Uncomfortable work shoes

Question Posted Tuesday July 10 2007, 12:10 pm

I work as a service clerk in a drugstore, usually in 8-hour shifts. During this time I am either running around stocking things, helping people find things, or ringing people up, so I'm obviously on my feet the entire time. I am not allowed to wear sneakers or open-toed shoes, but by the end of the day my feet are killing me. I've tried wearing flats, vans, heels, kitten heels, and boots but they all were painful. Anyone have (a) any suggestions for close-toed, comfy shoes, or (b) any ideas to stop the pain?

Hello there,

I didn't see this in the list of answers, and no list of comfortable shoes would be complete without mention of nursing shoes.

Find your local nursing supply store, or uniform shop that carries scrubs and such. Call around and find out who has the best selection to choose from IN STOCK where you can try them on.

Nurses very often pull 20-30 hour shifts, So it should be clear that without exceptionally comfortable shoes... all nurses would be dead from foot pain. ;-)

Trust me... anyone working in retail, or food service should find their way over to a pair of nursing shoes. You will NOT regret the time it takes you to find the right pair.

Good luck, and I wish you some happy feet soon. :-)

I can help you with b)!

I worked in retail when I was in high school, and no womens' dress shoes were comfortable enough. What I started doing is wearing the Dr. Scholl's gel insoles. Those things are the best! I'd walk for 8 hours and hardly feel a thing. Plus, they massage your feet!

I used to work 12-16 hour shifts standing on concrete floors just like you stand on.

A) Like those before me said- Crocs. If you can't wear those, then you need to find a shoe with a thick, comfortable sole and good arch support.

Flats, heels, boots, and Vans, are nice and all, but they don't have the cushion or arch support you definitely need when working at a job like that.
Unless you are flat footed, lack of arch support can lead to fallen arches.

B) While you are at work in the drug store, pick up a bag of Epsom Salts. Make a warm foot bath with the salts and soak a spell. You would not believe the relief Epsom Salts can give to your sore, tired dogs.

Alright, you've got to invest in these shoes right here called "Shoes for Crews". They're non-slip and they don't hurt your feet. They also come in various styles, and you can order them online!

hope this helps-

She's right, Crocs are very comfortable, and they are actually popular. And they come in lots of colors. It is nurses who made them popular because they are on their feet all day.
They sell real crocs on EBay for $15.00. I don't know if the copy cats are just as comfortable. But give them a try

hm.. you know those croc shoes? to me, they look like gardening shoes, but that dosen't matter, aha. anyways, my friend's mom, who is a nurse, has said they are VERY comfortable. as weird as they may look, they'll get you through the day, they're cheap, and no one will see your feet anyways :P

you can get them at payless/walmart/basically anywhere!

hope i've helped
