didn`t , Well my Friend said She dosen`t want your appology , but I did but she didn`t know , well anyway when me and him were together I mean it was just perfect he would say I am the Most amazingest & most beautifulest// perfectest girl he had ever met in his whole life , when i broke up with him he cried for hours , So did i & We had so much in common My family Knows his family & all. But I mean it really seems like hes the ONE and I always get the feelign that in acouple years me and him will End up together , well i Guess I dream too much and By the way I am 13 Do you think he is the one? & What do I do. Oh and me and him didn`t fight at all when we were together but after we broke up we would fight sometimes because he would get jealous of me with other guys adn i would get jealous of him with other girls , but now it`s like I dont know it seems like he has totally forgotton about me and we went out for a month or so , Do you think he thinks about me sometimes..? HELP! ♥ ♥
Sure he thinks about you, boy's never forget their first true love! As far as knowing if he is "the one" it's hard to tell. Sometimes people change as they mature. I always say it's best to "shop around" so you know what others are like!
Hello! I have liked this one guy for about 5 or 6 months! I broke up with him about 5 or 6 months ago! I really Love him Soo much! But we got in a fight! & Now we don`t talk anymore , and it took him a while to get over me , I am not sure if he is over me , I sure think he is , So many people thought we were perfect for eachother , But we just had to brake up over this stupid thing , I need help what do i do? Should i talk to him or wait for him to talk to me?? please help! Thanks so much!
ps. Great Advice! ♥
If the two of you fought a lot, or at least over 30% of the time you were together, It's probably best not to talk to him and try to move on.
There is usually a good reason for ending a relationship but sometimes we forget how serious that was after several months--and can only see the good things about the person. When really the bad outweigh the good.
If you got along most of the time and you really miss everything about him, why not call? If he tells you he doesn't want to see you, you will have no choice to accept that, but at least you won't be hanging by a thread forever. If he wants to see you, take things slow, just like you are starting over and try to put the past behind you.
im 14 and 5'5 and i weigh 98 pounds. ive been told i have a superhigh metabolism but i dont even exercise alot! but no matter how much i eat,(by the way..i eat ALOT but mostly late at night)..i dont seem to gain any weight! i wanna gain a little so i can have more a more filled out chest and my arms wont be so skinny..so is there any foods to eat or any plan to go on where i can gain muscle and weight? and i know working out will work but i wanna know about foods
Protien will help you gain muscle mass, this is your meat & dairy products. You can also try the nutrition shakes that are high in protien, but personally I don't think they taste very good. In my day (I was really skinny too) I drank carnation instant breakfast.Which added a few pounds.
I was logging on to my computer and my dad's screenname was on and i found some porn on his recent go-to sites. It made me really really mad. *&& said something about an escort [[yeah I know what that means]] it really hurts me. I want to confront him *&& my mom about it, but I know i'll get yelled at for my parents thinking i just went on his screenname at this time they wont believe me, because they recently grounded me from myspace. Please help me ! thank you
Giving your Dad the benefit of the doubt, sometimes pop ups create a trail that look like someone actually visited that site. If indeed he was looking, consider this: Some men love to look, and would never act on their fantasy. Men are visual creatures, while it may seem odd, or repulsive to some women, it's quite natural for a healthy male to look at porn.
I learned a lesson long ago, when we put our noses where they don't belong, we find out things that we don't want to know. If you weren't supposed to be there, I wouldn't tell them. You will only cause a lot of heartache for yourself, and your Mom.
Doctors recommend it but yet and still so many Americans turn they nose up at! Why do you think so?
I think there are many North Americans that accept breastfeeding as well. My opinion is that if a woman wants to breastfeed she should, and if she doesn't she shouldn't have to feel guilty for not doing so.
Those that don't want to, voice many reasons for not doing so. 1. Pumping at work is not always convienent. 2. They are modest and don't want to risk exposing their breasts in public. 3. It is easier for Dad or a sitter to feed the baby from a bottle (without pumping) 4. Some Moms may attempt to do so but they don't have a wonderful let down reflex. 5. Some babies especially premies have trouble suckling, and a breast is harder work therefore they burn more calories and don't gain weight as quickly, or even lose weight.
6. The Mom would have to watch her diet and not consume foods that may upset the baby's tummy.
We are in a country where some aren't concerned about spending money for formula--I guess...
My mom got me these new contacts: Acuvue Oasys with HYDRACLEAR plus. Well I was wondering about on the website, it said that up to 6 night consecutive wear. Does that mean that you can sleep with them in and not take them ou for up to 6 nights and its like alright to? And my mom got me 3 pair, and said that it was a year supply, but on the website it says two week replacement reccomended. Can they last 4 months each pair?
anything is greatly appreciated.
http://www.acuvue.com/ecpPro/assets/oasys_pig.pdf
It looks as if you should first wear them on a daily schedule and then be evaluated by your eye doctor. He can then prescribe an extended wear schedule which would mean with his approval you can wear them for 6 nights continiously.
From what I can read, if you remove them and clean them you do not have to replace them as often. If you wear them for an extended basis, then they are disposable...but it also says this depends the doctor's instructions.
Call the office and ask because it seems as if this can go either way and you need to be careful with your eyes.
i had contacts for roughly a year now and since the summer time i've been getting in a bad habiat of leaving my contacts in over night for sometimes 3-4 weeks in a row. then my eyes would become a lil uncomfortable and i would take the contacts out that night and put new ones in. towards the end of school my eye got bloodshot and i could barely open it because light would bother it very badly and i took care of my eye and rested and it eventually went away in a few days (about 4-5 days. so now its about 2months later and the same thing happened but in my other eye and its about the 3rd day..i can open my eyes and i can handle light alott easier now and its still bloodshot..it should go away in about 3 days but when i look out my eye it seems cloudyish. my question is if anyone had this before and if the cloudyness will go away in a few days just like the bloodshot should? i know i should see a doctor because no one should play games with their eyes but this same thing happened before and it healed fine and this time i notice cloudyness which i dont really remeber having the first time in the other eye.
Yes, I think you should see a Dr. If anything he/she can give you something to help your eye heal faster. Perhaps you could set an alarm to remember when it's time to remove your contacts?
ok well i babysit for 8 or more hours i get there at 8 and then leave around 2,3,4,5 and im soooo bored! i dont know what to do like they dont have T.V basically and there computer talk about old no internet im so bored of reading a book and my sister wont let me like listen to her ipod sometimes and im affraid to call ppl you can hardly hear ppl. so what do i do there. the kids dont do ne thing most of the time and well i need to get that ipod next week i can stand it! ne more!!!! oh ya and my b.f is like grounded form the computer so no Iming or w.e
Save your babysitting money for an I-pod that you can use at home. My feeling is if you are getting paid, you are there to do a job not have fun. Play with the kids, do crafts, read to them, take them for a walk. Do the dishes, clean the house, help with laundry...you get the idea.

This may sound strange, but it is all about dominance and not sex. He probably won't be sexually mature until around 6 months (considering the two breeds). Although there is controversy about neutering early, most vets that I know will not do the surgery until the pup is 6 months old. This is normal behavior for a dominate puppy, yes. My guess is, he is trying to express that he wishes to be charge. When there is no pack leader in the household, the dog will assume that roll automatically. You should curtail this behavior before it escalates into a more serious pack leader mentality. The link I posted will give you an idea of what I am talking about here. Good luck...and enjoy your puppy!
My yellow lab is a year old and seems to be agressive to new people who come to the house. She looks out the window at people or other dogs who walk by and growls and barks with hair raised on her back.
She has also tore up two expensive throw rugs within a week. We are not home at the time. We have to keep putting her back in her kennel when we leave.
I had a chocolate lab before and she was nothing like our yellow lab.
I have twin daughters, six, I'm afraid she might bite someone one day. She loves the girls but too agressive.
I have thought about giving her away.
The hackles raised and growling are signs of aggression, but the position of the tail and ears is important to know also. Puppies hardly ever show agression, and these symptoms do start at 1 year to 18 months old.
Tearing up the throw rug most likely is due to frustration--not agression and the fact that the dog is left alone, and does not get enough exercise. (Walks should be 45 minutes per day).
This dog is a hunting dog, and most likely has a high prey drive. Teach her to retrieve..give her appropiate things to chase. The reasons dogs bark and growl at people or animals walking by is, they are territorial..they growl and the people magically leave. What they do works...so they keep doing it.
Dogs bark/growl also out of fear...if the dog is fearful, harsh training methods will not work. The fear biters are usually unpredictable.
If the dog is dominate and not fearful, you do need to use strong training methods (not harsh) but strong. Make the dog know you are the pack leader and the behavior is unacceptable.
Dog behavior suddenly changes when a dog is sick or in pain..and they may not have other symptoms. Before anything else, take the dog to the vet.
As far as giving her away, that is up to you. I wouldn't want children to be at risk. I have daughter who was severely bitten in the face when she was seven by a neighbor's dog. Who also showed signs of aggression before that point.
By the way, I have a Golden that started behaving the same way, and when I started correcting him with a "No" and a pointed finger, he tried to "back talk" at first...but after persistance on my part he curtailed the behavior, now he rarely ever does this anymore. He will be a year old in August. I don't feel he is a threat to the kids however.
here at my school we have a table called the popular table and i sit at it .all my friends are popular i guess i am but there is another table its like a blank table and two hispanics sit at it . i try to invite them to sit with us but they always say know and they talk about my friends behind their backs the worst part is they cuss them out when their not around their the only hispanics in our homeroom all of us are white i dont know if their racist or not.we all pray before we eat .i decided to sit with them one day and i asked if they wanted to pray but they just cussed me out it makes us feel bad .they think were all dumb blond\brunettes.but they are teachers pets it kills me please help me.
They are probably defensive because of the things they percieve the "popular" kids will do to them. So instead of focusing on a group of friends, they decide to focus on school work. Perhaps the teachers like them for that reason. Or maybe the teachers know they are singled out and feel sorry for them. Probably by inviting them over, you are drawing attention to the fact that they are different, and sitting alone. It would be best to get to know them somewhere else other than the lunchroom. Once you get to know them, perhaps with some other friends, maybe they will feel more welcome and join you at lunch. I doubt if you are racist, it's just that you haven't been very diverse up to this point. Diversity takes practice, and maybe on their side too.
okay heres the thing
about 6 weeks ago i was having really bad cramping, pains in my breast, soar all over, felt really sick, then i started my period, ive been on my period for 6 years or so now, and never felt that kinda pain at all, for the last 6 week s though ive been on my period and it hasnt stopped, and the whole 6 weeks ive been having blood clots,NOW 6 weeks later i feel soo tired, and even sicker, everytime i stand up i feel like im going to faint, and i feel really dizzy and cramping. i just start crying for no reason, and i feel really stressed out, and ive called 5 differnt gynocologist's to see and the soonest i can get in is middle of august, Should i maybe go to the hospital? or just wait, i really dont know what to do.
Go to your family Dr or an urgent care clinic. You shouldn't wait until the middle of August for an appointment. If you have been bleeding for 6 weeks you have probably lost so much blood you might be anemic. As far of the cause of the prolonged bleeding there is no way to determine that without a medical exam.
hey , this is weird for me because im new but ive discovered thta i have pinworms and i would like to no if there is a way to treat them without going to a doctor or even tellin my parents because im kinda scared to how they will react so if there id a way could u please tell me ??
The best medicine for pinworms has to be prescribed by a Dr. Usually the whole family needs to be treated, so really you need to tell your parents. It's a common childhood ailment, just "buck up" and tell them...because I know you want to get better.

i recently got a small cut on the tip of my tounge. what would be the fastest way to heal it (putting air on it, ice on it, leaving it alone, etc.)??
Also i have braces, and they were just tightened. Is there any faster way to making them stop hurting so much?
Either rinse your mouth with warm salt water or use listerine. This will help the cut heal faster. As far as your braces, only time will make them stop hurting as much, but until then, you should ask your parents if you can take ibuprofen or tylenol.
