Question Posted Monday July 24 2006, 5:02 pm

i was unpacking from a trip and sliced my finger on something. i didnt really notice it until i looked and saw it was bleeding. it doesnt even hurt, but part of my fingernail was sliced too. should i be worried? i washed it off and put a bandaid on it, but do you think its gonna be ok? i dont want to have to have like my fingernail removed or anything. im just concerned. thanks so much!

If the bleeding has stopped and the edges of the wound are approximated, it should be fine. Trim your fingernail down, and keep the nail and wound covered with a bandage w/antibiotic ointment for a few days and it will start to heal. If you have not had a tetanus injection in over 5 years,it's probably a good idea to get one w/in 24 hours of the injury.

um i think it will be fine, unless you cut in on something that will give you tetanus

Depends on how bad the cut is. If it's a good, deep cut them you might want to take it to the doctor to see if you need stitches. But if it just looks like a normal slice then clean it up really well and just put a band aid on it.

And if it cut of part of your fingernail, once it starts to grow out, make sure you cut off anything that is like hanging out. Fingernails grow back, don't worry.
